I love the word: FOMITE !
I've started replacing curse words with it.

Like "OH FOMITE!" when I drop something.

If I’m reading that excellent graph right, the U.S. number of cases per million is below EVERY other country! Seriously?
I posted something similar this morning from watching MSNBC and AM with JOY

Here it is:
"Italy could be a sign of what is to come." More testing is done there and therefore numbers are more reflective of reality. Only countries testing vigorously are China, South Korea, Italy and Iran. The 107,000 reported cases globally are probably not accurate because of lack of testing.
Big sigh!

Seriously? Does anyone "need" a reason to stockpile ammo?

I am thinking that folks are concerned about supply chain, and ammo potentially getting more expensive.

As a Canadian who doesn't own a gun why would a supply chain issue make you want to buy more ammo if ammo wasn't an issue before the virus?

OT
Just thinking about the cost of meds, Canadian, my mom's meds
cost very little, but it's all the vitamin supplements and protein shakes
that add up to a small fortune per year.

I know, but as a Canadian when do we ever worry about civil unrest?

It's to go on record for getting federal funds.
In actuality it doesn't mean much although the
proclamation sounds very proactive if you read it. You can see ours at Fl. Dept. of Health.
Right, we're so used to it in Florida because before every hurricane it's declared to release emergency funds for cleanup, overtime staffing, sheltering people, national guard, etc. It's proactive.

I just got together with about 10 members of my family for a joint birthday thing and then found out after I got home that my cousin, who my dad lives with, was in Italy (Rome) and other places in Europe at the end of February. Now I’m concerned because we just spent two hours with my dad.

Italy’s “patient one” is a 38-year-old marathoner who has been in the ICU for a month with respiratory failure. This virus is not something to be dismissed, regardless of your age or health status. Please take precautions.
Barry Schapiro, MD, FAAOS on Twitter

We've been saying that all along, but someone somewhere is putting funny ideas in people's heads and leading them to believe that only sick old people get sick and die.

The Multnomah County Health Department says that over the course of the last week, their phones have been clogged with health care providers concerned their patients have the coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.

We’ve had about 150 calls this week,” said Lisa Ferguson, the Multnomah County Health Department communicable disease manager. “Most of them have been health care providers asking about the testing. The majority of those people have not met the current testing criteria.”

Right now, the Oregon Health Authority is limiting testing to patients who have severe pneumonia requiring hospitalization and to people who have had contact with confirmed coronavirus cases. They just don’t have enough tests to check everyone. That means, until more testing happens, there’s no real way of knowing how far the disease has spread in Oregon.
Testing Limitations May Conceal Coronavirus Spread In Oregon

Yes, diagnosed pneumonia

If he has pneumonia, then what would be the point in using a test on him? Seems like it would be wasteful. Would the treatment differ?

I’m sorry, I’m terribly behind on the thread. Did anyone else watch the California Governor Newsom’s press conference just now?

I have several thoughts-

1) I was shocked at how effusively complementary he was of the Trump administration (and Pence specifically), the CDC, and local public health departments. Say what? o_O

2) He repeatedly said CA is very well prepared to treat acutely ill coronavirus patients in our Bay Area facilities. Say what? o_O

3) We will have many many more tests available “in coming days”. Say what? o_O What does “coming days” mean? They have said that for over a week.

4) His teeth sure are lovely and bright, but his speaking cadence was horribly hard for me to listen to.

NOTE: He reported that the entire state of California has, to date, tested roughly only 800 people. TOTAL. California currently, right this moment, “has ability to test just shy of 8,000 people”. In the entire state of California. I’m mind-blown (miss that emoji... insert here).

So, I was overall really shocked by this presser. I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. For those that may not know, he and the Trump administration have a historically horrible relationship. Given where we are in California right now (lack of testing, lack of government oversight of safety precautions and consistent public health advice, and high numbers of positive cases despite insufficient testing), I really don’t understand his effusive praise of how things are being handled.

Felt like he was gaslighting Californians. Twilight Zone.

All MOO.

Oh my goodness. And he lives with your dad?

He was probably thrilled that some of the boat folks are going to other states.....and he got the most test kits....just guessing.

To know who he has been around so they can be advised of what to watch for, especially those that are older/immunosuppressed. The reason is because people don't get tested so the communal spreading is more widespread. Better to be prepared. What if he was in a nursing home visiting a few days ago. Better for them to know and watch for initial symptoms and know how to treat. Took 3 tries to find the right antibiotic for my 5 week cough. If they know, they can start off with the 'strong' ones, instead of letting it take hold.
