I don't see how that will happen unless they already have the trucks in LA, ready to go. LAPD doesn't play around. They will bring out SWAT if a bigwig or two try to block the ramps.
That’s good to know they are ready to handle anything!

My tests ordered on the preview day have not arrived but my order was confirmed. No word since.

I spoke too soon. I got an email tonight that my tests will arrive on Tuesday Feb. 15. :)

DH and I were talking yesterday about why our test kits hadn't arrived yet. Not long after our conversation, there was this special report on WDIV. Like many of you, I ordered the government test kits the day before announcement was made public. It's possible that the post office did not want to deliver the test kits when we had a couple of weeks of below freezing temperatures. I will call post office today and ask what might be causing the delay in the delivery of the Covid test kits. Still waiting on the free at-home COVID tests you ordered from the government? So are many others (clickondetroit.com)

A lot of us are still waiting and it's disappointing.

It's been unseasonably warm here where I live so I'm just wondering if there isn't some sort of computer glitch that's keeping our kits from shipping.

I just refuse to answer. It just bothers me enormously, pandemic or not, the way people suddenly think its A-ok to ask personal questions of basic strangers. It gives me the heebie jeebies. JMO

It is kind of creepy. If I'm talking to someone and the virus subject comes up, I'll often offer that I'm vaccinated--just in case they were worrying. But, I don't ask anyone else, because that's not my business.

Medical providers don't even ask their patients this question, unless for surgery or other invasive treatment.

I noticed that my doctor(s) and other health care professionals will say at some point during the visit that vaccines for pneumonia, flu, and covid-19 are available if you want me to refer you to . . .

But they don't ask directly, that is the protocol. I appreciate the respectful approach they take.

My experiences are totally the opposite-- all doctors, dentists, even my eye doctor... have those tablets to fill out information.... ALL ask if infected within last two weeks, if you've been around anyone with covid, and vaccination status.....

Please let us know when you get them. I'm highly interested in the manufacture date as well.

Our restaurant is having it's first "celebration event" in over 2 years, Valentine's Day, this Monday, in Southern California.
We have large outside patio. Weather is expected to be in the high 70's.
There will be some "winging" it.
Items I need from my food suppliers for this menu are hit and miss.
We are also out of practice!
Hopefully, we can pull it off and deliver a great dinner and service to our loyal customers. Lord knows, we are in need of a positive night that supplies not only good vibes, but a cash infusion.
I'm digging deep on this because I'm fighting myself on saying F it.
Thankfully, I've always been a fighter.
But at 68, I'm tired.
This virus has been very cruel to all of us.
Wish me "stamina".

I hope it goes well for you. I'm a much smaller scale small business owner but I understand how horrible this pandemic has been on those of us who blaze our own trails.

Wishing you “stamina.” :) I’m sure you’ll have a great evening and even if there are supply glitches, your customers will be thrilled to be back with you. Let us know how it goes!

Yeah, that sounds creepy that random people or strangers would ask your vaccination status.

I can’t imagine having that type of conversation with a random shopper in the grocery store line for example. Maybe a nod and hello is about it for chitchat when I’m out and about in public.

I did ask the home health care agency that sends their employees who come into my house if the nurses/aides/PT were vaccinated and to confirm they would wear masks.
Just because they would be in very close contact with a family member.

None of that here, no physicians, dentists or eye doctors have asked. When I make an appointment with the dentist, for example, which I did yesterday, at the end of the call I say: "Do you have any covid protocols in place?" And they give me the information I need about masks and if they provide any other information, all the better, but if not, I have the information that I need regarding masks.

Pfizer pulls FDA request for Covid vaccine for kids under 5 (nbcnews.com)

The company said it believes three doses "may provide a higher level of protection in this age group."

Pfizer-BioNTech is postponing its rolling application to the Food and Drug Administration to expand the use of its two-dose Covid-19 vaccine for children ages 6 months to 4 years.

The move means that vaccines for this age group will not be available in the coming weeks, a setback for parents eager to vaccinate their young children.

Pfizer said on Friday that it will wait for its data on a three-dose series of the vaccine, because it believes three doses "may provide a higher level of protection in this age group." Data on the third dose is expected in early April, the company said...

Looking at the most recent data on the CDC website, it shows that the mortality rate from covid-19 for children 0-4 years old is 0.0003% ( 296 children age 0-4 and total covid-19 deaths all ages as of Feb 9, 2022 of 898,684).

Quite honestly, there are practicalities to the matter.

When a customer says "I am 88 years old and I really want only vaccinated people in my house", or says "my husband has cancer and is susceptible, are the crew vaccinated?" what do you do?

Tell them it is none of their business (or none of our business) and forego the well-paying work?
Tell them that the vaccinated crew could still give them covid anyway?
Leave them to try to find someone else who might tell them?

Or do you be smart, and find out who is vaccinated among your staff, and use those people for these types of jobs?

It is a different world when public health concerns are a high priority. And the 'right' to keep your vax status confidential is of a lesser importance than that.

Girl Scout cookie sales are getting hit with inflation and the same supply-chain problems that have sometimes left supermarket shelves empty during the pandemic. At stake is the roughly $800 million total that cookie sales raise each year, accounting for about 70 percent of local councils’ budgets. The bottleneck is production delays at Little Brownie Bakers in Louisville, Ky., which supplies cookies to 75 of the 111 councils. Some Scout leaders are canvassing supply centers looking for boxes, and those lucky enough to snag them are sharing with other councils under the “Girl Scout Law.” At the same time, some customers are venting their frustration at the pint-size vendors over a price hike per box from $4 to $5 or $6. More cookie sales have shifted online during the pandemic, and they’ve remained steady at just under 200 million boxes, the organization says. (Wall Street Journal — subscription)

Mortality is not the only concern though. There are also issues of missed school time, childcare complications due to illness/quarantine, hospitalizations , MIS-C and Long Covid. All JMO.

COVID-19 Cases and Hospitalizations Surge Among Children

I'm generally seeing a death rate of Covid in under 18s of 0.01%
https://www.aap.org/en/pages/2019-n...hildren-and-covid-19-state-level-data-report/

This seems to higher than for varicella (chicken pox) (CFR 1/100,000 = 0.001%), which is routinely vaccinated against in the US.

Montana mice may hold secret to virus spillover

Well, what the heck? University of Montana research on mice, and transmission of hantavirus to humans is a big deal now, in regards to how Coronavirus transmits from bats to humans. Interesting.
