Yes, we're not going to be able to tell if anything he said was true or not. Her clothing (and make up and jewellery) should answer the question of whether or not she went to bed, because I doubt he would have undressed her and reclothed her in nightwear.

But I agree, that was a slip up on his part, he started to tell the truth and suddenly realized he was getting himself in trouble. Poor Shan'nan and her kids, punished for all time for putting their faith and affection in that coward.

I am generally pretty good at keeping my emotions in check with all theses horrible cases. I don’t know what it is, but there is something about Cece that tugs at my emotions like I have never felt before with a victim on Webslueths. Just typing this make me feel like I am choking back tears. She was just so full of joy and had so much spunk. I hate CW so much.

That's a very good point about the phone. I have always thought he killed the kids before she got home and then killed her as soon as she arrived in order to prevent her from checking in on the kids and risking confrontation. But I have always wondered how the phone ended up there, since he apparently did not take the time to stage a scene. Maybe she was fast asleep by 2:30, and shortly after he killed her and then proceeded to kill the children. He would have had plenty of time to get them loaded in the car by 5:15, or around that time. But it does make sense that he would have hidden the phone before he murdered her, just in case. Jmo
I agree with you that CW killed the girls first and then killed SW as soon she arrived home. As far as the phone, I believe it ended up on the sofa when CW killed her. I base this on the evidence and on what I've read about SW. First, NAU dropped SW off, and from all that I've read, I have to believe she didn't see CW. He didn't greet them. Her description, if I'm correct, was that she watched SW get out of the car and go into the house and then she (NUA) left. Next, inside the house, SW left her purse, suitcase, keys, and shoes by the door. That was out character! She was about being clean and organized and would have carried everything upstairs to the bedroom. Even if she was tired. I believe she set everything down, took off her shoes to be quiet, and rushed upstairs to see her children, out of concern. Her cell phone would have been in her hand, because to her, it was a necessary appendage like her arms and legs. Once she was upstairs, the nightmare began. I believe CW wanted her to see the dead children. A macabra " see what you made me do!" moment. In that moment he attacked and they ended up on the sofa, with her probably face down, and the phone under the pillows/cushions. When it was over, CW sat and thought about what he had done and probably ordered, in his mind, what he needed to do next. How long he sat and what he felt and thought is left to conjecture, at least until the trial. (autopsy results may answer some questions) Meanwhile, his schedule had been thrown off by the late flight. He probably could have gone out at 11:30 or even midnight without arousing suspicion (again, in his mind), to take care of "business", but 3 or 4 A.M. would be hard to explain. So, he had to wait until time to go to work. What did he do? A nap? I don't know. He probably did carry SW into the bedroom and placed her on the bed, on top of the fitted sheet. That might explain his "she had barely got into bed" statement. And, there probably was some last minute preparation, before he loaded the truck and left at 5:15 A.M. Upstairs, the phone was lying somewhere on the sofa, waiting to be discovered. I wonder if he thought about where it was when he called and texted her? Or, when he was racing to the house to meet NUA and LE? I wonder if LE asked him to call the phone so they could listen for ringing? Anyway, IMHO, that is how the phone ended up on the sofa.

Through myriad ways he has told us so, so I believe him that he is a coward, and would never give her an ultimatum that he was leaving to actually do something on his own. I maintain that (IMO) the AP told him she wanted out, on Friday night, because yet again she was seeing the family coming together, and that he even had to have the kids over what could have been a clandestine AP weekend. Of course he didn't want to end the marriage completely, ie honestly. He just wanted them gone, but without losing the assets.
I also think the AP played into the timing, but I don’t think she broke up with him yet. I think she gave him a final ultimatim that weekend. He probably told her they had split up when SW was in NC and the AP believed him, but had doubts when she realized SW and the girls returned back to the house. No doubt she was angry that he lied to her, which he probably had done before and I can see her telling him it was over unless he ended the marraige for good that weekend.

"if" they met that Friday night, I can imagine how the AP felt if he was talking about how he had to be back to get the kids from the babysitter, etc. Maybe it was just over the phone, hey AP, I can't meet with you because of the kids. A real damper on an outside romance. Whether she gave him an ultimatum, or she cut it off, I can imagine the anger would build in him and it would be logical for a coward like him to blame his family. I wonder if his phone logs will show calls to the AP on Monday. (no I don't think she had anything to do with the murders, just wondering how he would present the news to her that OMG the whole family ran away through the construction area in back. I'm free!) IMO

Do we know that the AP is single?

I personally think if it was fully pre-planned, his easiest route would be to murder them all in their sleep and not risk backlash and things going wrong if SW fought back while she was awake. That said, he might have had a lot of confidence in his physical ability to over power her. While it would be very risky to murder the children before she got home (what if her flight was re-routed at the last minute? what if she noticed when she got home or fought back at the door?), he very well might have done it this way. It will be interesting to see what if any wounds SW sustained other than strangling. If he had a little bit of a conscience, IMO, he would have slipped all three a heavy dose of a sleep agent before they went to bed in a drink, IMO. The whole thing still boggles my mind that these men in their quest to be free do not see that they will be the primary suspect from the get go and should at the very least have a solid alibi rather than be the last person seen with their families.

The most mindboggling tidbit from his (voluntary) media appearances is when he had the audacity, or stupidity, to suggest she might have left via the construction in back. How could he have assumed anyone would buy that?

Well said. I have given a lot of thought to him using a sedative, as you suggest, and he may very well have done so with the girls. I think the flight delays really messed up his plans, and probably his mind! Suddenly things had changed and he had adjust. I keep thinking about no one seeing the kids after the birthday party, and him grilling alone in the back yard, and I find it very ominous. Anyway, good post.

Did you notice that both times he said he didn't want "to put anything out there" as to how it could have happened, he immediately proceeded to throw something out there. I was hoping the reporter would follow this particular one up with "but the door was locked in back..." I think, while still confident in his abilities to bamboozle everyone, he was thrown off his game by not being able to finish setting the scene, which I personally believe was to put their things in her car and make it "vanish." It's why I believe he felt the need to tell NUA they were getting a separation off the bat...he still thought he had time to set the stage for this, IMO. Then, wonderful NUA insisted on not going away and calling the police.

I think the phone records will be telling for whether SW asked to talk to the girls or see them before they went to sleep that night on that front. He may very well have become annoyed with the kids, possibly on a sugar high or crash after the birthday party, and just did it then. I'm inclined to give him more credit to wait and not take such a risky chance, but perhaps I'm giving too much credit :)

Best, do you remember which video that was? I wouldn't mind seeing it again to get the exact words. But don't spend any time, just wondering if you know which appearance it was.

I think the digital footprint will be telling. I know it’ll be a long time before we see them though.

Sure! Here you go....luckily it is the first I just took a look at again - see about 5:10 in the video:

That's what I thought. Thanks. I feel sorry for the poor woman.

I'll wait to learn more about what happened before I decide how I feel about her, but I think you are a bigger person than I am to be willing to feel sympathy for her.
