FOODBANKS RUNNING SHORT ON BASICS AMID CORONAVIRUS STOCKPILING

Some food banks are starting to run out of basics and are rationing out parcels amid stockpiling and a fall in donations during the coronavirus outbreak.

Several food banks in the Independent Food Aid Network (IFAN) are struggling to purchase cupboard staples such as long-life milk, cereal and pasta.

Others have seen a fall in donations and are anticipating this to continue as the Covid-19 outbreak progresses, said Sabine Goodwin, the network's coordinator.

I have been concerned about this. I hope more people help if they are able.

Aussie humor at work :p

A Brisbane cafe owner has come up with an ingenious way for dealing with someone who recently stole a bottle of communal hand sanitiser.

Ian Henderson, the owner of The Total Picture Framing Co and Cafe in Brisbane, revealed the bottle of hand sanitiser had been taken by a customer from his business last Thursday.

Rather than spend time and energy bringing the thief to justice, the savvy business owner decided a sign calling their actions out was perfect for the job.

“To the creep who STOLE the hand sanitiser we made available for our customers (sic) use,” the message declared.

“You are a despicable, selfish person. We hope Karma bites you on the a*se!”

We survived a major city shut down after Hurricane Sandy. We can handle it.

Of course, we weren't quarantined at home, so just the quarantining and the thought of not being able to leave your home will be a nightmare. Maybe think of it as a snow blizzard, everything shut down?

Yes! Of course people can get through it. Maybe most of us haven't had to do that before, if we don't live in blizzard places, but we can do it! And under most countries' quarantine zone rules, you can still go to the shop if you've run out of essentials, you can still go to the pharmacy, you can still get groceries delivered. People have survived worse than that!

Good morning all. I see you've been busy enough to get a new thread. #18 already. How many will we need? (rhetorical)

Bringing this forward from #17 and post from @Lilibet because I'm curious as well

"Does anyone here know how soon a test would register positive after exposure? If someone has been exposed, and is with or without symptoms, do they have to wait a certain length of time to be tested so the test would be valid?"

*Going back to catch up here and #17

Hopefully everyone will read the notes by SillyBilly and Tricia that are on the first page of this thread, and we can have as many threads as we need to have!

There are a great many elderly people in the greater Palm Springs area. This could turn out to be a very bad situation.

I told my daughter about Coachella and she said there is a rumor it will be rescheduled for October.

Our 80 year old neighbor who just got out of the hospital for a leg infection told me yesterday that “it’s a hoax” and I’m still flabbergasted.
Lol 50% of the people here say the same! Of course some still don’t believe Sandy Hook nightmare happened.

Mr. Stew takes the bus around DT Seattle daily. I actually went on bay of e's and purchased a few 95n masks...go ahead, throw something at me. We have an immune system impaired loved one at home. :(
Please be cautious when buying, I have heard of damaged (dirty, torn) and even used masks being sold.

I knew this would happen eventually! In my town we have none to purchase. After the next town over had a WMT employee diagnosed, they are all driving to my town, so WMT is strained, hopefully they will get extra trucks & be able to stock shelves.

The U.S. has tested more than 8,500 specimens for coronavirus. That doesn't equal 8,500 patients.

More than 8,500 specimens have been tested for the coronavirus across the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a promising sign that testing is finally becoming more widespread in this country after a series of missteps.

But because multiple specimens are required from each individual, the number of actual patients who have been tested is likely far lower.

3 coronavirus cases connected to (Fort Lauderdale) Florida seaport

The state of Florida has issued new guidance for people traveling through Port Everglades in Broward County due to the number of coronavirus cases identified at the port.

At least three coronavirus patients have been linked to Port Everglades, a seaport for cruises and commercial ships. All three of those cases are connected to Metro Cruise Services, which provides cruise terminal management, terminal security services, ground guest services and shore excursions.

Due to the coronavirus cases at Port Everglades, officials are now recommending the following:

  • All individuals experiencing symptoms who have recently traveled through Port Everglades should immediately contact their county health department or health care provider and self-isolate for 14 days.
  • The department also recommends employees of Metro Cruise Services at Port Everglades with any association to these cases self-isolate at home.
  • The department is working to connect with all employees at Metro Cruise Services who may have come into contact with the three individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 to provide the employees with the appropriate guidance and monitoring.

I'm not sure, but googled that Ontario's next 'welfare' cheques are sent out end of month dated for March 31. Can't be plausible to stockpile for families in this circumstance?

I've had these moments where
I take a pause and
I am astounded what my economic privilege affords me.
That I could easily drop 3 bones plus on dogfood in one purchase, without a second guess.

There but for the grace of ...
Will def purchase items for the food bank next grocery shop.

I travel weekly for work. Can not perform job remotely. Our team was told that if we no longer felt safe flying domestically - they certainly understood and would accept my resignation/termination of contract. Sigh
Give it a couple of weeks....they will be forced to change their tune when this thing explodes....and it will. They just don't believe it yet.....

Wow. I'm surprised he didn't go over some simple things they could do to increase their safety by limiting their exposure........
He goes to the same church they do. He knows they're there 4-5 times a week. He knows they visit local nursing homes almost daily. Oh and he's hoping FIL's new bladder cancer medication will be in by 3/28!
