IMO....its not specifically the virus they are afraid of. It's the shutting down of services and goods that might come in an area where the virus if feared to be.
In my next house I'm installing Japanese toilets with pee pee and tushy washers. Cuts way down on toilet paper use.

My daughter in Osaka has one and it even opens and closes hands free and has a UV sterilizing light. Gotta love it. :D

I was at school today (I am a teacher) and I realized it is absolutely exhausting trying to keep you hands cleaned in such an environment. Due to past school shootings all doors are closed and locked, so you have to touch handles and keys all day long, and then you pass out work, and help students, and the you gather the papers, and grab your pen, then grade the assignments, then touch your computer mouse, use your keyboard to input your grades... It is scary. I cut all my nails off last weekend and took off the rings and my hands feel raw from washing and sanitizer, but a classroom with 30 students is indeed a challenge.
Please get some good lotion and white cotton gloves. I used to wash my hands so much that they were cracked and bleeding. Before bed, apply lotion to your hands, then apply the gloves to keep the lotion from your bedding. The cotton gloves also breathe well. I bought the gloves that are used for coin collecting. They do the job and are washable and light. Hope this helps.

Pence says 21 people aboard the #GrandPrincess tested positive for #coronavirus: 19 crew 2 passengers.
Of the 2,422 guests and 1,111 crew members, 46 were tested.
The ship will dock, and ALL passengers will be tested/quarantined.
COVID19 on Twitter

Quarantined on the ship is the worst decision possible. It would be better if they were all housed in a building in separate units for 2-3 weeks. Surely everyone knows that after what happened on the ship quarantined in Japan. Optimally, they should all be quarantined at home but that likely means that they have to travel all over the place to get home.

I wonder if the crew has to stay on board because most probably aren’t U.S. citizens. The ship is registered to Bermuda, if that has any impact on the situation.
Oh that could be true - good point.

I believe they'll rally with time.

The market is still up 6000 points from 3 years ago. And I agree that more of the gain will come back, too. People are their own worst enemies, it seems.

Crikey. Out of less than 50. Bad statistics there.

Which is sort of what the pandemic epidemiologist stated. She said 40-70 % of the planet could get it.

It’s just not worth it you run the risk of the ship getting refused entry to your destinations, you could get coronavirus and end up seriously ill or dead or end up having to be evacuated or quarantined.

If Royal Caribbean or Cunard offered me a round the world cruise in the best suite on the best ship for free I wouldn’t go.

No way would I go on a cruise nor now and not before. People kept getting ill before this.
Others either are brave and/or foolish. Maybe both?
But I certainly do not wish anyone to get ill ever.

So, at this point, it might be an epidemic among all cruise ship crews. How would we know?

LONDON (Reuters) - More than 50 staff at Societe Generale's (SOGN.PA) London office were working from home on Friday, while Bank of America Corp (BAC.N) is splitting its trading force and sending 100 New York-based staff to nearby Stamford, Connecticut, from Monday as a precaution against spread of the coronavirus, sources familiar with the matter said.

Morgan Stanley (MS.N) is shifting part of its London and New York-based sales and trading staff to its sites near Heathrow Airport and Westchester County, New York, respectively, as well as having some teams work from home starting on Monday, according to sources familiar with the plans.

The three banks join other financial companies sending staff home, splitting up trading teams and activating backup offices in a bid to contain the spread of the virus in the world's largest financial and business hubs.

In London and NY, banks send staff home and to other locations as virus spreads

Any cruise we've ever taken, none of the crew members have been Americans. I found many to be from the Philippines and the Baltic countries. I assume that's probably still the case. JMO

https://www.washingtonpost.com/heal...e-coronavirus-masks-response-raises-concerns/

Quotes from article:

As coronavirus cases in Washington state mounted and the country’s first death was announced Saturday, health authorities scrambled to get more specialized masks for front-line clinicians who need to protect themselves from the highly contagious disease.

Washington state authorities sent an urgent request for 233,000 respirators and 200,000 surgical masks to be released from the federal government’s Strategic National Stockpile. The stockpile is a repository of drugs and supplies for deployment in major public health emergencies, such as an infectious disease outbreak.

Within 24 hours, Washington state’s liaison to the federal government, Casey Katims, was told his state would get assistance. But it would be less than half the amount they requested — 93,600 N95 respirators and 100,200 surgical masks.

“They did not tell us the reason for why they were fulfilling half the request,” Katims told The Washington Post.

Gov. Jay Inslee (D) has declared a state of emergency. By Thursday, the case count rose to 70, up from 39 on Wednesday, with a another fatal case in King County, in the greater Seattle area, bringing the death toll in Washington state to 11.

After lawmakers criticized the shortages in recent days, the official at the Department of Health and Human Services in charge of coordinating materials for the stockpile announced Thursday that Washington state would receive more masks.

“A second shipment is arriving today,” Robert Kadlec, the assistant secretary of health for preparedness and response, told the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee. The state will be getting the remainder of its request.Washington’s experience highlights one of the country’s biggest gaps in preparedness for battling the respiratory virus that causes the disease known as covid-19. The United States has about 1 percent of the 3.5 billion respirators that experts estimate the health-care system needs a year to fight a severe influenza pandemic. That translates to 12 million N95 respirators and 30 million surgical masks, Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar has said. An additional 5 million N95 respirators may be expired, he has said.

So, if 40-70% get the coronavirus, what happens to the other 30-60%? Are they immune somehow. I’ve never understood this.

I might consider it.... but they would have to throw in a hazmat suit as part of the deal!!

I wouldn’t have to worry about social distancing either. One thing I’ve noticed about hazmat suits is that the only person that wants to be around one is the guy wearing it!!
