Are you going to self quarantine and if so for how long?

I have been semi-quarantining since last week- no restaurants, shoes, movies or gatherings for events or with friends, sending family to the stores instead of going in myself. I’ve reduced time spent at the office although my office is a room within a converted house and there are three other attorneys and one other business in the house in different offices. And we mostly keep our doors shut. But one other attorney always comes to my office to talk and I did catch a horrible cold from her once.

I also had no choice but to go to court this week, and the doctor. I got my hair cut after court too when I saw there were only two hair stylists in there and no one else. But unfortunately when I was getting my hair done a man came in, coughed without coverings his mouth, and a worker came in and was sweeping and coughed about three feet from my face without covering her mouth. Hard.

I feel I made a mistake with that.

Now I’m trying to arrange court call for some future cases but there are many coming up that I cannot do with courtcall because I have to physically be there to examine evidence and present evidence.

I’m hoping the courts shut down like some have. But I’m faced with some real problems if I can’t make money litigating for the next several months. So that’s adding greatly to my stress.

I have asthma so I’m super high risk of severe illness and death if I contract this. But being self-employed I will eventually be screwed if I can’t fully work.

We are living in some weird time where no one trusts the media (IMO - this usually means TV media) yet still looks to media to tell them what to think. Trying to rationalize that makes my brain hurt o_O

Err on the side of caution. What can happen, people laugh at you after a danger passes and tell you that you over prepared? Who cares. If someone uses that as a "got ya" moment - something is "off" with them.
It is safe to assume that more people are sick than what is reported - by any media. I know I have gotten a flu or a cold or any number of ailments that I didn't report to get recorded into some end of year official count.

I’m trying to explain to my dog that we need to ration dog treats. He’s not understanding.

Much the same conversation here, with a semi-circle of cats waiting expectantly for their second cube of freeze dried chicken.
I feel I won’t be able to relax until tomorrow’s order of food, treats, kibble and litter is safely delivered. The cats are in agreement with me on this.

My daughter works for the courts. We were just talking today about the fact that courts have shut down in several states, but So Cal courts are still open. She works in felony court where often jury are seated. Too many people IMO. (she is my baby girl ;)) I'm with you, I hope they will close for a few weeks and then reevaluate at that time.

Thanks for giving us a look at your life and how it's not easy to try and protect yourself from this terrible virus and still survive financially.

Tough choices for everyone. What do you do to protect kids? Lock them up for a year in their bedroom.

This is not going to be easy.

My personal opinion is: if you think a person is panicking, is the appropriate response "calm down"? That never works. Not in my experience at least.

True! Thanks for the great post. :) I think most of us are prepared, but not panicking...at least speaking for myself.

I wish I could sleep it’s 7:47am here and I haven’t slept at all. I’m worried sick and stressed out my mind about this nightmare and my Mum’s surgery.
When is her surgery greg?

Testing has barely started in the U.S. so you won’t see any mimicking unless testing gets widespread. But as it’s started to increase a little, the confirmed cases have definitely increased. IIRC there were barely 1000 last weekend and now about 3000, most of the increase in the past few days.

What is the R 0 number for this virus? I don’t fully know what the term means but I heard it means how contagious it is. How many people one person can be assumed to infect. Like the Spanish flu had an R 0 of about 1.4-2.8. The number is accurate if there’s no containment and no prior immunity due to vaccine or many people having had the disease already in the area. COVID19 would have an R0 number because it’s new. There’s no immunity.

“R0 tells you the average number of people who will catch a disease from one contagious person. It specifically applies to a population of people who were previously free of infection and haven’t been vaccinated. If a disease has an R0 of 18, a person who has the disease will transmit it to an average of 18 other people, as long as no one has been vaccinated against it or is already immune to it in their community.”

Tell your Mom we’re thinking of her! I forget what day it is, but I know it’s this week.

This virus could effect our criminal justice system.

If there is a major disruption to trials, defendants could claim that their Sixth Amendment right to a speedy trial was violated. JMO

IMO I don't think that will hold water if it's only for 2 weeks (other states are saying until the end of March) and when a state of emergency has been declared by the federal government.

Dear Dixie,

I’m very sorry about the death in your family.

I don’t remember the Tylenol, Advil part? I haven’t seen that? Was it in one of your infinite medical videos (lol)?

You are busy so making a note to get this very important clarification on Advil and Tylenol linked.

I'm just popping in and somebody may have answer this already. Yes both doctor Campbell and Dr Sch.. have discussed it in their videos that it is good to have a fever. It is the body's way of dealing with it. For an adult, they said do not take an antipyretic. That is different than children though. Children is an exception. I don't have these time these days to go back and find the exact ones that had that information. Hopefully another poster has answered this question for you also.
