Lots of information I haven't been aware of before and does tell the story of Nancy as a whole person, not just "the mother of". I'm glad some of her friends did come forward.

I didn't notice much new information at all.

I TiVo'd it but haven't watched it.
I am happy to see your post jjenny, I'm hoping that Frontline didn't act irresponsibly by opting to take the route of wild speculation and conveying rumor as fact as so many media outlets are guilty of doing.

Sandy Hook students, staff likely to return to Monroe

Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson said Tuesday that Sandy Hook Elementary School probably cannot find another home by the start of the next school year as suitable as the former Chalk Hill Middle School in Monroe.

The vacant middle school was offered to Newtown after the Dec. 14 shootings, and has for now been renamed Sandy Hook Elementary to provide continuity for students, parents and staff.

No formal decision has been made about whether Sandy Hook students will return to Chalk Hill for the 2013-14 school year.
...

Town leaders have discussed what should be done with Sandy Hook Elementary School. No decisions have yet been made, but sentiment appears to be strongly against reopening the school, though there are residents who hope Sandy Hook can again be home to a school.

Huntsville author tearful when donating 26 library books; each individually honors Sandy Hook victims

Despite all the hours and thought Beck McDowell put into choosing and donating 26 children's books to honor the victims of the Sandy Hook School shooting, she still couldn't hold back her tears as she gazed at the faces that will look out from each book cover.

"I think it was the book plates that did me in," the suddenly distraught Huntsville author said of the 26 memorial markers that will adorn in inside covers of the books she donated Tuesday. "Just seeing those sweet faces."
...

You can read the list of books chosen here. Some include:

For Charlotte Bacon – My Heart is Like a Zoo, by Michael Hall

Never met an animal she didn't love, wanted to be a veterinarian; loved dresses and wearing pink; was learning Tae Kwon Do with father and brother

For Ana Marquez-Greene – Jazz Baby, by Lisa Wheeler

Had gift for melody, pitch, and rhythm; from musical family (dad - jazz musician); loved to sing even before she could talk; “danced to all the music she heard … in air or in her head; loved God and reading the Bible

For Noah Pozner – Dragons Love Tacos, by Adam Rubin

Loved tacos so much he wanted to be a taco factory manager; loved to read, build Legos and have pretend sword fights with twin sister Arielle; liked to figure things out mechanically; when his mom told him she loved him, he always said, not as much as I love you

For Mary Sherlach – The Kissing Hand, by Audrey Penn

Cared deeply about the children she counseled; looked forward to retirement in a year and time at lake cabin with husband; sat on porch in wicker lovesea

A touching tribute to Newtown victims

Hopkins started out with the name, picture, and age of each child, but once he learned more about each of them he added touches to personalize the display.

Like Avielle who liked horses and Jack who loved the Giants.

"Josephine, I know her family just had a foundation and I just added the Ravens on it because I know she's a big fan of the Ravens from Baltimore and all that, and they started Joey's fund," Hopkins said.

A tribute to the young lives and the heroic efforts with the hope they will stir more than emotion.

"We need a change," said Hopkins, "we need to change something so it doesn't happen again."

Hopkins plans to leave the memorial up for at least another year and he will add to it as he learns more information about the children.

A very good article about Sensory Processing Disorder.

Newtown Shooter Lanza Had Sensory Processing Disorder

Before the age of 6, Lanza had been diagnosed with a controversial condition, "sensory integration disorder" -- now known as sensory processing disorder, according to the report.

Those with sensory processing disorder or SPD may over-respond to stimuli and find clothing, physical contact, light, sound or food unbearable. They may also under-respond and feel little or no reaction to pain or extreme hot and cold. A third form involves sensory motor problems that can cause weakness and clumsiness or delay in developing motor skills.
...

Sensory processing disorder is a controversial condition. Just this year, its submission to the American Psychiatric Association for inclusion in the 2013 Diagnostic and Standards Manual (DSM V) was rejected.

Wiznitzer says there are no distinct criteria for diagnosing SPD and that it masks other distinct conditions like anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which can be treated with conventional drugs or cognitive therapy.

As for Lanza, he said, "You have no idea what it was like at home -- a person with extreme anxiety keeps very quiet in the outside world. Sometimes with anxiety-based behavior -- and I am not saying he had this -- if he had a change in how he was functioning, it could lead to a thought disorder."

From Frontline: Nancy Lanza: In Her Own Words

A bunch of emails that may offer some insight into her son Adam and their life together.

I really enjoyed reading the emails. Unfortunately I missed the PBS shows but, hope to catch them in reruns or online.

I thought it was interesting that she mentioned going to My Place once or twice a week even back in 1999. So, those people really were old friends of hers. I commend them for their restraint in discussing their knowledge of her with the media.

Very interesting! I wish there were emails more especially in the later years - these are all from 1999. She seems very social, it sounded like the boys were adjusting well, and that overall they were a very happy family. I noticed not much was said about PL who was always at work.

Her medical issues... Wow. It seems like it was something very serious - she even mentioned her grandfather dying from the condition. I wonder if this is why they did the DNA testing on AL? To see if he carried this "marker" for whatever genetic disorder NL had?

