I found a better feed for the presser.
Solano County health officials provide coronavirus update

Of note that I’ve just picked up since joining in late:

The guy talking (not sure who he is- some medical lead in Solano County, maybe the Public Health official) says he does NOT think the fact Travis Air Force Base is in same location is a direct connection. He claims that it’s basically a coincidence, but that the fact the TAFB patients have been being treated in the area may have contributed to healthcare workers being more in tune to identifying this latest patient.

ETA: presser is over

Updated 3 p.m. Feb. 27: Chancellor Gary S. May and UC Davis Health Vice Chancellor and CEO David Lubarsky issued a statement to the Davis and Sacramento campuses, advising of three people from the Davis campus who are currently in isolation: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is testing one for COVID-19, while the two others are asymptomatic and, following CDC guidance, have not been tested.

Read the statement in its entirety.

Updated 7:50 a.m. Feb. 27: UC Davis Health officials send a letter to employees, advising a patient is being treated at the medical center for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). “Since the patient arrived with a suspected viral infection, our care teams have been taking the proper infection prevention (contact droplet) precautions during the patient’s stay,” the letter states. “This is not the first COVID-19 patient we have treated, and because of the precautions we have had in place since this patient’s arrival, we believe there has been minimal potential for exposure here at UC Davis Medical Center.”

This is the hospital in Vacaville where the first person to contract the #coronavirus through unknown community contact in the US was originally treated. The woman is now being treated at UCD Med Center in Sacaramento.

And to some extent, this overlaps with another major issue...illegal immigration and whether people will seek help when they need to.

Or why people are allowed to cross borders with out inspection or legal admission and potentially be carriers of a deadly disease.

Not political. Just acknowledge that lack of border security makes a country vulnerable to a pandemic. Not in relation to any particular country or border.

Oh my. Now thats a new one for me. I would have guessed that walking quickly would make one have to breathe in deeper and give you more of a chance of catching it. I never would have guessed that walking quickly could be a tactic to avoid the virus.

Although I did naturally walk quickly away from someone who was coughing the other day, so there is probably something to that since that was a natural reaction I had.

Apparently I missed seeing this part of the presser

Coronavirus live updates: Up to 100 health workers exposed to Solano County patient

4:38 p.m. Health workers to be quarantined in Solano County:
Solano county public health officer Bela Matyas said at a news conference that the patient with no known source of infection visited to health centers before being diagnosed with coronavirus and health workers were exposed. Some of the workers are under isolation and some will be quarantined. Officials said the number is in the dozens — but under 100 people.

I'm sure that a single case on a university campus means outbreak on campus. Students move from building to building, classroom to classroom, along with the entire student population. I think it would spread fast.

It doesn’t sound like they’re too alarmed...yet! If I were the parent of a student, I would be. Here’s more from U.C. Davis:

We do want you to know, however, that out of an abundance of caution, three members of the campus community who had been living in Kearney Hall are currently in isolation. The CDC is testing one of them for COVID-19, and this person is not on campus. The other two individuals are asymptomatic, meaning they are not showing any symptoms of illness, so, following CDC guidance, they have not been tested.

As an additional precautionary measure, daily disinfection practices are being implemented within all Student Housing and Dining Services properties.

Additionally, all students seeking care at the Student Health and Wellness Center are being asked about recent travel and contact with people with known COVID-19.

Many of you are asking about the status of classes and campus operations both in Davis and Sacramento. We will follow the guidance of the Yolo County and the California Department of Public Health before we make any decisions. We are not planning to cancel classes or suspend or modify operations at this time. Currently, we believe there is no need to do so.

We understand that there is a great amount of concern, uncertainty and anxiety in the campus community. The safety and wellbeing of our students, faculty and staff are our highest priority. We are taking all appropriate measures and working closely with the CDC, California Department of Public Health and county agencies to coordinate.

While there is much we are learning about COVID-19, one thing we do know is that it has a high recovery rate.
