Despite the positive test for COVID-19 from a passenger who had disembarked days earlier, thousands of people were allowed to leave a cruise ship in Miami on Sunday without undergoing medical screening.

The former passenger got off the MSC Meraviglia in Miami on March 8 after an eight-day Caribbean cruise, leaving 103 passengers and the ship’s crew aboard for the next voyage. Four days later, after the ship had sailed with thousands of additional new passengers aboard, the Public Health Agency of Canada informed Broward-based MSC Cruises that the former passenger had tested positive.

Anyone know how many other cruise ships are just powering along, enjoying the salt air, currently in all of our oceans? I'm afraid to look it up.

I don't understand what these predictions are based upon. It seems a bit exaggerated to me.

Right now, WORLDWIDE, it is estimated there are 100,ooo cases of Covid19. So how is the tiny UK going to end up with 8 million hospitalised?

Coronavirus quarantine hotel in China collapses: Live updates
"The World Health Organization (WHO) called the spread of the virus "deeply concerning" as a wave of countries reported on Saturday their first cases of the COVID-19 disease, which has now killed nearly 3,500 people and infected more than 100,000 across 92 nations and territories."

I'll bet it was a real wake up call! Has she had any contact with the lawyer? I hope not.
No contact but she did acknowledge that I was right for the past 2 months....I would have taken great satisfaction in that had it not been such a tragedy.

Trudeau said Canadians abroad need to come ASAP "while they still can," and will need to self-isolate for 14 days regardless of symptoms.
What? How will they travel home without infecting 100’s more?

At a minimum I would hope her husband could be tested (and be SARS-CoV-2 negative) so he can be there for the birth. I just can't understand banning a woman's support person during birth
I worry about pregnant women. In a couple of months when hospitals are overrunwith coronavirus patients will they tell low risk (or, God forbid, all) women to birth at home? Should there be emergency online midwife classes?

I don't post much but I've been following the thread since Wuhan and I just want to thank everyone for their post and the links keeping us all up to date. I also love to hear how all of you are coping in your little personal corners of the world.

My 10 year old daughter is a type one diabetic, so prepping has been difficult except for hand sanitizer and alcohol wipes, Lol we already had plenty of that on hand.

I spend most of February trying to up her insulin quantity so we would have a little emergency stockpile. Her doctor was on board, but of coarse the insurance company was not. They did end up almost doubling the quantity of her fast acting insulin though so that was a huge win.

As of now we have enough fast acting insulin to last approximately until June!

Her long acting (24 hour) insulin will last us until almost May.

We should have enough needles to last approximately 45 days

I couldn't place a refill order for her CGM (continuous Glucose Monitor) until March 13th due to insurance. So it won't ship out until March 20th and then will take about 7 more days to arrive. My fingers are crossed that delivery services won't be shut down before then. I'm pretty sure it's coming via fed ex.

Of coarse if it doesn't come we can go back to finger pokes but the CGM is truly a life saver. My daughter's blood sugar dropped to 44 a couple weeks ago over night and I never would of known if her CGM hadn't set off it's alarm.

We have lots of Skittles, starburst, cookies and guclose tabs handy to treat lows, but only a few zero carbs things.

My husband had to return back to work today after being off for the last 4 days ( regular days off). I told my daughter that we now need to be really careful getting too close to dad when he is back home. No more hugs and kisses and even sitting next to him on the couch might not be good. The look on her face was heartbreaking but we just have to be extra careful for her.

What a smart and good mama you are.

That is a good question. I only hope Canada is ready for the influx of Canadians coming home, hope they handle it much better than the U.S. has. Otherwise it will be more travelers trapped for hours in a tiny room together.

EXCLUSIVE notes on Inside Goldman Sachs economic analysis of coronavirus

EXCLUSIVE notes on Inside Goldman Sachs economic analysis of coronavirus - Rose Law Group Reporter

Conclusions of Goldman Sachs Investee call where 1,500 companies dialed in. The key economic takeaways were:

50% of Americans will contract the virus (150m people) as it’s very communicable. This is on a par with the common cold (Rhinovirus) of which there are about 200 strains and which the majority of Americans will get 2-4 per year.

The virus appears to be concentrated in a band between 30-50 degrees north latitude, meaning that like the common cold and flu, it prefers cold weather. The coming summer in the northern hemisphere should help. This is to say that the virus is likely seasonal.

This is what is occupying my mind right now- how accurate were the age bracket statistics out of China? I’m trying to find breakdowns from Italy but can’t find anything. I’m very concerned that there are many more “younger” people with dangerous outcomes than reported out of China.

(I have nothing to back this up- these are just my own fears.)

What the deal is is that those over 60 in impacted nations are being left to die if they present with serious symptoms because all the life saving efforts are going to the younger. That's maybe why the death rate is still much higher for the elderly, in part. And remember, China shut it down with draconian measures not taken anywhere else, publicly.

Except for the Americans, atm, Canada and US integrally connected.

And probably also those flying in private planes.......

Just like in the US. The rules don't apply to the rich

Trudeau to announce additional @Bravo his wife is positive for the virus.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is due to address the nation from self-isolation again Monday after a weekend that saw health officials strengthen their tone on COVID-19 as provinces took more drastic measures to stem the virus‘s spread. News of Trudeau’s press conference, which is scheduled for 1 p.m. E.T., came hours after cabinet ministers left a meeting on Sunday promising big action. Some of those same ministers are set to speak to reporters after Trudeau’s address.

Just finished watching, well done. Godspeed to his wife who he is home with that is infected. He's doing a great job while his wife is infected, and he is in isolation.

I didn't hear any question as to his wife etc... I guess out of respect or did I miss such?

YES. This is a fantastic news conference and I think all of the US should be listening to this.

It's so......refreshingly frank, objective, intelligent, and very very calm.

I am pleased Boris is letting the medical/science experts take the lead in answering relevant questions, rather than himself just waffling on and fluffing it.

Actually impressed for a change! Only time will tell if these decisions are the right ones right now, but they have certainly not been taken lightly.
