I have a good story to share. I just spoke to my Dad. He is 90 years old. he went to the Safeway today to get groceries and the lady in front of him kept forgetting things and holding up the line. My Dad didn't complain and was friendly towards her. Well, when my Dad started to pay his grocery bill, the cashier informed him that the lady had paid an extra $50 dollars to go towards my Dad's grocery bill. I thought that was pretty cool and a nice story amidst all the bad news.
This just warms my heart!! What a wonderful gesture of kindness (on both your Dad's part and the woman in front of him)

Just folks preparing for the worst.....It is no fun to go three+ weeks without electricity, banks being closed, etc. and all the business's in your area only accepting cash......This is common knowledge in Texas hurricane, tornado, natural disaster, country.....moo

so are people actually withdrawing money?

Mayor Goodman Critical Of Media's Coronavirus Coverage

The denial factor is going strong in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, venues and shows are being cancelled left and right. A big sign at the bank, "Talk to us about reducing your mortgage payments, today" they will work with people who get laid off due to Coronavirus.

The disconnect is mindblowing.

Texas Underground Rumor - There are starting to be runs on Credit Unions and Banks with people withdrawing large amounts of cash in 50s, 20s, 10s, and 5s.......moo
Texas is big on cash transactions. Even under normal circumstances.

What will weddings be like? “You may rub shoulders with your bride” or “you may fist pump your bride”.

I predict all weddings cancelled in the next few weeks if we are headed in the same direction as Italy.

Starbucks....no I can't, I just can't..They know my drink by heart...I can't give it up. This is a most seriously issue. I need help immediately. What can I order on line to make my Starbucks at home. I'll give up toilet paper for Starbucks.
What’s your drink? Maybe we can find instructions online!

I don’t think this is happening and if it is, I think it’s just people wanting to have cash on hand for their own personal comfort.

This is not a financial crisis. The market is down because investors know many sectors will take a hit due to people not going out - it is unfortunate but bad things happen, companies that focus on travel and recreation will be less valuable while consumer goods and home entertainment companies will do great. The Fed just pumped $1.5 trillion into Treasuries. After 2008 all systemically important financial institutions are required to have enormous reserves that are audited constantly by the Federal Reserve.

There isn’t and never will be a run on the banks. That’s one thing you DON’T have to worry about. They have more money than they know what to do with and much of it has to be liquid. I say this as someone who spent the last financial crisis (2008 - 2015) representing investment banks in complying with regulatory investigations.
Glad to hear this, although I did take quite a chunk out of the bank yesterday.

I don’t know. I was depressed for much more than a day. That was a tragedy that hurt most of us for a long time. No one was watching anything in the theaters that was scary or about tragedies. People were very impacted for a long time. The fear gradually changed over time to acceptance of the new normal I guess.
Even now. All you have to do is hear about another firefighter who has died from the exposure. Or visit Ground Zero in NYC. The museum brings it all back.

Omg this thread is movvvinggggg fassttt!

“Just arrived at JFK from Paris. Zero screening, testing or even questions related to coronavirus (and the Global Entry scanner spit out someone else’s entry receipt for me, and the guy behind me got mine, and so on)

My wife went through regular customs and was asked if she’d been to China, but that was it. No one asked me a single question, and any other “screening” was nonexistent.”

And how great your dad is able to shop at 90! Hope he’s safe!

Why would one need to withdraw their money from the banks ?
In my case we just had fraud with our debit card and were waiting for our new card to be active. And I was out of my sugar free candy.