"Definitely a hard thing to deal with, and not something that I wanted to talk about. As it seems to be turning out...because my symptoms got better and disappeared rather than getting worse, a lot of what is going on is a genetically based problem. It showed up recently when they did a series of DNA strands. I am currently being "monitored" and "managed". It is kind of like an on/off switch. Right now, it is on "off". As long as it stays that way, I'm fine. If something happens to turn it on, I've got problems. At this point, they don't really understand how it works or why. When it happened to my Grandfather, it was so quick that nothing could be done. Six weeks.

His auto-immune system went haywire and attacked his skin and muscles. No way to stop it...no cure. It is like living on top of a time bomb. I am carrying the gene for this type of self-destruct. It started up, but then stopped by itself. Right now I am fine and hoping to stay that way."

Can you imagine someone like AL who was already sensitive to external stimuli and touching having something like this happen? This could be a reason he was angry at NL if he did inherit this genetic disorder from her.

My heart just breaks for NL especially when she responds to her friends woes of turning 40:

"Anyway...I would have probably just given you a "shame on you" lecture for all your self pity regarding turning 40. Consider the alternative. You were wondering when I might board that ship? I might not. They found another legion in my brain. I just spent the last 2 weeks having tests...some excruciatingly painful. Any hope I had that things were going to be OK or that I could be in any kind of a permanent remission are gone. There is this mad scurry to find out if anything can be done.I look at my boys and think about what will happen to them. I have to put on this big brave face for my family, but I am terrified. I get the "big talk" from my Doctor on Monday...results of tests, etc. He already said that it doesn't look good.

When you consider the alternative...doesn't 40 look pretty good? You should be thanking God for every year that you get to spend with your family."

To think she probably spent 10+ years worrying about dying from this disorder, wondering if everyday would be her last, only to be shot by AL.

Interesting, although I'm only about a third of the way through. She seems to be very social and although she thinks it's awful people don't have wine openers, she totally misspells Reiki. :)

"...a practitioner of "Raike"...and ancient oriental practice of healing and spirituality. They emphasis proper breathing...time for reflection, the importance of nutrition and adequate sleep, daily exercise, etc. I am just SO healthy and relaxed you would hardly recognize me."

I have to say, I have never sent that many long emails to anyone in my entire life!

She seemed like quite the character. I do find it odd that she opened up so much to this man who she met through RL's boyscout troop. I bet that even though it seemed like she had lots of friends she probably did not have many close relationships. I wonder if she cut off contact with Marvin LaFontaine in 2010 along with everyone else?

Me too... esp about her hubby not doing anything around the house and the whole help/exec guys stalking her :what:. I think you could be right on not having many friends as she goes into so much detail about what she has been doing this day or that but also talks a bout how incredibly busy her social calendar is. I don't even go into that detail with my family or female friends. I find her odd, goes out of her way to say she isn't pompous but then says this kind of stuff --> "they are in a position to SEEM like they know a lot...but remember THEY ARE CLERKS!!!! They have a collective IQ of about 80.....if they had any brains or ambition, would they be working for minimum wage in a warehouse environment?" ---> "snagged a few silk stockings".

Exactly. That just struck me as odd because I can't think of any male friend that I would email so much on a regular basis about such personal stuff.

My favorite misspelling: "What a delemna!"

I noticed in several of her emails she mentions that "the boys" are going to "their" friends. It seemed like AL was at least socializing back then.

I can't really tell what to think about her relationship with PL:

"And lastly, (and sometimes unfortunately) Peter doesn't really get involved in the day to day stuff. He is very busy at work, and doesn't like the annoyances of real life. "

"Peter and my mother get along so well, that I actually sent them to the movies with the boys so I could get a few things done. "

"I have gotten through the first round of parties...and, yes, you are correct, Peter always comes to the parties, but doesn't help with the planning. "

"Peter usually likes to spend the weekends with the boys if he isn't working. It is really the only time he sees them since they are often in bed by the time he gets home, and he leaves before we wake up. Peter has no house related chores...I take care of everything myself...so that frees him up for the fun stuff."

"Yes, Peter works incredible hours...he leaves at 5:00 to 5:30 in the morning and gets home usually around 10:00. Sometimes he comes home early...7:30...and sometimes later ...12:00. Major workaholic, but, as you know, there are worse things."

"I would want to take Ballroom...learn the Tango and all the great old dances. Peter refuses...but he told me that I was welcome to go on my own."

"I dropped Peter and the boys at my mother's on my way back to Ct., and they spent the next three days with her. She brought them home on Thursday, and she stayed here for a couple of days. Everyone had a good time...and I got my floors redone. Win-Win!"

One takeaway from Frontline that I found very telling was the correspondence shortly after moving to Newtown where Nancy is writing about the boys upcoming birthdays. Nancy writes that Ryan is having both an old friends party and a new friends party and Adam is just having a new friends party. This throwaway line in the hour subtlety gave insight that once people interacted with Adam for a good period of time they rejected him whereas Ryan didn't encounter the same feedback.
