This I do not understand: Governors from all states trying to make decisions and COVID laws for their own states. Every state is different and in chaos. Why are there not federal rules that affect and embrace all states. Am I the only one who thinks this form of government is a mess?

They said they've moved from containment to delay, but that there still might be aspects of the containment that would follow over into the delay segment.

They do appear to have stopped giving tests to anyone who isn't hospitalised. But they said today that anyone who's experiencing symptoms, like cough and fever, to stay home *and* for everyone in the house to stay home as well.

There's too much spread now for containment to be viable at this time. I don't think containment would be viable again until the number of community cases drops the other side of the peak, and until new testing comes out with faster test results, serology testing for antibodies, and enough medical staff and labs to have space/time to do all these tests. For now it seems they're going to focus on attempting to treat whatever cases do end up in hospital and reducing spread in the community with social isolation measures.

So that's how it works, even in China. People are not tested until they show symptoms (test doesn't work without symptoms) and then many are sent home because their symptoms seem mild. I recall that some people can have a sudden change from managed at home to high fever and trouble breathing. Some of those make it to hospital and are given care, some make it to hospital and are not given care, some don't make it.

In the White House Conference today, “surface transmission” was about to be discussed when Dr. Fauci interjected to clarify another matter.

The discussion re: “surface transmission” was never resumed. I was very eager to hear where they were going with that.

FILE PHOTO: Cemetery workers and funeral agency workers in protective masks transport a coffin of a person who died from coronavirus disease (COVID-19), into a cemetery in Bergamo, Italy March 16, 2020.

“As the COVID-19 epidemic expands and the disease progresses, these beds are in increasing demand, especially because of the breathing problems the illness can bring. Every time a bed comes free, two anaesthesiologists consult with a specialist in resuscitation and an internal medicine physician to decide who will occupy it.

Age and pre-existing medical conditions are important factors. So is having a family.

"We have to take into account whether older patients have families who can take care of them once they leave the ICU, because they will need help," says Marco Resta, deputy head of Policlinico San Donato's Intensive Care Unit.

Even if there is no chance, he says, you have to "look a patient in the face and say, 'All is well.' And this lie destroys you."

The most devastating medical crisis in Italy since World War Two is forcing doctors, patients and their families to make decisions that Resta, a former military doctor, said he has not experienced even in war. As of Monday, 2,158 people had died and 27,980 been infected by coronavirus in Italy – the second highest number of reported cases and deaths in the world behind China.

Resta says that 50% of those with COVID-19 who are accepted into intensive care units in Italy are dying, compared with a usual mortality rate of 12% to 16% in such units nationwide.“

China had to move to mass cremations without letting family near the body of infected, deceased family members. Early, they said the crematoriums were going 24/7.

Yep.

There was a heart wrenching video of a woman screaming because she couldn’t even say goodbye to her mother, iirc.

Well, San Diego did it. All restaurants to close for All but, takeout and delivery. Yes, we have to layoff.
I rarely take a paycheck (many self employed cannot). We're a very small biz with only 1 full time chef, other then hubby and me who work about 70 hours a week. Our other employees are part-time.
I immediately this morning contacted our payroll company to put me on payroll.
Why? Because, if we close, I can eventually collect unemployment.
It will be a small amount, but we've been paying into the unemployment fund for over 30 years. We've had maybe 2 layoffs in that time through the great recession.
So, our business has a healthy amount for unemployment benefits.
My hubby owns the biz, and I have been an unpaid employee.
This is legal. He has the right to pay me a salary.
It will be a pretty small amount. But, could help us finance a small RV if we need to leave.
This is ALL craziness.
I appreciate the early posters on this thread who made my antenna go up in the middle of February.
I paid attention, and I'm so glad I did.
Although I'm so stressed out that I have no appetite, I know that I have food for my doggers.
Honestly, the USA is going to have to release money to her citizens.***
Soon.
I do think that this will happen.
Sooner, versus later is best.
Bless and keep you and yours all well, on here. You have always been special and caring people.

It’s not as extensive as that. It’s like Italy and Spain. They can get groceries, gas, go to the pharmacy and walk the dog. But no outside walking for anything else.
I wonder why no walking outside though, as long as they keep their distance.

So sorry KALI. Hugs to you. I am not good at expressing thoughts.

That's likely because the VA is very busy testing and providing care to Veterans who have contracted the virus because that is supposed to be the agency's priority. The news media needs to stick to objectively reporting this crisis as it unfolds rather than trying to politicize it.

VA Reports 1st Veteran Death from Coronavirus

The VA is currently tracking five more confirmed coronavirus cases, four in the Western United States and one in Maine, as well as 25 presumptive positive cases around the country. Officials said in a release that they have administered "more than 100" COVID-19 tests to date.

Three of the confirmed cases are in VA inpatient care, as are 12 of the presumptive positives. The remainder are observing self-quarantine at home.

I think at this point just take 1 day at a time. Honestly, if I have a heart condition and need treatment, I'll risk getting the virus. I might die from either one. There are only 2 cases in my state.

I already went to the hospital last week and sat in the lab for hours and then had 4 separate doctors appointments. I hope I'm good for a while. BUT if I have to go to the hospital it's in areas with coronavirus. It's currently in my county and the counties all around me.
