The UK Governmental presentation this morning (watching BBC) is far more cohesive and rational than the US presentations.

AND they are clearly practicing social isolation by doing individual presentations. The US is not practicing what they preach forcing all the particpants to crowd together behind a speaker at a podium.

I mean what will we do if Dr. Faucci becomes ill because of someone on that podium who is SARS-CoV-2 positive, whether they know it or not!

I've just watched the whole thing, all 3 of them (Boris Johnson, Chris Whitty & Patrick Vallance) are quite calming. I feel reassured.

LOL. Quoting the Newport OR police FB page:

"It’s hard to believe that we even have to post this,"
"Do not call 9-1-1 just because you ran out of toilet paper. You will survive without our assistance."

The post then pointed out the different methods used throughout history before suggesting other items that could be used in lieu of "your favorite soft, ultra plush two-ply citrus scented tissue."

Among their suggestions: grocery store receipts, newspaper, cloth rags, magazine pages, cotton balls and even leaves.

"Be resourceful. Be patient. There is a TP shortage. This too shall pass. Just don’t call 9-1-1. We cannot bring you toilet paper," the post concluded.

I thought this was somewhat appropos ('very appropriate to a particular situation'):

I'd imagine there were few who weren't already doing this.
What does everyone think about reusable grocery bags ?
I know they can be washed... but do germs linger ?

I just got a call from my dentist. My appointment next week is cancelled due to coronavirus. No new date yet.
My mother in law got a call as well. Rescheduled tentatively to June 6.
They are donating all their PPE (personal protective equipment) gloves masks etc... to medical and closing the office.

I just told her I choose to believe the Science and you are putting me at risk. She is a firm believer in palm readers etc. I wish we still had the head banging icon.

I would imagine that there are people who are consulting Tarot readers, Ouija boards, crystal balls in an effort to find out how long COVID-19 will last and how bad it might be

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy is calling for the closure of the state's casinos, gyms and movie theaters and strongly discouraging nonessential travel as the Garden State looks to curb the coronavirus outbreak.

Murphy announced the closings on a call with fellow Democratic Govs. Andrew Cuomo of New York and Ned Lamont of Connecticut, who are calling for similar closures in their states as part of a regional response to the virus.

The governors also said they would prohibit gatherings of 50 or more people, lining up with federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations.

They are closing all casinos, gyms and movie theaters at 8 p.m. Monday night.

Restaurants and bars will also close to dine-in patron and can only do delivery and takeout.

"These establishments will be provided a waiver for carry-out alcohol," a news release from Murphy's office said.

The three governors gave no timetable for when things will reopen.

A waiver for carry out alcohol! Did you ever think that would happen?
Ever?
Wow.

If the CDC recommends groups of 50 or less for the next 8/weeks I guess ‘school’s out for summer’?

Our local schools have gone to e-learning as of today. They have until 1pm to check in for attendance purposes and 40 min of instruction from each teacher.

As for us bus drivers, some will be delivering meals for those students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Some will be assisting with sanitizing vehicles. Some will be doing courier work for the schools with regards to students school issued electronic devices needing technical support.

At least that is what I learned as of today.

Coronavirus vaccine test opens with first doses

Today’s milestone marked just the beginning of a series of studies in people needed to prove whether the shots are safe and could work.

Even if the research goes well, a vaccine wouldn’t be available for widespread use for 12 to 18 months, said Dr. Anthony Fauci of the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Also, the beloved PEI Burger Love Contest has been postponed until at least May 15th. My husband is the most bummed about this. But our bank account will be very happy. Participating Island restaurants all create their own hamburger concoction (made from local beef) and for a month, the public can vote on which burger they like to determine a winning restaurant.

New Orleans Police To Bourbon Street Partiers: You're Jeopardizing Public Health | HuffPost

In a now-viral video posted on Twitter, police cars are seen moving slowly through the popular tourist spot and imploring partiers to go home.

“By order of the governor and the mayor, large crowds of people are prohibited from congregating together. Your actions are jeopardizing public health and we are directing you to clear the streets and to go home or back to your hotel. Thank you for your cooperation,” an officer said over a loudspeaker as sirens blare.
