I had a horrible feeling we would all be personally affected in some way or another. Watching this virus build in China late December into January I didn't like what I saw coming. It's not just the deaths and the destruction of healthcare systems but the impact on the global economy, mass job losses, crime, breakdown in society. Nobody is ready for this coming storm. This is just the first wave, the second could be much worse. The numbers coming out of certain countries are not accurate for a number of reasons, mainly to reduce panic and lack of testing. Some people I know are only concerned because football games have been called off or because they can't go to the pub for a drink. They and many others are in for one heck of a horrendous shock.

I share your concerns! It will be interesting to see what happens from an economic stand point after all is said and done. Due to the fact that this is a worldwide event, I believe we’ll see some unique approaches in an attempt to revitalize the world economy.

I just hope we get to that point sooner rather than later.

Alberta

State of emergency. Number of cases is 56. City run facilities are closed. Community transmission a fact. Rec centres and library closed. Transit, shelters, and grocery stores open. Casinos are open. Businesses are closing. Work places are encouraged to support work-from-home. All classes canceled until the end of the school year, staff still working. Child care closed.

Truck drivers exempt from quarantine, unlike cross borders travellers who are asked to self-isolate for 14 days. Important to keep supply chain open.

Post-secondary students told to clear out all their belongings by the end of the week.

Two patients in intensive care - both travellers in their 60s.

Hunkered down with the cats and working from home even more than usual, as all in-person meetings are cancelled for the foreseeable future.
Cooking - might as well do something productive with my free time. And spending a lot more time in the garden, encouraging the fruit and veggies to grow.
One thing I have to change - I need to stop having the news on in the background as I work. Right now, it’s really not good for my mental health.

NJ Statewide Curfew

New Jerseyans should not leave their homes from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., as Gov. Phil Murphy announced an extraordinary action of recommending a statewide curfew for his 9 million residents to attempt to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

All casinos, restaurants, bars, movie theaters and gyms must shut down at 8 p.m.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced similar measures for their states.

The virus caused the death of at least two New Jerseyans and infected close to 100 people in the state as of Sunday, according to Depar.

In New Jersey, close to 100 people tested positive for COVID-19 and at least two people died as of Sunday.

“I saw too many videos last night of packed bars, people passing bottles drinking from the same bottle, literally globbed on top of each other,” Murphy said Sunday, after saying he was considering the curfew. “In short of shutting the entire state down, clipping establishments by a number of hours each night in particular we believe will have a meaningful, positive outcome in terms of social distancing.”

I'm going to assemble Shepherd's Pie for tomorrow. I make it for St. Patrick's Day every year.

If you're not leaving the house, I hereby declare this an official Pajama Day :D

Here's a tip for a fast moving thread. .
If you missed a link, but see a quote from the link, simply copy the quote, and "google" it. It will find the original article it came from. IMO

'The time is now to act': COVID-19 spreading in Canada with no known link to travel, previous cases

''Widespread community transmission of COVID-19 is likely underway in Canada, experts say, warning that Canadians need to heed advice from public health officials and do their part to prevent it from getting out of control.

Community transmission is the spread of an illness with no known link to travel or previously confirmed cases, which can signal a growing number of cases going unreported across the country.

Dr. Allison McGeer, an infectious diseases specialist at Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital who worked on the front lines of the SARS epidemic in 2003, believes there is no doubt it is already happening in Canada. ''

"We can't be overly surprised that that is going to happen if it hasn't already, based on the fact of what we've seen in the United States in particular," he said. "We are seeing obvious community transmission in multiple regions of the U.S. now."

Makes no dif to me. I still think this is a huge risk, but unavoidable.

Honestly I think they are just speeding up the process for the inmates. Reminder the article is talking about a jail, not a prison. So those who would have gone free, just go free sooner. Those who needed to be sent to prison, are sent to prison sooner. I don't think they are willy-nilly letting random dangerous people out. But of course this is MOO.

On the today show this morning, the on -air hosts and guests were sitting very close, side-by-side.
Why aren’t they demonstrating social distancing? If viewers tune in and see tv hosts sitting 6 feet apart maybe it would make an impression on viewers.

We’re doing Irish Guinness Beef Stew tomorrow! We planned ahead and bought ingredients a while ago. Glad we did b/c there’s no beef left at the store.

Good morning to you...I'm trying to keep a routine similar to before - exercise, yoga (at home), reading books and watching favorite tv shows.

Also, my son told me that the grandkids' school district, which closed 2 weeks ago over a bombardment of requests from parents, has yet to provide lessons or directions on how to proceed with their education. I am trying to gather sites and lessons to help him provide something for them (3rd grade and 1st grade).
Once a teacher...always a teacher. :)

Also much Facebook, texting and Face Timing with family and friends, especially that grandson in Hoboken.

How about you @Trudie ?
