I hate being a disaster Debbie.....but......what is the likely that we can shut down massive cities like the Chinese did? If the answer is yes, then we can expect comparable results.....if the answer is no then we can expect massive losses......

Very good point.

As much as we were disgusted to hear how China was treating some of its citizens with forced barricades on their homes, etc., they were taking aggressive steps that not many countries will go as far as they did.

When China had that representative blast the US for taking things too far, I about fell out of my chair because China has went the farthest in its reaction to this mess.

My biggest concern is I have elderly parents. My Dad is 78 and my mum is 71. I am dreading me getting it but I’m only 32 so fingers crossed I would be fine but my parents are a real concern and we live in London so millions of people and it will spread like wildfire.
This is what worries me most as well. My mom is 86, my dad 87. And my brother is handicapped with many medical issues and a compromised immune system in the past. I will worry also about my little grandchildren if and when this begins to affect small members of the population.

U.S. could see some empty shelves by mid-April if coronavirus epidemic worsens

Production bottlenecks could cause some bare shelves at brick and mortar retailers within 60-90 days, retail analysts warn.
This is a REALLY good point.... stocking up now not so much because we won’t be able to leave our homes, but because the stores may be out of stock for a long time.

Namaste folks..... I’m back from yoga. And now once again, woefully behind on the thread. I have to figure out what happened with the Governor Newsom’s CA press conference.... Is the sky falling here in CA? Off to read.

As for my fears/concerns...
I’m prepared to kiss my 🤬🤬🤬 goodbye, it’s my husband, who’s a subcontractor who works in hospitals nationwide, 2 daughters (nurses, 1 being in military) their spouses ( 1 military Dr. and 1 fireman). My oldest daughter (nurse) is expecting 2nd child in May.

CT provides best diagnosis for COVID-19

CT provides best diagnosis for COVID-19
Date:February 26, 2020
Source:Radiological Society of North America
Summary:In a study of more than 1,000 patients published in the journal Radiology, chest CT outperformed lab testing in the diagnosis of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The researchers concluded that CT should be used as the primary screening tool for COVID-19.
Chest CT, a routine imaging tool for pneumonia diagnosis, is fast and relatively easy to perform. Recent research found that the sensitivity of CT for COVID-19 infection was 98% compared to RT-PCR sensitivity of 71%.

CT Provides Best Diagnosis for COVID-19

Recent research found that the sensitivity of CT for COVID-19 infection was 98% compared to RT-PCR sensitivity of 71%.

For the current study, researchers set out to investigate the diagnostic value and consistency of chest CT imaging in comparison to RT-PCR assay in COVID-19.

The sensitivity of chest CT in suggesting COVID-19 was 97%, based on positive RT-PCR results. In patients with negative RT-PCR results, 75% (308 of 413 patients) had positive chest CT findings. Of these, 48% were considered as highly likely cases, with 33% as probable cases. By analysis of serial RT-PCR assays and CT scans, the interval between the initial negative to positive RT-PCR results was 4 to 8 days.

“About 81% of the patients with negative RT-PCR results but positive chest CT scans were re-classified as highly likely or probable cases with COVID-19, by the comprehensive analysis of clinical symptoms, typical CT manifestations and dynamic CT follow-ups,” the authors wrote.

(e.d. no surprise here for those following on the thread.... will have to look at new WHO requirements as today he said there would be some coming out)

Just curious, with everything that we currently know, what are everyone’s biggest fears/concerns?
I think mine are the possibility of being exposed to the virus (I have a somewhat weak immune system) and community ignorance to heed precautions when asked. With the info from the CDC being funneled thru the administration, I’m further concerned that we, the public won’t even know what is the truth and how to properly avoid risks. How do we even know how many positive cases and quarantined “possibles” are in our specific area(s)? Rural areas and small towns won’t have a CNN report to check for cases in their communities. Who’s informing them? I truly hope Pence has a plan in effect to inform and educate not just cypher detrimental info. MOOOOO
My primary concern is my son (age 15) since he has asthma. He got Flu A this year and it really knocked him for a loop. My daughter (age 18) is in college but, thankfully, lives at home and not in a dorm, and she is generally healthy so I'm not as concerned about her. My parents are both in their 70s and they both have health issues (my mother especially), so I'm concerned about them and unfortunately they live about 6 hours from me.

The Decatur County Sheriff's Office in Oberlin, Kansas, said meth purchased locally might be contaminated with coronavirus (which is not true) and they are advising drug users to get their supplies tested for free.

“If you have recently purchased meth locally, it may be contaminated with the coronavirus,” the post said. “Please take it to the sheriff's office or police department and they will test it for free." “If you're not comfortable going into an office, please contact any officer and they'll test your meth in the privacy of your home. Please spread the word!”

COVID-19: Kansas sheriff’s office will test your meth for coronavirus
Well, apparently Kansas isn't the only one offering this:

My top three fears concerns:

My biggest concern is panic (I prefer to not use the “F” word). ;)
Panic breeds more panic and when panic turns into chaos, it never ends well.

2) Well being of family.
(my parents are in their 70’s)

3) Losing sight of who we are as Americans. (Americans for me as I live in the US, but beyond that - humanity as a whole)

Trials and tribulations will either unite or divide ~ United We Stand.
This will bring out the best and the worst in people. It’s my hope that it brings out the best in the majority.

My children will have to grow up in the aftermath of all this, so I really hope they get to witness global solidarity.

My husband and I both have grandparents alive and in their 80’s. Our parents are alive and in their 60’s. I’m sending out masks to friends and family because I think they’ll need them more than me. We live in the country on 10 acres, 25 miles from downtown Houston. I’ll be happy to self quarantine if it comes to that but you aren’t removing me from my property. I have too many animals that depend upon me for food and water which is why it’s important to me to be prepared. It’s also important for me to stay healthy enough to be able to take care of them daily, multiple times per day. Our property is wide enough to maintain minimum distances and then some. Hopefully no one will feel the need to start forcibly removing people or locking them in the house.

I’m with all of you and your personal concerns. My son is traveling from LA to Florida tomorrow, my 4 very young grand babies, my pregnant daughter with my future grandson, my elderly parents, etc. Quite honestly I’m beyond concerned at this point. TY all for sharing. MOO

I shared my primary concern (for the time being) in post #587:

This is what concerns me more than anything else: That we might not get accurate or timely information if the powers that be seek to control the messaging. I'm afraid we could be headed in the direction of state-run media coverage that limits the amount and content of information shared with the public.

"forecasts say a pandemic outbreak could last up to 10 months, and 40% of the country's workforce could be sidelined by illness or caring for family members."

This will impact the lowest-wage workers very very deeply.

If you depend on tips at your restaurant job and books are way down because no one wants to venture out, how do you put food on the table? put gas in the car? pay the electricity or water bills?

The NHS is rolling out new services to test people for coronavirus, including “drive through” testing in west London.

The service, provided by Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust in Parsons Green, is only available after a referral from NHS 111.

It comes after the NHS’ strategic incident director for coronavirus asked health services across the country to set up home and community testing.

People are invited to an appointment in their car, where two community nurses carry out a swab in the nose and mouth. The patient is then asked to self-isolate while the swabs are assessed within 72 hours.

Coronavirus news: Italy, China, Iran, South Korea all confirm new cases - CNN

Great idea! Thanks.

You need evaporated milk, not condensed milk

Sweetened condensed milk can be frozen into something that resembles ice cream. Very sweet

Did someone say ice cream?

@margarita25 , go get yourself some sweetened condensed milk!

:D
