Coronavirus COVID-19 *Global Health Emergency* #13

I’ve felt for quite some time now that there’s really no “stopping” this thing, but this almost feels like they’re rolling out the red carpet for its arrival!

Even if it can’t be contained, there should still be vigilant urgency given in an attempt to slow the progression. From my point of view, I see a lot of bass ackward thinking going on.

The US Government and the agencies in charge had best get with the program. They’re all about to get slapped in the face with a HUGE DOSE OF REALITY!

There appears to be a chronic mixture of denial and arrogance at almost every level. And I am in no way placing the fault on one party or the other - the failures thus far are those of THE US GOVERNMENT as a whole. They ALL need to gain focus on the fight with COVID-19. There will be plenty of time for them to fight with each other on political issues and departmental power plays once this thing is over.

It’s like watching a fire truck pulling up to a raging high rise apartment fire, and all the firemen start arguing about the best hose to use, what water pressure is best, who should turn on the water, and who should hold the hose!!! Will someone just start putting some water on the fire already!

Come to think of it, I wish firefighters and first responders were in charge of this thing - at least they “get it”!

IF there’s any rational logic to not screening passengers arriving from known hot spots in the world, I would LOVE TO HEAR IT!!

MOO.....

My thoughts exactly. All of it. You articulated it better than I.

THIS!!!!!
And I’m becoming more and more worried that those in charge think “well, eventually they’ll all get the virus, so why even try?”. That’ll get them off the hook for a lot of social security, lots of people with health problems, homeless, etc. not to mention there is TONS of ageism when I hear “only those elderly people” Grrrrr!
Sorry, had to vent.

Trump's 73 years old
And Congress and Senate are the average age of 57.8 and 61.8 years,
they are very susceptible themselves.

Just made my corn starch thickening agent for my homemade hand sanitizer. Thick like cream cheese frosting even while hot. Will add it tomorrow to bring alcohol content down to 60%. I don’t think it’s going to work to thicken it but it may make my hands funky enough to not want to touch my face with them. Local Walmart cancelled my order, apparently they were out when it came time to collect the stuff so next on the agenda is sanitizing wipes. Probably easier than the hand sanitizer and should have started there .

If this virus is a cross-over between SARS and AIDS, SARS is short and AIDS is long. What does that mean? That people who contract the disease may experience deteriorating lives, not only with damaged organs (e.g.: lungs), but word-salad AIDS related rapid dementia and death?

I can't shake the worry about this.

So what’s it going to take, one of them getting this coronavirus? I’m willing to bet they are taking every extra precaution available...and in the event the do get sick with it, they will have the BEST healthcare money can buy. Unlike the rest of the unwashed masses.
The hospitals for the peasants will be overloaded and a hotspot themselves.

Maybe consider talc in combination with corn starch?

Yes, what does this mean?

Detailed modeling of NPI in 2006 @Nature paper shows that if school closure is *reactive* (waiting for first case and then closing 100% of schools), with moderately transmissible virus, cumulative cases decline 26% & epidemic peak is delayed 16 days. Strategies for mitigating an influenza pandemic 7/

I read that article, but didn't link it because it applies to controlling the virus through school children, and in this case it looks like children are not at high risk ... assumed it would be dismissed. However, if the borders can't be closed anymore, at least the school can be closed.

Online, or virtual, teaching and learning has been a thing for almost 2 decades. Now is a great time to move forward with open education resources and virtual learning environments. Open academics credentialing is the next step.

FTR, I realize working out is not the biggest issue at hand. I used it as a representation of any activity that someone does regularly that they may now have to change, whatever that may be. Just thinking about what plans to cancel, or not.

At home learning, at home exercise, it's more of a reality as the pandemic sweeps the globe.

Has this been posted on the thread yet?

"'The influence of COVID-19 on the human body is like a combination of SARS and AIDS as it damages both the lungs and immune systems,' Peng Zhiyong, director of the intensive care unit of the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University in Wuhan, told the Global Times."

Coronavirus ‘like a combination of SARS and AIDS’

TECHNICALLY SPEAKING - it probably is pretty low at this very moment. But, it’s VERY MISLEADING, when you know that statement won’t hold true for very long as the viral spread progresses...

The change in tone, regarding how the situation is being presented is concerning to me. There are two conflicting goals with every presser 1) Promote optimism and manage fear levels 2) Keep the public informed

I understand it, and I fully expect the message, and the tone in which it is delivered, to change as the situation progresses.

Government officials generally know what tomorrow’s news will be well before the general public does. I really think we’ll see some big increases in confirmed cases as early as tomorrow. Which would make sense considering the volume of test kits that have now been distributed.

About to call it a night. I want to get some rest because I have a feeling this thread will be hopping tomorrow! (and I can’t keep up the way it is...)

MOO....

Actually, this thread will probably be closed and a new one open by tomorrow morning as we're doing one a day now.

LEGAL

While we're on the subject of disease and death, it's timely to mention, that there's no time like now to take care of your legal affairs.

To prepare, Health Directives, Powers of Attorney, Living Wills, Living Trusts, etal.
We are using RocketLawyer. Very easy, you complete online then print, and have signed, witnessed and or notarized.

It's free for the first 7 days, so you can do all this and actually get it all free. After that, it's $39.95 per month for continued legal papers (which we need as we're getting ready to sell our business).

My favorite place for reviews of any product is TrustPilot. They have excellent reviews there. *No I'm not affiliated, I'm just sharing with you the best way, I know how, to take care of this necessary stuff.

This is an important message. I’m just hoping my family, friends and all of you will be ok. I took out a burial funeral policy last year after my Papa died and it doesn’t pay out till the first 12 months has passed which is in June. I’m hoping if I did contract the virus I will survive till then. Remember to make sure your loved ones know what your wishes are just in case anything does happen to you.

I can't shake the worry about this.
I had a little anxiety thing just a bit ago. Feeling worried that I could be bringing this home from work to my family. Of course I have a teenager in school and spouse that works so it could get here anyway

I vacillate between thinking the decision makers are taking every possible precaution.... and thinking they actually really think this virus is “just the flu”. Honestly, I can’t pick.
