.Coronavirus: Criminal trials lasting longer than three days to be suspended because of COVID-19 spread

Criminal trials which are due to last longer than three days will be put on hold due to the spread of coronavirus.

The move by the Lord Chief Justice Lord Burnett - the most senior judge in England and Wales - affects those cases which were set to start before the end of April. They will now be postponed.

Any current trials will continue in the hope they can be completed.

The government has been under pressure to outline its strategy for the legal system, following concerns about how COVID-19, the disease caused by coronavirus, could spread and affect court business.

The decision means no new trial should start in any crown court apart from those set to take three days or fewer.

Criminal trials pose "particular problems in a fast-moving situation" because of the involvement of many participants including the judge, jurors, defendants, lawyers, witnesses and court staff, according to a statement, announcing the delay.

It read: "Given the risks of a trial not being able to complete, the Lord Chief Justice has decided that no new trial should start in the Crown Court unless it is expected to last for three days or less.

Kids Must Watch: Importance of washing hands amid Coronavirus

A woman in Ireland demonstrated a helpful way to explain the importance of washing your hands to kids by doing an experiment that shows how quickly black pepper particles acting as a virus coronavirus move away as soon as the child has soap on his hands.

For parents at home looking for a simple way of explaining the importance of handwashing to their kids AND to get their kids doing a little experiment that will not cause a huge mess at home

Ground some black pepper into a shallow dish of water to represent a virus.

Trump administration hits back after China kicks out US journalists amid coronavirus pandemic

China on Tuesday escalated its tit-for-tat propaganda war with the United States over who's to blame for the spread of the coronavirus by placing restrictive measures on several top media companies including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal, prompting strong opposition from the Trump administration.”

[...]

“In a statement, China claimed the new restrictions on U.S. reporters were a retaliation against the Trump administration for putting caps on the number of journalists from five Chinese state-run media outlets working in the United States last month.

A spokesperson from China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the U.S. of "purposely making things difficult" for Chinese reporters and subjecting them to "growing discrimination and politically-motivated oppression."”

I’m only sleeping four hours a night. I go to sleep fine but wake up and I’m wide awake.

The same...I was up from 2 am - 6 am this morning. My chest is so heavy with anxiety.

Watching the live update. 83 New confirmed cases in BC today. Basically doubling what we had. 5 new on the island, bringing the total to 12. They are also finally admitting that there are many other cases (like me) that do not qualify for testing at this time-- those numbers are NOT in the confirmed total of 83. They do not know how many.

That's good to know. I'm praying my mom gets hers, too.

I ordered groceries off Instacart and it’s not coming until next Tuesday. I’m running low.

I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one having trouble sleeping.

(wishing of course others could sleep, but nice to know I’m not alone).

My sons are grown; but your post reminded me of after 9/11, when they were the ages of your children. I didn't let them hear anything about it. I know that's different, but still...

Children only need limited info in this case. JMO

9/11 must have been heartbreaking to explain.

Kids will chatter and spread rumours at school so I felt it best to be honest but super calm so they can bat back any outlandish stories. They know mum and dad aren't panicking and that they needn't either. And that they must wash their hands a lot, Facetime grandma more, and calm the hell down with their loo roll usage!

Went to bed at my normal time of 10 PM last night but awoke at 4:30 AM this morning. Tried to sleep but couldn't. The humidity doesn't help, either.

THE LATEST: Coronavirus cases in CT jumps to 68
Posted 23 min ago

“Dr. Matthew Cartter said because the state is so far behind in testing, we have to multiply the 68 by 100 and operate like there are 6,800 cases and we're only in the infancy.”
