Sorry if this has been already addressed, but I'm way behind.
Were the autopsies sealed because the cod for the girls differed from the monster's confession?

The DA said they were sealed due to the tox reports primarily. That people would erroneously infer Shanann was drunk.

DA said Shannan Watts knew Chris Watts was displaying a lot of suspicious behavior and confronted him about credit card charges in North Denver while she was on vacation. It's unclear if she expressed any knowledge of the affair the morning she was killed.

9NEWS Denver on Twitter
It would make sense to me if she did at least suspect an affair, and I think she definitely discussed taking the girls back to NC with her to live there without her carousing and no-longer-caring husband. She knew something was brewing, I'm convinced of it. We know he was not as smart as he thought he was, so there's no telling what she may have overheard or saw that gave her a good reason to know something was happening with that slimeball.

Autopsy reports for Shanann, Bella, Celeste show cruelty of killings, body disposal in Christopher Watts case
Autopsy reports released Monday afternoon reveal in the greatest detail so far what, exactly, Christopher Watts pleaded guilty to, and why he'll serve the rest of his life in prison.

The reports for Watts' wife, Shanann Watts, 34; Bella Watts, 4; and Celeste Watts, 3; show Watts killed his family intimately, by strangling Shanann and smothering his two daughters even while Bella fought back, biting her tongue and cheeks in the process.

When it was all over, Watts stuffed Bella's 38-pound body through an 8-inch hole in an oil tank, scraping her arms and legs in the process. She was found three days later, in a pink, pajama-style top featuring hearts and butterflies.

Her sister, Celeste, was found in a pink top and diaper in another oil tank, according to the report.

Shanann had paper bags around each of her hands. Her baby was covered in dirt and sand.

The girls, Bella and Celeste, sitting for days in oil tanks containing unprocessed crude oil, had the stuff in their throats and stomachs and lungs.

CW put paper bags around her hands? Why?
Had her baby already extracted from the womb when he buried SW or did this happen whilst in the shallow grave?

OMG! I am off. Can’t take anymore. Peace to all.

Here is the "airport picture". Posted on 8/12/18 in the evening.

Another hard picture to look at because in a few hours she was flying home to her death.

Yup. Those podcasters would have had a field day with that, and they had a field day with a lot less.

NUA, if you are reading this just please know you are my hero. The true definition of the best friend ever.

I also wonder. Apparently he just wanted to snuff out his old life to start anew. Without considering the consequences.
But what happens when the new woman wants a commitment, or god forbid a baby? Or, into her 30s and 40s just doesn’t feel like going out, partying and sleeping together 4-5 nights per week? Is he going to strangle and dump her too?

I assume, sorry have not read all the posts on this thread yet, that the paper bags on SW's hands on arrival at the autopsy were placed there by LE told to try to preserve evidence that may be on them. That her finger nails were not torn tells me she was unable to fight at all. That Bella's were torn makes me think she did. I wonder if the heartless 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 put on gloves and long sleeves when he did this unspeakable act.

I disagree strongly. No father, in my mind, who did NOT plan to murder his children could have carried on as easily and casually as CW did in the aftermath of these murders. Period. IMO
I agree too! I am just looking at different angles with an overwhelmed brain from hearing so much new evidence today.

It's a bit of a "coward" way to kill her is what I was thinking. You don't have to see your victim struggle. I see your point too, though. I just really, really hoped that we would have some closure (not that we deserve anything) on the order in which they likely died. I just can't imagine the extra horror for Shanann to have seen her babies dead when she got home.
I don't know that we will ever know the order. I have long thought he killed the girls hours before she got home, before the flight was delayed, and I still think that. I could also see him being a dick to her when she got home and telling her not to wake the girls up to tell them hi. If they were killed before her, I don't think she knew. It really does seem like she was in bed when she was killed and unaware of anything until it was too late.

Yes. There was a missing persons case in Utah where they also found alcohol in the post mortem tox report and everyone went nuts. He was a mormon and supposedly didn't drink so people went crazy. I would have expected no less. Props to the DA for this.

Any thoughts of CW being a single dad was most likely ruined that weekend. I'm imagining him very frustrated about having to take care of the girls by himself, especially after not seeing them for weeks and not be able to connect with his other woman.

I don't mean to criticize or second guess DA Rourke, but I wish they would have released them anyway with an explanation for that. It might have avoided a lot of the victim blaming and other horrendous rumors. JMO

The paper bags on the hands is a customary crime scene investigation procedure to protect any possible evidence on the hands (eg. if she happened to scratch her assailant). Coffin birth, or the expelling of a dead foetus from the body, happens due to decomposition - it would not have happened immediately after death, especially since there was no trauma to the abdomen.

Thankfully, he will not have that opportunity.

Chris Watts' Daughter 'Fought Back for Her Life' as He Smothered Her: 'Imagine the Horror'
The killings of Bella and Celeste Watts and their mother, Shan’ann Watts, were not quick and they were far from painless, Colorado prosecutors revealed Monday at the sentencing for their killer, family patriarch Chris Watts.

Addressing the court at Chris’ Monday morning sentencing hearing for the murders, Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke said the killings were violent almost beyond comprehension.

“There are no words to adequately describe the unimaginable tragedy that brings us before this court today,” he told the judge.

“I’m not even going to try to express the horror, the pain or the suffering the defendant has caused to these families and to this community and to all who were part of this investigation,” Rourke continued.

Daughters Bella and Celeste were smothered, Rourke said. Celeste, like her mother, showed no external injuries. But Bella fought for her life. Rourke said her body showed that she bit her tongue as she was killed.

“She fought back for her life as her father smothered her,” he said. He told the judge: “Imagine the horror in Bella’s mind as her father took her last breaths away.”

First post here. I couldn't read along any longer! With the news brought out today that CW texted a colleague to indicate he'd do the site visit the next day, a new possible scenario came to mind. Maybe his plan all along was to kill SW only. He may have even dug the grave prior to that night. Maybe there is some truth to the idea floating around that Bella woke up and became a witness, so CW "had" to kill her too. That could potentially explain Bella putting up a struggle (can anyone chime in if that makes sense or not?). She was awake. Then, he killed Celeste, who was sleeping and never quite woke up enough to struggle. MOO

I think your post was very close to what happened that night. Bella fought, and little Celeste was asleep and she was near-dead (please excuse) by the time she woke up. WTH was he thinking?

And another thing,

Welcome to Websleuths, lakelette !!

Was it hot that night? The girls and SW all being in tops but not pants, just underwear, sounds like pretty typical summer nightwear to me.

  • #1,220
So none of them had pants on? Only tops and underwear?
Yep. I did find that a tad strange for the babies.... but then again it was August.
