I worked for a refinery for 3 years. During that time, we had a pipeline rupture, and hot oil was spilling onto the roads between the refinery Units. Said oil was so hot that an employee's tires were melted as she was driving through this.

Does anyone know the average temperature of the oil?

Refineries are different than storage tanks in the field. Trucks come along out there to pump it and transport it to the refinery. So it could be sun-powered heat. I don’t know if crude needs to be maintained at a minimum temperature once it’s extracted from the earth. I’ll try to find out.

Just the media requests in the court docs. And to me, IMO, the judge is saying media is ok.

Ok. I see an order for the 8-16 hearings and an order explaining the process whereby the media can seek future "expanded coverage" )not sure what that exactly means).

But the court granted the request for 8-16 and found the defense objections not enough to prevent it. So yeah. I believe it said "control swabs" elsewhere on the body. So that doesn't imply anything else, just a standard control, I would assume? But I'm new to this.

Re the DNA swabs. The neck is the main site and elsewhere is for control. So mainly they are looking for his/someone else’s dna on the kids necks. The other part of the body is control (as in their own DNA). Atleast this is how I understood it. This case just has me devastated. I have two littles and I cannot even imagine. ESP. Her family’s sadness. I really hope the prosecutors bring everything they got.

'It does not seem clear that the coroner, pathologist, or anyone working on behalf of the prosecution team in autopsy plan to take swabs of the necks of the two decedent children,' his lawyer Megan Ring said in a two-page filing to a court in Weld County, Colorado.

She specifically asked for 'several swabs of the neck' to be taken, along with control swabs on other parts of the girls' bodies.

I wonder how the friend and police got inside the house? Our daughter's ex phoned police for a well-check but police only came to the front door. When she didn't answer they left and came back later. Her neighbor told her about it.

I'm a dispatcher, and police doing a welfare check will break in when they feel there is a reason and an immediate concern. Likely with your daughter's ex they didn't find any reason to break in, with Shanann they likely did have a reason to break in (if that's what happened). It's just case by case.

What that reason was, we just don't know. There's so much we don't know yet.

Also, what's happening today? Ruling on unsealing the charging affidavits? I know the defense has sought that and it will be granted for them. I hope that means the rest of us will be able to see them too.

I'm baffled by the Motion for Protective Order. Throughout the document, the Defendant repeatedly is referred to as "her." Very strange to see it repeated.

Well. Thereby lies a tale. He had a lot of tales. I don't remember the exact sequence but at one point he claimed his wife had killed one or all of the children and he snapped and killed her. He was apprehended in Mexico where he was impersonating a NYT (I think, maybe WSJ?) reporter who had been disgraced and eventually, in prison, became pen pals with the reporter,who wrote a book.

The DNA swabs on the girls' necks made me wonder if CW had something like that in mind as a defense. Would there be a reason to ask for the neck specifically otherwise? Is there a better chance of just generally finding DNA there? I understand the control swabs, but the neck specifically makes me curious. Or does it mean nothing out of the ordinary?

I think they are absolutely wanting to see whose DNA is there.

There have been false confessions. Like Kevin Fox. DNA exonerated him. After several months in jail awaiting trial.

I just don't think their motion in any way indicates the defendant told them, "I didn't kill the kids! She did!"

It is an order with respect to last week's hearings but it definitely indicates where the court is going to go with respect to future media involvement IMO.

The public has a deep interest in seeing justice unfold here.
