Coronavirus COVID-19 - Global Health Pandemic #112

When her school closed down in March 2020, Chimére Sweeney, an English teacher in Baltimore, thought she’d return to her students once the U.S. got a handle on the new SARS-CoV-2 virus. But “life had a different plan” when she got Covid shortly after — and then never recovered, she said.

At first, Sweeney developed only muscle aches. By the second week, she started having panic attacks, blurry vision, constipation and partial hearing loss. Half of her face would freeze “like concrete.” She forgot phone numbers and addresses and she developed a stutter. Within a month after getting infected, she lost 30 pounds.

“I was told that after two weeks I would be better,” Sweeney, now 42, said. “But my two weeks never came.”...
That is beyond sad. :( I hope medical science can figure out how to cure long Covid so people like Chimere can go back to enjoying life.

This is the most tragic paragraph in the article you linked…

Meanwhile, experts fear that the Trump administration’s extreme cuts in federal spending may undermine long Covid research efforts, which could further delay the discovery of therapies. Just last month, President Donald Trump terminated the Health and Human Services Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Long COVID.

This report isn't about Covid, but I think measles is going to be a problem for the foreseeable future. IIRC, my four siblings and I got the MMR vaccine in August 1962 when we had back-to-school physicals. While there might not be a lot of cases now, if children don't get vaccinated, the disease will proliferate. I don't think cod liver oil or massive doses of Vitamin A are the answer.

As a child in the 50’s I had regular measles that’s going around now, but not mumps or Rubella. Because of that, a number of years ago my doctor gave me the MMR vaccination. I wonder if adults who didn’t ever have the measles (or mumps or rubella) before the vaccine came out around 1968 might want to ask their doctor about it.

I too got the MMR vax in the 60s . At the time, I think it was believed that it was a one-time-only shot, but now I'm reading that a second shot increases the effectiveness from low 90s % to 97%. I think folks who got the MMR once, are being recommended to consider a second dose. It's on my list to ask my doctor.

Kennedy [clip]: There are adverse events from the vaccine. It does cause deaths every year. It causes all the illnesses that measles itself cause, encephalitis and blindness, etc., and so people ought to be able to make that choice for themselves.

My doctor recently ordered a titer test to see if I had antibodies since original vaccines were prior to 1968, I remember having measles as a child but no details

I know this is a Covid discussion, but the local measles case hit too close to home. I've been to the restaurant in downtown Rochester and see a glaucoma specialist in the outpatient medical building of the huge Henry Ford Hospital complex. I'll be watching for updates on more cases of measles after exposure to this patient.

:(

Federal health officials said Tuesday they are pulling back $11.4 billion in COVID-19-related funds for state and local public health departments and other health organizations throughout the nation.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is over, and HHS will no longer waste billions of taxpayer dollars responding to a non-existent pandemic that Americans moved on from years ago,” the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement
.

The statement said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expects to recover the money beginning 30 days after termination notices, which began being sent out on Monday.

5 high-level CDC officials are leaving in the latest turmoil for the public health agency

The heads of five of them are stepping down, and that follows three other departures in recent weeks. This means close to a third of the agency’s top management is leaving or left recently.

The departures — described as retirements — were not announced publicly.

The announcements come a day after the White House announced it is nominating Susan Monarez to be CDC director.

There really aren't words or emojis to express how I feel about this. Primal scream of rage might do.

I hope the “retirees” speak out.

I don't normally wish for karma that harms others, but that's what I find myself wishing for now.

RFK Jr has promoted vitamin A for measles outbreak. Guess what…

Doctors treating people hospitalized as part of a measles outbreak in Texas and New Mexico have also found themselves facing another problem: vitamin A toxicity.

At Covenant Children’s Hospital in Lubbock, near the outbreak’s epicenter, several patients have been found to have abnormal liver function on routine lab tests, a probable sign that they’ve taken too much of the vitamin, according to Dr. Lara Johnson, pediatric hospitalist and chief medical officer for Covenant Health-Lubbock Service Area.

The hospitalized children with the toxicity were all unvaccinated.

So... it's better to OD your kid on vitamins, but not get them vaccinated? Did I get that right? smh

This is sounding like the Ivermectin cure for Covid IMO. Don't get the vaccine but take something that won't protect you. And in the case of Vitamin A... it harms your liver. Brilliant!

Did someone say "Ivermectin?" How timely--posted just this evening:

And now any chance of there being a treatment developed that could help my/my son's/many people's current long Covid is gone, as well as any medications to help prevent it in the first place.

are any of you getting measles shots? Pretty sure I was given the dead and the live shots a child and should not need another shot but I have seen advice that some people should get a booster...
