We need so much DV education.

Most DV happens behind closed door.

Frequently both parties locked in DV keep it the secret. The victimizer, for obvious reasons. The victim, for many complicated reasons. Believes it was an accident, wants to believe it won't happen again. Internalizes the reason it happened (I shouldn't have made him mad...), doesn't want others to form a poor opinion of the victimizer, isn't ready to leave, etc, etc, etc.

When Barry says " the only time" his weird reflex clipped her, he apologized and held her.

Boy, there's a pattern we've never seen before.

Classic DV.

It happened, I said sorry, now it's on you to forgive me. 7 x 70... and it was only an accident. I didn't do it on purpose. Listen, you know I love you.

And round and round it goes.

It is TRAGIC that so many people believe that it's not DV if it's not constant. It's precisely because it's not usually constant that it's so effective -- many women don't, won't or can't leave -- because it's not constant.

That damaged door frame was Barry's door to. I wonder if LE asked him aviut it directly. How'd that happen, Barry? Team of wild ox?

Poor Suzanne. She was only just learning for herself that control is not love....

He said he love her to death.

Or controlled her to it.

Such a sad ending for such a beautiful light.

DV/ Abuse-- More Awareness

Hubby was taken to ER this past weekend.

ER restrooms now have a red sticker ( a huge roll of them) by the TP holder.
On the other side of TP holder is a note/message taped to the wall.
"If you are afraid for your life, or have been hit, abused, cannot talk openly out of fear, put a red sticker on the bottom of urine example cup.""

I was so happy to see this and said so to the nurses and admins at the desk.

The next day, after hubby was admitted to a room night before, I went up to see him and spend the day.
He informed me that nurses and doctors searched his entire body for bruises and signs of abuse the night before and he said they looked "every where" in places he was surprised at.
This is now a COMMON PRACTICE of any new patient admitted to the hospital.
Hidden places **

AS most of us here on WS know, we realize that abusers do not always leave signs of abuse openly, such as face, arms, so apparently now doctors, hospitals and LE now look everywhere on a person.

I said, well, good.. I am so glad they are being proactive with patients.

Then the daytime nurse came in and she follows true crime as we had Dateline on the TV in his room.
She gave me a few names of some wonderful local speakers who speak out and about on child abuse, DV , etc but also.... how to spot clues on Sex trafficking.
The nurse then told me about the different signs they are trained to look for DV and Trafficking.

Well, I was impressed, to say the least, that they are more aware of this awful violence that can happen to someone.

I am trying to see if I can get their hospital speaker to speak in public as she seems to be a spokesperson in the medical field and for medical employees to go to her seminars, training, etc only.
I would love her to be open to speaking in the public also and would willingly pay/provide venue for this.

anywhoo... didnt mean to be so long winded, but it irks me to no end that DV cannot be brought up in Suzanne's case as the more awareness there is now about it, and the number of people no longer alive due to it, well, this is just all sorts of jacked up that it cannot be shown in court for justice for Suzanne.

OK..off my soap box.
Just wanting to share that I was glad of more awareness, even if it's NOT allowed in the Judges courtroom regarding Suzanne and IMO, it should be. !!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing this, hope your hubby is doing well.
Like you, I am SO glad that medical professionals realize that victims aren’t always able to ask for help. I’m glad that first responders are being trained to recognize that. I’m hoping it saves some lives.

I hadn’t heard about the red stickers, but I did just read about some doctor offices/clinics placing red Sharpies in addition to the usual black Sharpies in the specimen collection room with a notice to use the red one when putting your name on the label if you feel unsafe or need help.

I just read this article last week about increased awareness about strangulation and it’s quite chilling. I did not know that in most cases there are no outward marks or signs, swelling can take up to 36 hours. So they are training officers what to look for.. clearing of throat, etc.

A person who has been strangled is 750 times more likely to be subsequently killed by their partner.

Like you said, abusers don’t always leave signs.

Spartygirl, sorry about your husband being in ER. I hope he is better. What State are you in?

IMO MOO

Remember when BM asked about immunity, he said, “And what about immunity? Can you give me immunity if I sit and just open up my life to you?” (Page 78 AA) Plus I believe he told LS in an interview that (paraphrasing) ‘people just don’t know the truth’.

These statements could allude to supporting another woman or family; secret life and thus the need for a 2nd phone, periods of time away from home, etc.

Never thought of that. I figured he was just whining and going to give some long story about providing for his family and never being appreciated and then claim it was self defense. With all his “Barry-isms”.

Can’t wait to hear what investigators found. But then, we can’t hear it or see it. Courts should be open. Hate the secrecy.

We are in Michigan
Hubby is home now -- he was AFib but his heart is now regulated and he is on meds and diet*

I was surprised to see it in the ER restrooms but was happy they are providing this resource for victims.

Then hubby told me they checked everywhere, and I mean, Everywhere on his body for signs of abuse and bruises, welts, etc.

Then the nurse came in and she said they go to seminars, etc and are trained on where to look on body other than the obvious and also--- HOW TO OBSERVE the significant other, spouse, BF, GF, or whoever comes into hospital with patient as she was telling me verbal clues they watch out for also.

Her (the nurse) mom is an advocate for victims of child abuse, domestic/spousal abuse in another county about 2 hours away.

I would love to have their trainer speak in public for non-medical people to be able to tell signs of abuse also-
Not just signs/ marks/bruises ON a person, but the verbal and non-verbal signs that the abuser /abused can give.
They also can pick up on sex traffickers/ the verbal and physical actions/reactions to watch for by trained medical personnel.

there won't be an OJ jury in Colorado. I think they will apply the law to the evidence....and vice versa. This assumes a competent, fully prepared prosecution of course.

@Momofthreeboys sbm Hey, thank you :)very much for your post w link.*

Interesting, some issues a party raises before a jury is empaneled vs. after a verdict.

What constitutes an improper communication w a prospective juror or person who served as a juror?

Also, the numerous appeals resulting from jurors lying about -
- their personal experience w lawsuits.
- their SM posts expressing pre-conceived beliefs about a case they later sit on.

The courts have so many interests to (try to) balance. :eek:Whew.

Oh, not a good show for facts about a case! The show, mainly her routine guests, get facts wrong often. IMO I like how she speaks from a criminal prosecutor side. Her style can definitely be rough. lol
