A man in Washoe County has tested positive for the coronavirus and Huffaker Elementary School will be closed on Friday out of an abundance of caution, the Washoe County Health District confirmed late Thursday.

In a statement, the health district said the man has a family member who is a student at Huffaker Elementary School in Reno

The man affected is in his 50s and is linked to the Grand Princess cruise ship outbreak. He is in stable condition and is self isolating at home, the health district said. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are still working to confirm the case.

The cruise had a sick patients, was quarantined in Japan, did not sanitize the ship, loaded up a few thousand new passengers and now it's another quarantined death ship. There's no question that profit is more important than the safety of passengers.

So coming up just in my tiny universe, already scheduled and some paid for : a Broadway show, a pro basketball game, a trip on NJ Transit train to visit my daughter and grandson (and spending the week in the NYC area), my niece's very large wedding, my (step) granddaughter's college graduation, and about 30 scheduled substitute jobs at a high school. Oh, and a trip to Disney World in the fall, with my mom and brother. DH and I already cancelled a cruise.

I know I'm not alone in this - having lots of fun things and obligations planned in the near future. I could just cry thinking about this mess and the decisions that have to be made on short term and long term basis. I'm so torn. And sad.

I appreciate the people trying to warn people to stay home over 60, but if I'm in good health at the time, I can't stay home until this goes away, or something else takes it's place. Maybe if I were young I could skip a year out of my life. It seems like some of your events are going to be special and can't ever be done again. I'm going to keep my plans for the year. Also, stress will play a part in your continued health. If putting your life on hold makes you sad, maybe you can compromise on doing the highlights of your year.

I hadn't noticed that, but you're right. This virus has been circulating for months and of 101,000 sick people, 56,000 are recovered. We also hear about people who are recovered and then get sick again, so that number might also be inaccurate.

50% recovery rate after such a long illness doesn't sound good.

LATAM AIRLINE EMPLOYEE CONFIRMED AS PERU'S FIRST CASE

LATAM Airlines said on Friday that an earlier first confirmed case of the new coronavirus in Peru is one of their employees.

The patient is a 25-year-old man who had travelled to Spain, France and the Czech Republic, President Vizcarra confirmed.

The employee had been vacationing in Europe and had travelled through other airlines.

IMO....its not specifically the virus they are afraid of. It's the shutting down of services and goods that might come in an area where the virus if feared to be.

Different ship. The Diamond Princess that was quarantined in Japan is not currently in service and will undergo a deep cleaning. The recent cases in the US are from the Grand Princess.

That sounds good.

But I hope people remember that plain soap is a good thing! Just use it, whatever kind you like. No panic to get a specific kind, imo, is worth it.
