CT - Hartford CT - 1st COVID19 Patient had previously gone to church with 100s of members - contact notification happening now. 21 COVID19 cases in CT a/o 3/15/2020.

COVID-19 patient from Hartford went to church function with 100s of people

HARTFORD, Conn. — Officials at UConn Health in Farmington said Sunday that the first patient to have a positive test for COVID-10 has been treated and released to home isolation.

The patient, a man in his 50s, was discharged from the hospital and sent home, where he will be isolated. FOX61 has learned the patient attended a church function with hundreds of people in last few days. This morning, Mayor Luke Bronin said they have started contact tracing. [BBM]

Officials said all precautions were followed from the time the patient arrived at the ER to the time he was discharged. He spent only one night in the hospital.

Officials said the man had no known contact with an individual who was already known to carry the virus.

Gov. Lamont announced Saturday that the state's total number of positive coronavirus cases is now at 20 and number that grew to 21 by Sunday.

In a release, Lamont confirms that as of 5 p.m., nine additional Connecticut residents tested positive -- including the first cases that have been detected in Hartford and New Haven Counties.

That number did not last long, as late last night, UConn Health confirmed its first case of COVID-19, bringing the total up to 21.

Chyron on CNN alternating 2 contradictory quotes:
“Trump: Relax...we’re doing great”
”Dr. Fauci: The worst is still ahead.”

I think context of quotes is important. And for people who don't have time, or the inclination, to take into account the big picture, then just go with the Dr.Faui of the NIH or the Director-General of WHO, etc. I wish the media on both sides of the political spectrum would focus on the issues at hand instead of sensationalist journalism. MOO.

Just to illustrate the stupidity of some people: I belong to a group on SM related to a certain illness. Someone asked if this virus would affect this particular illness. A complete moron actually posted just last night that this all fake news and not to be concerned. I almost came unglued! I had to block him before I went mental. How many others have this opinion? Probably more than we'd like to know!

Speculation, imo.
It would not surprise me if in the next 48 hours they will enforce self quarantine in the US, perhaps especially California.
I just heard on the NBC nightly news that the governor of Calif. is asking all over 65 to self isolate and know that I also read it earlier today but can't link it right now. ETA-I googled. Here is a link. Coronavirus: Gov. Newsom orders all bars closed; Californians over 65 should self-isolate at home – San Bernardino Sun

Fl. gov. DeSantis in press conf. now-
Big problem w/ spring breakers on beaches in
large numbers and packed bars and restaurants.
But he won't make any changes til he talks to CDC on Monday. He thinks CDC will make suggestions to deal with this.

Well a case was just confirmed in clark county,ky where I live.I just went to the store today for meds so I'm really worried.I've had a transplant and have an autoimmune illness so it would be a disaster for me if I got sick.
I appreciate your concern. But stressing about it is unhealthy. Luckily since you are probably under doctors care after your transplant, they will keep close with any concerns or symptoms you might have, hugs

MOO

No surprise there. Taken out of context again. Why not show the whole quote in reference to what he’s talking about, when he says relax, we’re doing great. They are talking about different things.

This is the hospital my daughter was working at until recently. She was accepted for PA school at MUSC which was to begin in May. I pray for all those on the front lines of this.

Omg it just hit me.

These young folks who are working in the (Colorado) dispensaries as budtenders, some who may not be taking this seriously as I’ve experienced...I can’t believe it took so long for this to hit me:

They are dispensing medical weed to tons of cancer patients, elderly, and others with health issues!!

Omg.

Colorado dispensaries need to get on the ball with this.

Shudder.

Twitter (Video from State of The Union Interview)
OH Gov. Mike DeWine: "It would not surprise me at all if schools did not open again this year."

No, no, no, please no. Young people need to be in school. They need to be doing experiments and group projects, they need that in-the-moment, face-to-face instruction and social learning. It will be too sad if students don't get to come back, however good the reason :(

ETA - some students are lucky to have parents who are teachers, or parents wealthy enough to hire teachers to work with them. What about the rest?

CT - New COVID Case Announced 3/15/2020:

ECSU faculty member tests positive for coronavirus

Quotes from article:

Officials at Eastern Connecticut State University said Sunday that a faculty member tested positive for the coronavirus.

Officials said, "Federal health privacy law prohibits the University from releasing the name of the person involved.
We ask all students, faculty, and staff to continue to self-monitor their own health while practicing social distancing and healthy personal hygiene as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html"

The school is closed through April 5.

Is the university closed for all staff or just for faculty and students? At my university, only faculty and students are off campus but staff and administrators are at work during the "closure." Just wondering.

NY - >300 cases and 5 deaths a/o 3/15/2020

https://nypost.com/2020/03/15/nyc-t...&tpcc=nypbreaking&mpweb=755-8692905-719837703

Quotes from article:

Five New York City residents have now died of the coronavirus, as the number of Big Apple cases blew past 300, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Sunday.

De Blasio announced three new deaths in an afternoon press briefing at City Hall.

The newly deceased were identified as a 78-year-old man, a 56-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman.

That’s in addition to an 82-year-old woman who died late Friday and a 79-year-old woman who succumbed early Sunday.

Each of the five victims had at least one underlying health condition — including diabetes and heart disease — that undermined their health battles.

“I am very, very concerned that what we see [now] is the rapid spread of this disease,” said de Blasio. “We’ve never been through anything like this. We’re all trying to make sense of this.”

A total of 329 cases have now been confirmed across the five boroughs, representing nearly half of the 729 cases statewide.

The first known state death came last week when a 65-year-old Rockland County man’s life was claimed by the pandemic.

Hizzoner additionally announced that he would order the suspension of elective surgery beginning Monday in city hospitals in an effort to ease the stress on the overloaded health-care system.
