Right. He immediately added, "I'll leave it at that," to control the conversation, not leaving any opportunity to ask further questions about it. Because there was no conversation. And some insisted he was not controlling... I think he was,and it was just very subtle. Control comes in many forms. Sometimes all it takes is a look, like he was looking at her during the dancing video. Very creepy. Jmo

Which video? I don't think I saw. I wonder if it's on the media thread.

He was totally controlling and manipulative.

Sometimes manipulators are able to pretend they are helpless and not in control which is all part of their game.

I think CW was excellent at controlling what he wanted to control.
The rest he left to his murdered pregnant wife so she would be seen as the "controller" and he could keep up the pretense of being the poor slapped husband, who couldn't catch a break.
All part of his tactics. Rotten lout!
MOO.
Totally agree. By virtue of the type of people who follow these cases, the majority of us are aware that sociopaths choose their victims and SW fit the profile of the type of people they choose. They are so smooth at it that many people in relationships with them don't even realize it. As is typical, even with those that don't murder their victims, when they are done with people, they will still figuratively walk over their grave as they move onto the next chosen person. When they are done, they are done and because they have no real sense of attachment to others in the way most people do they move forward without a concern about who was harmed on their way to what they wanted next.

Lol! I had to google skullduggery. It is now one of my favorite words, fun to say lol ;)
Howdy... Please tell us that you steamed (not ironed) the suit, and made court appointment on time!! Pins and needles...

Yep, pretty much the equivalent of dry-eyed "crying"!

If I had not known the topic of the interview and watched it muted, I would never have known this was a man in an apparently distressing situation.
Yep, he looked more like a concerned neighbor instead of a man whose pregnant wife and two children were missing! Imo

The videos are linked in the first post of every thread. I think the one you're looking for is Denver7.

He was fully aware that when he killing her the baby would die too. He just wanted rid of them all.
Thanks, how I interpreted it too. I had someone on another site saying that was wrong, that he did something horrible to her in an effort to end the pregnancy,I hate to spell it out, that resulted in her death.

Hello! Very kind of you to ask. I managed to get the wrinkles out with the steam setting on the iron lol! I did make it. It was a daunting experience but their motion was denied. Now they will subpoena my deposition and they got the pretrial conference pushed all the way until January. I honestly think the strategy is for me to be worn down.
It's surprising to me that I have to submit to a deposition to the defense, I wasn't expecting that. I thought my recorded statement to the detectives would be it unless it went to trial. And it's surprising to me the tactics used and the amount of time that this could press on. Never thought I'd be in this position, but glad I have a tough prosecutor.

ETA: I didn't know this is how the legal system works for victims of crimes. I thought that it was cut and dry, the police do their work, charges are filed then plea or trial. It's generally not that simple it seems.

Which is why I am so grateful this case got resolved so quickly. I really am. It could have dragged on for so long, and would have been hell for the families and friends.

Thank you! That's the dancing video? I've seen the porch interviews. Gag! They make me feel ill.

Edited for typos. As always!

I think it's posted in the last or second to last thread before it was shut down. Mommy Pommy can probably find it in a few seconds! No pressure, of course. But if you haven't seen it it's worth checking out. It just shows CW staring at her, while talking or pretending to be engaged in conversation with others.

Oh, ok, thanks. I wasn't sure how to find it.

Ohhhhh, no - I thought you were looking for the video with, "I'll leave it at that." Sorry, SweetPeas!

This may be the dancing one, I'm not sure which one you were referring to: Shanann Watts

That's funny because I wanted to ask too, and was going to suggest the steam setting on iron or just hanging it in the bathroom with hot shower running, but it was at 6:30 this morning and I figured it was too late.

I don't think I've seen this video. I sure would like to if anyone knows where to find it. I'm still lousy at navigating this sight

Do you have an appointment to be prepped for the depo? If not, request one. If you've done Interrogatories, study your reponses to help yourself keep the facts the same. Keep your verbal responses as concise as possible. Answer the question and stop, don't feel like you need to fill silence with more words/explanation. It's unnecessary as long as you've answered their question. Don't be afraid to ask to have the question repeated if you're unsure what exactly you're supposed to answer. Counsel will be there to stop them if necessary if they overstep. Yes, they want to wear you down but don't let them!

His description of Bella and Celeste and their personalities in relation to himself and Shanann has always sat wrong with me, and it being the mention of Celeste that set him off in tears kind of solidified my feelings. I'm not sure if I can describe this well, but I'm going to try.

