@JaneEyre - It's a bit like asking: How many squares of TP do you need to feel secure?

How many bullets do you need to feel secure?
I guess they’re expecting shoot-outs over hand sanitizer.

Why?

As a gun owner, I ask why.

Seriously? Does anyone "need" a reason to stockpile ammo?

I am thinking that folks are concerned about supply chain, and ammo potentially getting more expensive.

Valid question. Well, my only direct frame of reference to that is what I posted last week, that the guy here who said he was stocking up on ammo was because he believes “this is the beginning of the apocalypse”.

It would be interesting to hear what other specific reasons may include.

I can think of some but they might be a little premature and dramatic LOL so will leave that one alone. :D
Let’s just say I remember Hurricane Katrina. And that’s all I want to say about that.

I’ve never seen a thread go downhill so fast as when the word “gun” is mentioned. Not touching that with a ten foot pole, nor should anyone else if we want this thread to stay open. Mooooo

Barcelona is taking this epidemic seriously by cancelling its marathon. Why won’t @lamarathon or @ericgarcetti? If there is an epidemic in LA in coming weeks.... #COVID19

Ugh...I have a necessary doctor appointment tomorrow. The waits are always long, but he’s worth it so I put up with it. If the waiting room is crowded I’m going to ask to sit in an auxiliary waiting room they have or out in my car. They can phone me when they’re ready for me. It’s a very nice office and they like us because we aren’t complainers so I’m sure they’ll put up with/accommodate my “special needs.” I will be very interested in what precautions they are or aren’t taking.

I have a much-needed haircut appointment on Tuesday. I don’t want to cancel because I hate to see the economic downturn trickle down to small business people any sooner than necessary. But I will get a shorter cut and stretch out the next appointment longer...and hope things aren’t even worse by then or I’ll be cutting my own! And I have another necessary doctor appointment the following week (don’t get old). If I survive all this I’m good to go for awhile...I think.

The worst that can happen is doing what Italy seems to be doing. You shutdown and lockdown the affected regions, eventually getting "R0<1", but you do it 10 days too late. So, you pay the high price, but get only a part of the benefit because you waited too long.

Hahaha! I counted mine. Nervous energy. I have 930 squares, not including the rolls in my 4 bathrooms. How few for each “trip” truly depends!

Speaking of “Depends”....:D

#COVID19 - storm in US has begun. Rapid action needed to reduce impact, save lives. Immediately: restrict visits to nursing homes & make sure ill staff don't work - paid sick leave. Steps all of us, medically vulnerable, health care, & society can take at: Coronavirus analysis: It's time to restrict visits to nursing homes - CNN

I cannot AGREE more.

I would have thought the seasoned professionals at CDC, NIH, FDA would have thought of this first. For the protection of the residents and the caregivers.

Today for the first time 100 countries are reporting #COVID19 cases. This comes after the reached 100,000 cases yesterday. While very serious, this should not discourage us. There are many things everyone, everywhere can and should do now. #coronavirus

Why are governors declaring "State of Emergency"? INMO, that seems super scary.

It’s all about the door this unlocks to more available and allocated resources, similar to when this is announced after a hurricane/natural disaster.

Me too. Will send a pm to check. Thanks.
@Steelslady has been MIA since early January. And she was extremely active up til then. I didn't want to "stalk" her but was worried, so checked and saw Jan 7 last time active.

One thing we haven't really mentioned is the average age or health risk of healthcare professionals.

I would say that more than 65% of the caregivers and workers of all types at my local hospital are over 50, and probably 30% over 60.

The nationwide average age of a practicing RN is 50.

This skews highly toward physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, respiratory staff. And these are all experienced people we need to be working during these high-volume epidemics.

Healthcare in general has an older worker population because newer graduates are going into other professions or career paths.

For a location that has a virus endemic to the community, these are ridiculously low numbers.
