I kinda sorta "understand"the ideas behind America First and isolationism, but why is the WHO supposed to be shunned? (if anyone knows)

Here are some articles discussing the situation. They may shed some light on the subject of the withdrawal from the WHO.

First I've heard of this "two-fer". This is great news!

there are some new tools to help this respiratory virus season: over-the-counter tests that can identify whether an illness is Covid-19 or influenza.

The tests are available for purchase at most pharmacies or online and allow patients to learn what may be making them sick without needing to make an appointment at a clinic or wait in line.

The tests won’t check for every respiratory virus, but they mark the first time the public can test for flu at home. The tests use self-collected nasal swabs, with results ready within 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the type of test

I saw these dual covid-flu test kits at our Krogers grocery store in the pharmacy section last October. Not sure how much they were selling for.

What rock have I been hiding under??? Apparently the FDA approved it ~1 year ago!

I'd love to hear from someone that's used the combo test to hear what they think. :)

I recently used a Covid/Influenza A & B/RSV combo test, and it was great. Let me know that my recent illness was influenza type B. The tests are sold for a few euros each in my country. The one I used is called "Fluorecare" and is made in China. I don't know if the FDA would approve this particular inexpensive test -- guessing not.

Steve Martin says that Martin Short and Maya Rudolph have tested positive for Covid after attending the "Saturday Night Live" 50th anniversary special on Sunday.

"Maya had Covid. Marty has Covid. I wonder why? The SNL 50th Covid curse is real," Martin posted to Instagram on Thursday, along with a photo of the "Bridesmaids" star and his “Only Murders in the Building” co-star star sharing a kiss at the star-studded special...

I wish Steve Martin hadn't called it a "curse" though -- that makes it sound unexpected and mere "bad luck". Rather, transmission of contagious, asymptomatic/mildly symptomatic diseases should be expected when crowds gather, especially when there are lots of projecting voices such as shouting or singing or acting or giving speeches. I think it's more a "miracle" if that was the *only* COVID transmission that happened at their event. Time for public figures to recognize that and help support the public also doing so. What with governmental alerts and advice now being removed or likely to be so, it's now up to individuals to keep pandemic awareness and caution in the news. IMO.

Unbelievable, Steve. You blame it on a CURSE?!?! At first I had only seen the headline "Steve Martin blames ‘SNL 50th COVID curse’ after Martin Short and Maya Rudolph test positive". I hadn't yet seen or read about the kiss. Then I scroll down and see the kiss... and that Maya HAD Covid, and (now) Marty HAS Covid. It was NO masks and a KISS on the LIPS, Martin!! Jeez. This is why we couldn't get Covid under control in the beginning, IMO. Some people just either weren't believing in it, or not thinking logically about it. smh

Between Feb. 2 and Feb. 8, about 3.4% of those who died in the state between Feb. 2 and Feb. 8 had influenza listed as a cause of death, Grant Boyken, a spokesman for the agency told The Sacramento Bee via email. Coronavirus-related deaths accounted for 1.3% of deaths in California in the same time frame, according to the state health department’s weekly respiratory illness report.

I don’t know if he edited his post, but what I see what Steve Martin wrote is that “Maya came down with Covid, (she did NOT come to the show with it!) Marty came down with it.” and then he does say “The SNL 50th Covid curse is real.”

To quote the article regarding the cancelation of the flu vaccine meeting:

“The timing of this meeting aligns with the six-month lead time typically required for vaccine manufacturing to ensure vaccines are ready for distribution in the fall -- before peak flu season hits in the United States.

"I can't think of any rational reason to do this other than to throw a hand grenade into vaccine production," Pavia said. "The impact is going to be felt in terms of our ability to reduce flu hospitalizations and flu deaths."

No surprise there. Chaos is the name of the game. Glad they had the courage to consult with WHO despite orders not to.

And this season (2024/2025) has been the worst in the last 10 yrs (I don't have data prior to that). And we're not even through with this season, and just look at where we are on the chart compared to the next worse season (2017/2018).

So, if you think this season is bad... just wait till 2025/2026 flu season. It ain't gonna be pleasant, folks. :(
