No, I get it, and I wasn’t trying to yell at you :)

I was yelling at the CDC (wonder if they heard me....)

It’s understandable for people to not realize how few tests have actually been done. The information is not readily available. One has to dig and dig and dig to find out the numbers.

Once I found out that CA was still only 300 tests total as of today I think I flipped my gourd. I was under the impression the other day from our bright-white-toothed Governor’s presser that we’d have many many more tested by now.

I'd love to know there's a lack of test kits. I do know the CDC was gutted in 2018 to save money. A real bad idea if you ask me!
These two years preparing in advance would have helped right now. So we are scrambling to catch up with other countries now.

Cuomo again cites estimate he attributes to CDC of 1.4% fatality rate for #COVID19, says that's "about double the flu rate."

Note: most estimates of flu fatality are closer to 0.1%. Fatality rate for COVID-19 ~2% in China; more recently officials have estimated closer to 1%

Per IOC presser, we remain fully committed and confident for the success of the games. We will continue regular meetings of the task force. I would like to ask the athletes to continue to prepare. ....

Coronavirus worries leave some Metro Detroit store shelves bare

Dearborn — Nariman D'mour noticed she was out of bleach to clean her bathroom, so she headed to a Walmart on Monday to pick up a bottle.

To her surprise, the entire section of bleach was empty.

Shoppers appear to be reacting to news of the coronavirus spread in the United States and following recommendations to stock basic necessities to ride out any further spread...

WS TP Police

Time for all WSers to come clean! Are you a TP hoarder? How many rolls are in your possession? How many family members are in your household? Single rolls? Double rolls? Mega rolls? How many TP rolls are too many?

I currently have 12 mega rolls for a household of 2.
82 standard rolls and 24 mega rolls for household of 2. I expect the kids to come stay if it gets bad.

I got most of mine off Amazon as not to incite rioting and smuggled it into the house under the over of darkness as to keep the neighbors unaware.

ETA saw someone post of Facebook about washing your hands like you’ve been eating crawfish and need to take your contacts out. Since I’m allergic to crawfish I’ve been washing like I’ve been slicing jalapeños bare handed and need to take contacts out.

Jailed British-Iranian Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe could get temporary release over coronavirus fears, says MP
''Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian woman who has been jailed in Iran since 2016, may be granted a temporary release following an outbreak of coronavirus in the prison where she is being held, her local MP has said.

Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe could be released on furlough from the notorious Evin prison in Tehran on either Tuesday or Wednesday, Hampstead and Kilburn MP Tulip Siddiq said.

Mike Baker

I’ve spent much of the past 24 hours in Kirkland, Wash. — an epicenter of coronavirus infection — as we pieced together how the region spent weeks with just 1 case, only to have that number suddenly jump to 13, including 2 deaths.
Some key details:

Researchers now think the virus has been quietly spreading through the region for 6 weeks. That undetected spread came as the government limited testing even as doctors were eager to find out whether their patients had the virus.

Coronavirus May Have Spread in U.S. for Weeks, Gene Sequencing Suggests

One doctor in Seattle described having a sick patient who had visited China, but officials determined they did not meet testing criteria due to their travel timeline.

Testing is now expanding, and the findings and impacts are troubling:
• 2 dead
• 5 in critical condition
• 6 cases linked to a nursing facility in Kirkland that is home to dozens of elderly people.
• ¼ of Kirkland firefighters quarantined.

“We’re really aggressively sampling in Washington State now, because we feel like it has been here and we haven’t had the ability to lab test."

But some patients still aren’t getting tested. We talked to family members of one woman at the Kirkland nursing home who has been coughing for days. Her daughters want her tested, but they say she hasn’t been.
6/8

We talked to one person (by phone) who was in isolation and being tested and had been sick for weeks. As he spoke, he coughed and had to pause to catch his breath. “Hold on, I’ve got to take a deep breath, slow it down a bit.”
“It’s been a nightmare.”
7/8

We also reviewed 100s of pages of records on the nursing home linked to 6 of the 13 cases. Among the findings: In 2019, investigators found the facility had failed to ensure that staff followed “transmission-based precautions.”

P.S. And when I say "we" in this thread, there are a lot of people making this journalism. For this story, I was amazed at what @sherifink, @nickatnews and @jackhealynyt were able to find. Follow them.

What the bleep...it sounds like we are freaking China all over again, making all the same mistakes they did! Instead of learning from them we just did the same things all over. Still don't know why we could not have simply used the WHO test kit that 57 other nations used...seems like arrogance on our part and perhaps a certain dislike for the WHO as a body, which I have heard from some parts of our political body...

Not good at all IMO.

I hope they run genome tests on the people in China that are getting reinfected to make sure it’s not actually a mutated strain!
