Well, like, I've just, like, been to, like, speech school, and I, like, have, like, learned about, like, over-, like, use, of the, like, word "like," and also what is called "up-speech" where the speaker is unsure of her/him self and end her/his declarative statement with an up-rise of the last few words of the sentence. It shows insecurity and, often, immaturity. I was, like, already familiar with those.Ok, I had never heard of "vocal fry" until right now and googled it. I wanted to say she sounded like a smoker. That would be why.
Edited to add: Google shows about 6 articles on vocal fry in New Zealand media sites in the last twelve hours. I must live under a rock!
I had never heard the term "vocal fry" until just now reading about it, so I went to vocal fry class and learned what that was. I have heard it, and I further learned that using it is not good for your vocal chords, and it is irritating to most people. It is often used to also mask insecurity or a try to sound intellectual or very wealthy. Interesting online teeny-tiny class ala google.
And, like, that's all.