He said:

'Celeste, she’s just a bubble of energy, she’s called rampage because she’s like… she’s always… it’s… she’s got two speeds - go or she’s sleeping and she’s always a troublemaker, she’s always the one jumping off things, you know, and she’s yelling at you and all kind of things. Bella she’s the more calm, cautious, mothering type and she’s… she’s more like me, she’s more calm, she’s… but Celeste has definitely got her mom’s personality where she’s always hung-ho ready to go.'

The things he initially says about Celeste sound... less than complimentary, and when you add that at the end he says she has her mom's personality, it sounds like victim blaming. She's a troublemaker, she's yelling and all kind of things. 'She's always gung ho and ready to go' definitely sounds like a quality Celeste has received from Shanann... but I think the 'rampage', the troublemaker and the yelling... are all CW.

Bella being the more calm, the more mothering type, more like HIM? Nope. I'm not buying it. I do not and cannot buy that he was the mother in this family.

I think the descriptions of the girls may be fairly accurate (but more in the sense of feisty vs. structured), but he is distributing their qualities in a manner that makes him look like the good guy. Don't look at CW for this, for he is the voice of reason, the calm in a storm. Pfft.

He used 63 words to describe Celeste. He used 18 to describe Bella. For what that's worth.

Rampage vs. Mothering.

If we had to pick, who do you think he identified with more strongly?

Hi Kadoober, great analysis.
I pointed this out before, but I think he stole his words from Shanann and others and that is why they sound so bizarre-- they are not his original words/thoughts. He seemed to catch himself on the "motherly like me" part and realize that didn't sound right, so he repeated the word calm. Shanann uses a similar description for Bella and herself in the caption of this video:

"One of my favorite things about Bella is she is very kind hearted! She's motherly like me! Celeste is scared of the beginning of Moana and Bella makes her feel safe! I rewatched this video and I get emotional every time! I love my girls and I'm so blessed to be their mom! (Don't mind the mess..) #Blessed #Mygirls"

Shanann Watts

Shanann also liked to affectionately call her kids names-- she called Cece "a monster" in this video: Shanann Watts
But IMO it was said with love and affection in her voice. I would not be surprised if SW called CeCe "Rampage" once as a joke or in a moment when CeCe was being a typical toddler and CW thought that was somehow a sweet thing to say about his missing 3 year old. It's as if he has no sense of context for his statements about the girls.
JMO.

My previous comment about this with some others discussing it is here: Found Deceased - CO - Shanann Watts (34), Celeste"Cece" (3) and Bella (4), Frederick, 13 Aug 2018 *Arrest* #41

Thank you! The prosecutor has assured me she will be there to run interference if necessary. I'm just surprised the defense gets access to a victim prior to a trial. I mean this is a cut and dry case with extremely serious charges, a 3rd party who gave police video of a portion of the crime and called 911, and evidence as nauseum. My only thoughts could be they're seeing how strong I am in determining what type of plea they will try to get. It's just a surprising process to me. Thank you so much for your very, very helpful advice.

Does anyone know if it's typical for defense to be able to subpoena for depositions? I know in my case the witnesses have all been subpoenaed too. I'm wondering if this means witnesses in Shanann's case, like NUA, would have had to be subjected to defense interrogation prior to trial.

ETA Are the prosecutors in cases given access to depose witnesses or participants under oath prior to a trial? For instance, I don't think that CW's AP wouldn't have been made to sit for deposition.
Hopefully Gitana1 or another attorney can chime in.

I have a security camera that works similar to the ring doorbell. An app on my phone notifies me if it detects motion or a person at the door. I have the option of speaking to the person at the door through the app. Mine also records, so I can watch or save clips later.

Welcome Sixcats.:):):)
Your first post.
So you don't have to pretend, to be away, and not answer your door when unwanted folk are at your door, as you see them.
Guess your six cats will warn you when these unwanted folk ring the doorbell also.:D:D:D

Thank you! I hadn't seen this video. He looked so so... detached, and his eye is on Shanann. I want to watch it again but it creeps me out looking at him. I am so grateful Shanann had this fun with her friends though.

Yes, I felt immediately that he really hated the younger child, his contempt was visible, and when we found out where he dumped them, that confirmed it to me. I would bet a month's salary that Celeste was the first to die.
How insightful, Kadoober, I never noticed that before, but you are so right. It makes me feel sick just thinking that a parent could actually hate his child enough to be able to kill them. I imagine that is a reflection of his own self hatred. Now that there will be no trial, and I’m happy for the families that there won’t be, but I do wonder about the AP situation and CW’s childhood. I cannot begin to even imagine the fear and horror that SW felt that morning.
