I'm sorry. I didn't think this would turn into a discussion about the story. And yes, I forgot that it was a crossbow. Stories run together for me. I was less interested in his side than in how SHE felt afterwards. Someone asked how his mother might feel and if she would visit him. That was the only media reference I had to offer for such a scenario.
And she definitely was torn... at times compassionate and other times could not hide her disdain.

If one parent has been over indulgent and the other more realistic then they will continue that way, as with the Anthonys. Cindy continues to make excuses for Casey, visits her, probably subsidizes her ($) and George has come to know the truth and has cut her out of his life.

My opinion is that CW’s mother will visit him, but it’s just an opinion. I guess time will tell.

Thank you. I appreciate it. Our medical bills became more than our mortgage. It sucked. This is actually a bit of relief now.

I can see how outside stressors could have affected CW's mental health. Life is hard, bad things happen. But if such things made you depressed then IMO it would be far more likely to hurt yourself than to hurt the people around you. Christian Longo was in the same position financially and took out his family because he supposedly didn't want them to "suffer" just because he couldn't pay the bills. It's a cowardly and, IMO, stupid thing to do. Even if CW blamed SW for what had happened (as a way of shirking personal responsibility, not because she truly did anything wrong), it wouldn't explain why he turned on his children. I don't want to be a broken record, but his actions showed depravity. There's not any "evidence" that could be brought up right now that would make me understand how he could hurt his kids and then treat their little bodies in the manner in which he treated them. As parents, most of us have a biological need to protect our children. What he did IMO goes against nature.

I think that CW is a killer rarely seen and with more than feeling of sadness believe that does indeed exist.

I was with an older woman for some 14 years and raised her children through military, college and marriage. Taught the little one how to read. I loved them.

She brought with her immense debt. She outspended my income. I filed bankruptcy around 16 years ago after I left her. It gave me a fresh start from a failed relationship. It didn't make me want to kill her when I finally left her when the last little one was sent off to live life. It didn't make me a psycho murderer. I can't even imagine!

I was angry to be left with the debt. But there IS NOTHING that would have driven me to murder her. Or her babies. And this was a woman who cheated on me while I packed lunches. The idea of her dying anyway but peacefully makes me sick.

But I am a normal human being.

My point is that these disappointments, these failures in our relationships don't drive us to kill. We regroup, move on, and live healthy lives. And don't strangle and dump the ones who love us. This is not a normal reaction to the stressors of life.

You used the word depraved. So very accurate.

And you are going to be ok. Life puts you where you are sometimes. And you team up, pull together, bankruptcy if necessary, and say let's try this again.

Something he didn't do. Sorry for the long post. You are going to be ok. jmo

I think you're on to something here with this train of thought. I expect someone will write an in depth book about CW, similar to the books about Scott Peterson and one of my favorite true crime books, "Shattered", about David Temple. If the author researches CW's life thoroughly, I imagine they will uncover some interesting mother-son and father-son family dynamics, based on what we know about the majority of family annihilators.

I think that that is par for the course, isn't it? All convicted criminals can appeal the length of sentence as being too harsh.
I didn't think you could if you made a plea deal. Maybe some can and some can't.

Thank you... saving for tomorrow. Honestly this case exhausts me even though I consider myself rational, reasonable and strong. This is the first case I have followed here and the more details I know the more it just seriously breaks my heart. I'm not dumb, but I really didn't know evil like this existed.
The good thing is that Dieter had a happy ending - he is with SW's brother and he has some fun furry siblings now for company.

Sin

Somebody write a book!
Please don't. We've seen enough of this. Making money off of these tragic deaths seems unwarranted.

Maybe write some essays available for free for true academic study. jmo

You could be right, but why would that clause be in there?

Hi Kadoober, great analysis.
I pointed this out before, but I think he stole his words from Shanann and others and that is why they sound so bizarre-- they are not his original words/thoughts. He seemed to catch himself on the "motherly like me" part and realize that didn't sound right, so he repeated the word calm. Shanann uses a similar description for Bella and herself in the caption of this video:

"One of my favorite things about Bella is she is very kind hearted! She's motherly like me! Celeste is scared of the beginning of Moana and Bella makes her feel safe! I rewatched this video and I get emotional every time! I love my girls and I'm so blessed to be their mom! (Don't mind the mess..) #Blessed #Mygirls"

Shanann Watts

Shanann also liked to affectionately call her kids names-- she called Cece "a monster" in this video: Shanann Watts
But IMO it was said with love and affection in her voice. I would not be surprised if SW called CeCe "Rampage" once as a joke or in a moment when CeCe was being a typical toddler and CW thought that was somehow a sweet thing to say about his missing 3 year old. It's as if he has no sense of context for his statements about the girls.
JMO.

My previous comment about this with some others discussing it is here: Found Deceased - CO - Shanann Watts (34), Celeste"Cece" (3) and Bella (4), Frederick, 13 Aug 2018 *Arrest* #41

I think you're hitting the nail smack on the head here.

The media makes money every time one of us clicks on a link to an article about CW or any other crime. They don’t report on these terrible crimes out of altruism. More clicks equals more money.

There are ethical true crime authors who are extremely victim friendly. Hopefully one of them will write a thoughtful and well researched book.

He was exceptionally good at technical things, which is not to be diminished, but I am not sure that he was bright outside of that.
He played chess, too. Must have had some logical and strategic thinking. Maybe he was gifted technically, but not linguistically?

Thank you so much for sharing this.

ETA hopefully let's find a way to share these authors. And thanks for this thread and forum.

I can play chess too, thanks to a father who taught me, but I am not exceptionally bright or even very good at chess.

I haven't seen anything on chess. Link?

That's what I wondered. I know some plea deals make you give up any appeals. From that statement I'm guessing all do not.

I would feel conflicted, for sure, but I also think that his mother will visit. I am interested to see if he gets transferred to a federal facility near NC.

Read it more closely. It says something to the effect of under certain circumstances. Which @gitana1 explained. He's not getting out. Ever. jmo
