BREAKING: Iceland has now declared a state of emergency after Corona virus outbreak on the Island

43 people are now infected.

Well, unprintable. We visited Iceland briefly this summer. It's a beautiful place full of friendly people.

I was at school today (I am a teacher) and I realized it is absolutely exhausting trying to keep you hands cleaned in such an environment. Due to past school shootings all doors are closed and locked, so you have to touch handles and keys all day long, and then you pass out work, and help students, and the you gather the papers, and grab your pen, then grade the assignments, then touch your computer mouse, use your keyboard to input your grades... It is scary. I cut all my nails off last weekend and took off the rings and my hands feel raw from washing and sanitizer, but a classroom with 30 students is indeed a challenge.

If you can find them still, you may find that by wearing a pair of rubber Nitrile disposable gloves may be easier on your hands.

Ive tried wearing these rubber gloves for about a couple hours or so and the only problem when long term use is my hands start to sweat with moisture inside the gloves. But I do like wearing them when going shopping at any store now that has a cart I need to push.

I was shocked to find out that a former colleague who is now dean of a major university in Florida is going on a cruise next week with his wife during spring break at their university. Especially since he is dean of the university's college of health and human services.
That is the craziest story of the day....

Probably a good idea.
"According to the WHO, coronaviruses may survive on surfaces for just a few hours or several days, although many factors will influence this, including surface material and weather.

That’s why personal preventive steps like frequently washing hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, and wiping down often-touched surfaces with disinfectants or a household cleaning spray, are a good idea."

As coronavirus spreads, many questions and some answers - Harvard Health Blog
Obviously, they really have no clue. We can’t look to science for the answers, but we can gauge from what we know is happening around the world that this is an extremely virulent bug!

To date, @UWVirology has performed approximately 400 tests for #COVIDー19. We are seeing a consistent positivity rate of 5-7% among specimens submitted to the lab. We are able to meet all current testing demands with capacity for over 1,000 tests per day.

The rates are super low so people are jumping on the deals. I hope no one gets ill.

I don’t understand this. I was assuming the whole world watched what happened to the Diamond Princess.

It's Almost in My Backyard::(:(:(

RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- A man in Washoe County has a presumptive test of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the Washoe County District Health Department announced Thursday night.

The test has been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation.

The district described him as a man in his 50s who was linked to the Grand Princess cruise ship outbreak.

His condition is stable and he is isolating himself at home, the health department said.

The man has a family member who is a student at Huffaker Elementary School in Reno. There are no confirmed cases at Huffaker Elementary School, the health department said. Huffaker Elementary School is closed Friday because of a high number of flu-like cases there. It described the risk to the public as low at this time.

“The Health District’s top priority right now is to investigate this case and identify close contacts,” Kevin Dick, district health officer, said in a statement. “Our staff is working with the school district to help ensure safety for students and faculty at Huffaker, as well as the community. Additional information will be released as we learn more.”

Dammit, I knew I should have gone to Costco LAST night.

And you would be :confused:crazy :confused:to book a cruise in the next year or so
Eep! Closer and closer...

When people are really sick, it seems they cannot answer questions about where they went, what they did.

This is why I think people should be asked to keep notes on their daily activities. It's not such a cumbersome thing, but it does take some getting used to.

Get in the habit now of making note each day of where you went, who you were in close contact with, etc. So that if you need to do it later the habit will already be in place.

Not to mention that once a person is sick they won't be able to focus or remember as well. Why isn't this among the recommendations for everyone right now?

Not true according to my friend who is currently hospitalized in IN. The CDC declined to run the test.

If his doctor also wanted the test to be ran, perhaps he should reach out to a local news station.

With test kits being such a hot topic at the moment, I would think a news channel would love to run such a story....

MOO....

It’s just not worth it you run the risk of the ship getting refused entry to your destinations, you could get coronavirus and end up seriously ill or dead or end up having to be evacuated or quarantined.

If Royal Caribbean or Cunard offered me a round the world cruise in the best suite on the best ship for free I wouldn’t go.

I shouldn't have looked, yesterday was a shock. Today it's worse. Good thing I have low a BP, since a it's probably doubled.
Going to take a walk and look at trees or something...to calm down.
I believe they'll rally with time.

I wonder if the crew has to stay on board because most probably aren’t U.S. citizens. The ship is registered to Bermuda, if that has any impact on the situation.

That's some abusive bs right there. The students should report the instructor. They have more power than they realize. He crossed the line. So much can be done online now through Skype etc...

I thought it was irresponsible and dangerous. I do hope she's reported.

The school where I work has been supplying hand sanitizer to the classrooms, the hallway stations in front of the lavatories, and media center, offices and faculty rooms for years now. I'm ever so grateful, especially now.

So many from Italy!

1) Can they pinpoint a certain spot in Italy that all these people have in common? I'm assuming some detective work is being done in the health departments in various countries to determine that. Maybe it can be pinpointed to a certain resort or town or restaurant area or tourist attraction....could be!

2) Seems like people should be screened at Customs at the airport to ask if passengers have been to world hotspot. I know Customs have beefed up at the Mexican border (link upthread) for a reason unclear, but are they actually doing things at airports?
