Yeah, it might be like having the flu for the vast majority of people. But on the larger level, this does have the potential to be quite a serious epidemic.

It's my understanding based on everything I've read that it's actually not like having the flu for the majority of people. The symptoms of this virus tend to be milder than the flu. The kind of stuff otherwise healthy people might not even go to the doc for. Like the flu, however, it does have an amplified impact on the elderly and health compromised.

Some people infected with the virus have no symptoms. When the virus does cause symptoms, common ones include low grade fever, body aches, coughing, nasal congestion, runny nose, and sore throat. However, COVID-19 can occasionally cause more severe symptoms like high fever, severe cough and shortness of breath, which often indicates pneumonia.

Many here, along with medical professionals, have talked about cleaning hard surfaces like countertops, vanities, tabletops, appliances, etc. How do you sanitize soft surfaces like upholstered furniture, mattresses, etc.? Sheets, pillowcases, blankets, comforters can be laundered, but soft surfaces like sofas and chairs usually require professional cleaning. Same with carpets. Will vacuuming alone keep COVID-19 from lingering on carpeted areas?

Pope to live-stream services after cancelling appearances

Pope Francis will live-stream Sunday services and other events online due to Italy’s deadly coronavirus outbreak.

The 83-year-old pontiff, who is suffering from a cold, has cancelled all his regular appearances in public to prevent large gatherings at the Vatican.

He will not address crowds from a window overlooking St Peter’s Square on Sunday as normal and he will not hold his general audience from there on Wednesday.

The flu vaccine does work well. It has about a 50% average efficacy rate. That’s due in part to their guesstimates as to what strain will be prevalent. But there are hundreds. Yet they only vaccinate for a few strains.

It works.
50% efficacy rate? Ok, it works a little.

Coronavirus could be spread by air-conditioning and may be more contagious than previously thought, scientists believe after finding traces of the virus in hospital air-duct

Traces of the coronavirus found in a hospital air duct has led scientists to believe the disease could be spread through air-conditioning units, making it more contagious than initially thought.

not surprising. Now I'm waiting for the studies
on airline air ducts. I've long believed that it's
a dirty little secret and we're just not told about it.

I'm getting over Pnuemonia. My bedroom is carpeted. I ended up throwing ALL linens in wash and then lysol'd the crap out of pillows, bed, carpet, curtains. I was in that room more than any for the last couple weeks. I live alone so i'll probably do that to everywhere i sat. I'm on the mend now and do NOT want to re-catch anything. I would steam clean if i had the energy.

I think a handheld steamer might possibly help kill the virus on sofas, cushions and mattresses they usually heat up to 210 to 230 degrees. I don’t think the virus can survive exposure to that degree of heat.

I am more worried about seats on a darn bus (I use public transportation). But they are so dirty they will probably kill the corona virus by their dirtiness. Just kidding.
Seriously, though, whose brilliant idea it was to use fabric seats on public transportation?

State officials announced Saturday afternoon that there are no new presumed cases of coronavirus, keeping the total of cases in the state at four.

Four people in New Jersey are currently being tested, however, a majority of tests in the state have come back negative.

There have been 29 tests administered in the state, 25 have been negative and four are presumptive positives. The four tests in progress include one in Union County, one in Mercer County and two in Bergen County, said the state's Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli.

She also said that as of Friday night there were 15 additional cases under investigation for exhibiting symptoms after having contact with a known case or pneumonia of an unknown cause. The state will test all of these cases.

There are fabric disinfectants you can spray on your sofa, don't know if they will kill corona virus, though.

Maybe Lysol spray would be helpful. Just a suggestion though.

“Foreigners” from where? Tia. I’m just wanting to track and keep up with the known sources/web of spread, as much as possible from a mapping perspective, etc.
