I don't have time to watch the video, but am assuming the hiring is still at low wage with poor benefits, if any. Why would someone work there and risk getting COVID 19, but have no health insurance coverage? They would end up homeless and bankrupt.
I do not work for Amazon, however I do work in a rapid deployment center warehouse for a national supply chain. The company I work for is taking drastic measures to ensure our health the best they can. I make a decent wage with great benefits. Today they just announced that we get a additional 80 hours of paid sick/personal time to take as need fit. Also , if we have kids at home that need daycare due to school closures we can stay home with no point/occurrence but no pay. I can honestly say I work for a amazing company. Also, they said if we do get sick they will pay us 100%of our pay until we get to go back to work. That being said....a lot of people are absent.. yet we are still working close to one another... it's a scary situation.

It is interesting, 6 weeks ago, Amazon employees were almost at a point of being laid off for lack of work, because there were no shipments coming in from Asia.

Today, they can't stop the madness. What a crazy world.

9/11 must have been heartbreaking to explain.

Kids will chatter and spread rumours at school so I felt it best to be honest but super calm so they can bat back any outlandish stories. They know mum and dad aren't panicking and that they needn't either. And that they must wash their hands a lot, Facetime grandma more, and calm the hell down with their loo roll usage!

In that way, this is very different from 9/11. We just shut the TV off. They did hear about it in school, and asked questions. As they grew up, they learned about it.

Different from what your children are going through. Prayers to you.

“The coronavirus continues to affect all aspects of life in Connecticut, where officials said Tuesday there were likely thousands of cases, far more than the dozens that have been confirmed by state and private labs.”

[...]

““We are in uncharted waters,” university President Thomas Katsouleas said in an email to students. “I appreciate everyone’s willingness to be flexible, resilient, and adaptable in light of events that are well beyond our control.””

9/11's impact on daily life changed the world forever, while this will be remembered and lives will be lost i don't think it compares to 9/11 just my opinion

If anyone finds this meme disrespectful, please PM me and I will delete. I am in no way making light of the state of the world right now, just thought some of us could use a laugh (no matter how brief).
It's spot on and I shared it earlier today with all our kids! They all know that when WWII started, my mom dropped out of college and took the train to Washington DC and got a job with the Navy dept. Our kids have also heard all the stories about food rationing and no sugar for my mom's coffee. That's how my parents met. LOL

SOUTH CAROLINA

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Passengers who returned to Charleston this morning after a cruise to the Bahamas were not screened for fever.

That news comes a day after Carnival Cruise Lines said the passengers would be screened.

When the ship left Charleston last Thursday, passengers had to fill out a questionnaire and have their temperature taken due to Coronavirus concerns.

“They did take our temperature, everybody passed, no problems," passenger David Johnson said. “The whole boat was fine. We had a great time.”

Then on Sunday, Carnival Cruise Lines said when the ship returned to Charleston, passengers again would have to be screened for fever before being allowed to leave.

It turns out no one’s temperature was taken.

We walked right off the boat,” passenger Mitch Kincaid said.

The City of Charleston has no authority over the ship. After learning it was coming back, city officials asked the state health department to establish and enforce the appropriate medical procedures before anyone leaves the ship.

However, Uber driver Joey Bussman, who picked up some passengers from the ship is concerned.

It’s not only that they’re dropping off people right in the heart of Charleston, there also are people on this cruise that are going out to other states where they’re flying or driving right now and you never know what’s going to happen,” Bussman said.

Wow. Australian prime minister just said he’s not closing schools. Yet there are new restrictions on visitors to aged care facilities including no visitors under 16 years except in special circumstances.

Trust me when I say that I am nervous as heck to say the least to go to work. We unload semi trucks and process the freight and supplies then reload onto another truck. Currently we unload about 75 trucks in a 10 hour shift from all over the country and China. Then we ship it all over the country to the stores. Its nerve wracking to say the least. But someone has to ensure the stores have the product. If it were any other company I would probably not be there...however I strongly agree with the values of the company I work for.

I personally think the statistics for the virus will never be realistic. As @Hatfield has said, there will be so many people that never get tested; and so many people will not want to be labeled. If they are not "at risk", they may not get tested. If they don't have symptoms, they may never get tested. If they get symptoms, but are mild, they may never get tested. This crisis will be ever-lasting in the effects that it will have on the economy and the financial status of so many people. I am not saying that loss of life should be minimized, but I don't know if we will ever truly understand the statistics of a virus like this.

Japan too. I recall two young boys I posted about in the early days.

There have also been babies posted.

There have been a few others, moo.

2 year old child in a daycare connected to a large oil company in Alberta tested positive for the virus a week ago. She and parents had just returned from Florida. All children in the daycare and their parents went into isolation.
