A source familiar with Watts tells PEOPLE that he has finally taken responsibility for his actions. “He has nothing to do but think,” says the source. “He thinks about what he did every day. He is tormented by his past and the mistakes he made.”

The source tells PEOPLE that Watts has a long road ahead of him. “He’s left alone with his thoughts for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Every day. Birthdays. Holidays. Special occasions. He’s there in jail, in his cell, thinking about what happened. He’s in his own private hell.”

Watts has since blamed the affair -- and, in so many words, Kessinger -- with putting him under a spell of sorts.

In July, a woman named Anna -- who speaks regularly with Watts in prison -- appeared in an episode of HLN's Lies, Crimes & Video, saying that, "Chris feels that if the affair would have never happened and [Nicole Kessinger] would have never came into his life, that the murders would never have happened.

"He thinks that she had this strong control over him, that he describes like a ‘leash’ that he wasn’t able to get off of or get away from," she continued, "and he thinks that that has played a role in what happened."

(Of course, to a lot of people who hear this, it sounds like he's more or less trying to pass the blame.)

Anna needs to quit casting her pearls before swine. He snuffed his family of his own free will, because he wanted to be done with them.

People like Watts are the real reason why death penalty was invented....I mean why wasting money for decades to keep alive this axxhole?
Life without parole is useless. Only the capital punishment can be useful here.
But Colorado has death penalty only "in the books"....

My understanding is that to get the death penalty he would have had to have been found guilty thru a trial. We are all fortunate that he decided for once in his life to take responsibility, to confess and plead guilty, IMO. According to him, he told his lawyers in early September 2018, that he had murdered the kids too. By November he had his lawyers craft the plea deal, and by February he let the details flow as to how he did it. I don't buy all of his details (ie SW praying while he murdered her), but I do think it was precipitated by a series of ultimatums over the weekend. I think he's happy as a clam in prison, he, in effect, has a new woman in the form of prison rules to take all the responsibility for day to day decisions, as he has always been too hollow to step up to the plate as a man.

No we're not fortunate. He just confess and plead guilty to avoid the death penalty. That's a real problem. Laws shouldn't allow somebody to naively avoid the capital punishment like that...it's deplorable.
Anyways, as I already said, Colorado has death penalty only in its books. There are only 3 criminals sentenced to death...ridiculous...
Even if you're sentenced to death in Colorado you won't be executed (you just stay in your jail until you die...) o_O

Relieve prison overcrowding, exercise the Death Penalty.

I will always believe his decision to plead guilty was less to do with swerving the death penalty, more that he was far too much of a coward to sit through a trial, see the autopsy photos, have NK throw him under the bus - imagine her as a witness. At trial, he would have to really face up to what he had done...oh, not to mention his ‘they think I’m a good guy’ persona would be shot to pieces (of course, it already was - to everyone but him). He is despicable.

Chris is incapable of any type of accountability. I don’t usually like blaming parents because I believe that even the best parents can have kids who turn out horrible, because I also believe that even the worst parents can have kids who turn out great. But Chris Watts’ parents clearly coddled and excused him for everything and taught him to blame everyone else for his actions.

He spent the first few months of the aftermath of his crime blaming Shanann for her own death. Now it’s clear that the morally challenged women who correspond with him have helped him see how this is really NK’s fault!

But none of it is Chris’ fault!

Yes, Shanann had a strong personality and she probably did control him to a large degree, but I know men like Chris and they like that, because they don’t like thinking for themselves and it also relieves them of having to be responsible for their decisions.

He avoided discussing any of the issues he had with Shanann and their marriage. I’m pretty sure the reason she went away for the summer was partly a trial separation or at least an attempt at diffusing the tension in their marriage. (Which there’s nothing wrong with...sometimes space and distance help a lot.)

But instead of Chris actually doing some soul searching, he immediately started looking for something outside himself to make him happy...like he always has. And NK happened to be there. He immediately went overboard obsessing over her because he seriously has no ability for emotional regulation.

He loved living that single life all summer and it was going to end. He could see no way out. He didn’t have the balls to actually end the marriage and he didn’t want to give up the relationship with NK. But he knew reality was about to hit hard, because even if Shanann ended the marriage (saving him the actual effort and courage of making the decision), he was still going to have to deal with financial responsibilities and parenting duties, all of which were going to ruin the relationship with NK no matter what.

I’m don’t think he premeditated the scenario itself, but I think he had spent a lot of time thinking about how he could have the life he wanted if Shanann and the kids were gone. Sure, he loved the girls, but he still couldn’t have the relationship with NK that he wanted if he had to be a dad.

I think when Shanann got home, she confronted him and he blew up. All the conflicting emotions he was holding inside for who knows how long just exploded and he strangled her. Once he killed her, I think that’s when he came up with the lame idea of making it seem like she had taken the girls and disappeared after their “emotional conversation” that morning. (Even that is evidence of his complete detachment. Whatever “conversation” they had that morning wasn’t just “emotional”, it was explosive.)

This part is why I don’t think he had any help planning: because if he had, it would have been done better. He wasn’t smart enough to come up with a plan he could get away with and carry it out. Another example of being unable to think for himself.

So first it was Shanann’s fault, then he subtly blamed Bella (“if she just hadn’t found Shanann dead, maybe he wouldn’t have had to kill the girls, too”), and now it’s NK.

But it’s never Chris.

Oddly according to CW,and company basically every woman in CW's pathetic life is the Devil except of course Mommy Dearest, and by Proxy Sister Watts, and just when you think they Might have enough decency to let Shannan,Cece,Bella, and Nico rest in peace the Pea Soup brigade spews more vile lies, and uses the Bible, and God's name to do it. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

One year after the murders of Shanann, Bella and Celeste Watts, their Frederick house sits empty, waiting for a public auction in September.

[...]

The five-bedroom, four-bathroom house, built in 2013, will go up for auction at 10 a.m. Sept. 18 in Greeley, according to Weld County Trustee records. The home is in default, records show.

The house went into default in December, and JPMorgan Chase Bank, the lender, has 12 months to sell it, Weld County Public Trustee Suzie Velasquez said. If the house went into bankruptcy, the timeline to sell would be extended.

Christopher Watts's home to be sold after he murdered family

The Weld County Public Trustee posted a notice on Dec. 17, 2018, that the house at 2825 Saratoga Trail will be sold off to the highest bidder on April 17 for failure to pay principal and interest.

According to the filing, Watts owes $349,938.09 on the five-bedroom, four-bath home. Documents show the Watts bought the house in 2013 for $392,709.

ETA: auction date revised to Sept 18, 2019.

I don't understand what the hold up on the sale of the Watts house is. There should be a default judgement since CW has not responded to any of the filings. Whoever is ruling over this needs to get a backbone, and be done with it.

I don’t understand this, if and when the house is sold, WHY would chris get anything, doesn’t the bank own the property when there is a foreclosure? I think if there is a profit Shanann’s family should receive it without filing any claims from chris.

I don't understand why his parents didn't arrange for the sale if they were not upside down (it reads like there's some equity in it assuming it has retained some value), they're potentially walking away from some money that could go towards any number of things - including CW's commissary or travel costs to see him and that sort of carpola.
