I don;t think we can state definitively how mom was killed. There is suggestion the kids were strangled, by the defense motion that specifies their necks. But the gunshot/bullet thing could just be standard evidence collection. It could be exactly as you've said, though. Has the affidavit been released yet?

The method of deaths has not yet been formally disclosed by LE

The defense comment about bullets, etc is boilerplate request and does not at all mean that firearms were involved. It's a very normal legal request

“On a Friday Facebook post, Shanann Watts brother Frankie Rzucek wrote that he always looked up to his sister and that she and his nieces "meant the absolute world to me."

"I just thank God that I got to spend the last (six) weeks loving, laughing, and enjoying what precious time I had with my sister and nieces that I loved with every inch of my soul," Rzucek wrote. "I wish I could go back in time and be there to keep you safe from harm. Sorry uncle couldn't save you. Absolutely heartbroken."“

Community mourns family; coroner IDs Shanann Watts and daughters

This breaks my heart. My daughter and sons are so close and I cannot imagine how much hurt they would experience knowing they could not protect their sister and now nephew. If I didn't die from the heartbreak of losing my daughter, I think they heartbreak of her brothers would finish me off. I pray he finds some peace somehow, some way.

On or about August 13, 2018, Christopher Lee Watts with the intent to terminate unlawfully the pregnancy of a woman, namely: Shanann Watts, feloniously and unlawfully terminated the pregnancy of the woman. Further, the woman died as a result of the unlawful termination of the pregnancy, in violation of 18-3.5-103(1),(2), C.R.S

She died as a result of him trying to terminate the pregnancy? Did he punch her in the stomach and she bled to death? But count 1 also says he deliberately killed her. Maybe this is a way to hold him accountable for the unborn baby's death?
He attempted to abort her???? No freaking way. Nope! Nope! Nope! Just can’t go there!

Colorado father charged with 5 counts of murder in deaths of wife, daughters — NBC News

This article states “The causes of death weren't made public, but prosecutors alleged that Shanann Watts died "as a result of the unlawful termination of her pregnancy."

Not sure if this has been discussed yet but, wth??
Was she alive when he “terminated” her pregnancy? Maybe he cut him out? My gosh that sounds horrible, but I’m not sure what other way to put it...

I hope he pleads out, and goes away. A trial, is not needed here. Unless he goes with some bizarre stuff...which won't negate lying to LEO, killing SW, covering her body, and the gruesome disposal of the children.

I wonder if they would offer him a plea.
Personally I want him to face trial.

Interesting, that no other lesser charges were included, meaning zero maneuvering room. Usually several other counts are added as well. In this case, it was pretty concise. This guy is going down. The reasonable doubt went out the window, given where the bodies were placed. I suppose he can go with temporary insanity, difficult not to agree that anyone sane would do what he did, but the element of trying to cover it up pretty much precludes that.

Probably because he confessed.

Is the charge for unwanted termination of a pregnancy because in the St of CO he cannot be charged with murder for the unborn child? This might be the maximum charge they can go for with the unborn child. This entire topic was hugely debated in CO over the past few years in the legislature. Any atty's out there that can clear this up?
The baby isn't considered human until he takes his first breath out of the womb. I will go find link

Why Colorado law means Chris Watts won't be charged in the death of his unborn child

Colorado law is very clear, and that's what has to be applied in (the Frederick) case," former Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett said. "Unless a child is born and lives independently from the mother and is then killed due to something that happens after the child is born alive, you cannot bring a murder charge

Five counts murder for three human beings and one count illegal termination of pregnancy.
Thanks. Do you have to go to the code to understand the differences in the murder charges to understand what each of the 5 counts mean?

The statement is NOT what it seems

It's a way of stating CO law that allows them to charge for Nico 's death because his mother was killed.

I think the "unlawful termination of pregnancy" means that her pregnancy was terminated due to her death....

They have it. It's not been used in a while.
Interesting. I thought they had to vote to bring it back. Will check again to see if any of the meetings last week were documented online.

It does seem to say that Shannan died as a result of Chris terminating the pregnancy. This is very odd and disturbing, if true.
I understood during the press conference that it was worded that way to take advantage of a law that went into effect two years ago. It doesn't mean that Shanann died as a result of terminating her pregnancy.

I was wondering the same thing. What's the deal with his side of the family? What happened there?
