SAME. It's 4:11am here and I have to be up for work at 8. I am WIRED. My mom was diagnosed with cancer this week and the surgery to remove half of her lung is scheduled for next week. She is about to be 76 and I'm just... weirdly disassociating yet completely anxiety ridden. Hugs to you and your mom.

Oh man! Sorry to hear that friend!! Sending love your way.

Thanks. I realize I’d probably be much more positive if I wasn’t high risk and if my brothers and mother weren’t either.

Also, I love to hike and run. Even if I survived if I had permanent lung damage, what would I do? I don’t think I could live without exercise. I need it for my stress. I need nature and sweat.

Already I get to a certain level of fitness and plateau and can’t go farther due to my asthma. And nowadays when I get a mild cold or severe allergies it’s causing asthma that used be much easier to shake, but is now hanging on.

I can’t imagine getting an illness like this.

Mostly I’m very worried about my human family that depend on me and that I think could not survive happily without me. If I didn’t have loved ones who need my care and support I would still be scared about dying a terrible death in isolation in a sterile place away from family. But I wouldn’t at all be as scared as I am now. I don’t want them to be without me.

Please take the recommendations about avoiding this disease to heart and try to remain calm. You are going to be okay.

Strong willed people like you have an advantage. Remember that. That will make you a survivor.

The other night I got an emergency alert on my phone. One of those loud ones like they do for Amber Alerts.

I jumped out of bed all foggy thinking it was something to do with CV.

It was a weather alert.

—-

This has consumed me day and night to the point I can’t focus on anything else. Nothing.

Yeah. It’s been hard. But I must admit that working is a reprieve to this for me. Being able to complete a motion or draft a declaration or talking to my clients gets me out of my head. They need me to be my best for them.

That’s really encouraging to hear! Thanks so much.

Thank you - as my mom would say "it is what it is". Going to get through it - we have to!

I hope everything goes back to normal in two or three weeks. I have my doubts that will happen.

Does a federal state of emergency supersede the US Constitution? I hope not.
I don't think things will go back to normal in a matter of weeks. And you are probably right about the concern of a defendants Sixth Amendment right to a speedy trial being violated.
I do wonder about the jurors though. I'm sure many of them don't want to be sitting shoulder to shoulder with strangers in a courtroom.

I do believe we are better prepared to prevent the spread thanks to lessons learned via 9/11. I understand the test kits were rejected because of a belief they were too fallible. In 2014, the Ebola cases didn't spread thanks to the containment initiatives at UNMC and other U.S. initiatives. I'm not about to panic because I have no reason to panic. JMO

I hope you’re right. I know we have smart medical experts in the country and each state can work hard to stop the spread and reduce complications and death. Trying to stay positive while taking it seriously is surely the best course.

Have you started thinking/considering online conferencing? Is this an option? I realize you may have to be in court, but as far as meetings, etc., go, are you able to move to a more electronically-based platform?

Thank you. I did not take a "peek" at Tricia's rules. I actually read it thoroughly.
With respect.

Kali - I suggest that you take a peek at Tricia's post about the rules in this thread. The subject of downplaying peoples concerns and discrediting information is touched upon. @Amonet also has a wonderful post a page or so back. My personal opinion is: if you think a person is panicking, is the appropriate response "calm down"? That never works. Not in my experience at least.

Anyway, this is just a general rant and not to anyone in particular - I have been seeing so many people are having a really difficult time wrapping their head around what is going on. Instead of preparing or taking precautions, some dig their heels in and practically deny there is a global pandemic happing right now. Understandable - none of us have had to deal with this before. As someone mentioned a few posts ago, it also makes my BP rise. Comparing this to the flu doesn't make sense. It's not the flu.

I live in NYC and I took a walk earlier. Currently, businesses are only allowed to fill to 50% capacity. I walked past numerous bars that were PACKED. There were/are people acting like this is party time. I don't get it.

Boiling it down: It's winter and your child has a wet head. Not all kids get sick but do you send them out without a jacket or hat? You don't want to take that chance, you take precautions because you don't want them to get sick. If kids in your child's class are coughing and some are currently known to be sick, do you wish their parents kept them home? What if the parent of the sick child brushed you off and told you that your child will be fine, don't panic. If your child gets the flu and has a fever - would you send him to school knowing they might infect one or more of the other kids?

Personally, I don't think taking precautions is panic. Preparing for something that ultimately may have a better outcome than what you prepared for is pretty smart IMO. I was also living in NYC during 9/11. Afterwards, we were all told to make "go bags" in the case that something like that were to happen again. We still get reminders that having a "go bag" is a good idea for anything that might pop up - just in case. Is that panicking? IMO, I don't think so. It's pretty smart if you ask me.

Funny thing about media and the thought that media is pushing panic: I see panic coming from the media that is accusing others of pushing panic. Weird how that works.

My mom is 87 and she successfully beat breast cancer for the second time in her life recently.

I'm worried that she will get this virus even if I manage to talk her into a self quarantine. If I go out and get supplies I could unwittingly bring the virus back home with me and cause her to get infected.

Oh yeah. There are a lot of things I can remotely. But evidentiary hearings and depositions I can’t.

It’s 2:25 AM. Work never “sleeps” these days as it’s an acceptable time to reach out from overseas.

Interesting question.

Edit: I deleted the rest since I know nothing ;)

Coronavirus: Supermarkets tell public to be considerate and stop panic buying

British supermarkets are urging the public to be considerate to others and stop panic buying as the number of UK coronavirus cases rises.

Empty shelves, especially in the loo roll and dried pasta aisles, have prompted a joint letter from British Retail Consortium (BRC) members urging consumers to work together to ensure there is enough food for the UK.

As further restrictions are placed on the public to stop the spread of COVID-19, retailers said they are working "round the clock" to help customers get the items they need, the BRC said.

She sounds like a super cool person and a warrior.

For weeks I’ve read this thread while having my morning coffee. I find myself trembling as I’m reading this morning. It’s finally sinking in that it’s really happening.

I spoke to my father in law yesterday, he lives in Spain where he is having treatment for lung cancer. He is now on lockdown and may leave the house only to attend the doctor, hospital, garage for fuel and limited supermarket trips for supplies. He was told that from Sunday evening he will no longer be allowed to walk his dog.
My parents are visiting Australia, they arrived just hours before they introduced quarantining all arrivals.

I wish my family were not so spread out around the world at this time.

I’m so grateful for this thread, thank you to everyone that’s keeping it up to date. It allows me to follow what’s happening in one place.
