CEO of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations Dr Richard Hatchett explains the long-term dangers of the Covid-19 coronavirus - saying it's the scariest outbreak he's dealt with in his 20-year career.

Channel4 - UK:

He says it's many, many times more lethal than the flu.

Okay, WSers, this is right up our alley....detectives tracking down cases!

Q&A With A CDC Disease Detective Investigating NYC's Coronavirus Cases
"We are field epidemiologists and disease detectives. We're a group of people who work in applied public health, meaning that we respond to and we go out in the field, if necessary, to track down cases and contacts and and implement control measures to stop outbreaks...."

ABC News is reporting the Princess cruise ship
floating off the West Coast has been notified it has 21 active coronavirus cases on board.

Is that the one with those coughing youtube ladies?

There is a difference in criticizing an administration and handling of the virus and getting political. I don’t care whose in charge of our government. If they aren’t doing what it takes, they should be open to criticism.

LOL I just got my weekly robo-call from Royal Caribbean telling me I’ve been selected for an 8 day 7 night cruise.

It’s just not worth it you run the risk of the ship getting refused entry to your destinations, you could get coronavirus and end up seriously ill or dead or end up having to be evacuated or quarantined.

If Royal Caribbean or Cunard offered me a round the world cruise in the best suite on the best ship for free I wouldn’t go.

Me either. It is just not worth the risk at this time to take a cruise. In addition to possibly having a ship breakout of the virus, now there is dangers of being held at sea.

If I did this right, the link below shows the "Grand Princess Cruise Ship" location which is west of San Jose and slightly Soutwest of San Francisco. Its the larger Blue colored ship near a couple of red ones).

When I click on the Grand Princess (blue ship), it gives these Statistics:

Status:Underway Using Engine
Speed/Course:11.2kn / 238°
Draught:8.6m

MarineTraffic: Global Ship Tracking Intelligence | AIS Marine Traffic

ETA-Yesterday it was way south near Baja California, so it moved way up near San Francisco. There was some confusion to me in the PC today whether they were going to let the ship dock and start testing people. I sure hope they dont let the ship dock near the big populated city of San Francisco.

But if I was going to bet on it, then it appears they may. Or why else would it have headed up near San Francisco from where it was way south yesterday.

Unfortunately, my friend, folks on here can't distinguish between the two. So we are being extra careful so it doesn't get shut down....

Then make a different thread for it. It's cluttering up this already voluminous thread.

And it shouldn't be "anyone" anyway. There is a protocol to follow to determine who should get a test, and it's not just "anyone."

Clear info would be helpful. Just my opinion.
However, it would be a giant plus just to know that if a test was needed, it would be there for anyone. I'm betting lots of us are questioning our sniffles and our coughs and sneezes. What scares me as much as actually contracting this disease, is not have anyone or anyway to test and treat me.

Yes, the criticism would be there no matter which party is handling the coronavirus situation. It’s HOW it’s being handled, not WHO that is the issue. I think we’re all intelligent enough to understand that. I think news about coronavirus is more important than criticism, but when warranted, it should be accepted as apolitical. JMO

What worries me, are the children in Special Education, many of whom are medically fragile. A child with COVID19, could easily decimate the entire classroom of kids, or a special school, dedicated to the most severe children, could completely wipe out the school.

These are children, often with several physical conditions. Especially preemies, even in school, these children still have problems breathing, lung issues.

Shrug. Is there really anything that we can do to change the inevitable spread of this flu? I don't think so.

I can't shrug it off. And the health care professionals appear to state it can be contained.

Once a charlatan, always a charlatan, IMHO. SMH.
Glad James, et al, went after him quickly. Folks should buy wet wipes and hand sanitizer instead of whatever he is peddling.

It's problems like this that may have allowed the virus to spread too fast in the USA

"The World Health Organization (WHO) has shipped testing kits to 57 countries. China had five commercial tests on the market 1 month ago and can now do up to 1.6 million tests a week; South Korea has tested 65,000 people so far. The U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in contrast, has done only 459 tests since the epidemic began. The rollout of a CDC-designed test kit to state and local labs has become a fiasco because it contained a faulty reagent."

The United States badly bungled coronavirus testing—but things may soon improve

What is cluttering up the thread? There is a virus that is international. We have countries responding (China's response receiving much criticism, fwiw) and we have international bodies responding like WHO. For those of us in the USA, we are looking at our federal, state, and local responses to the virus situation.

What's the clutter? Reaction to the adequacy of the response?
