I need to go back and look, but didn't I read that they were closing the Volusia County (FL) beaches?? Now I'm seeing that the beaches are open, but groups are limited to 10 or less, 6 ft rule, etc. (good luck with that)

And literally on the same day...2 hours ago they already had 88 people having to be rescued from the ocean (bad rip currents on top of everything else).

NYC

Nineteen people who attended a psychotherapy conference in New York City this month have tested positive for coronavirus and dozens more are in self-quarantine, according to the conference organizers, the American Group Psychotherapy Association.

The event, AGPA Connect 2020, was held at a Sheraton in Midtown Manhattan from March 2 to 7, and drew about 1,100 mental health professionals from around the world, according to Diane Feirman, an association spokeswoman.

The Americans who tested positive were from California, Idaho, Massachusetts, Nebraska, Texas, Washington State and the District of Columbia. Five of the 19 were from other countries, including Canada, Iceland and Singapore, Ms. Feirman said.

Oh my. Please tell me that the physicians haven't had a conference recently.

I’m only sleeping four hours a night. I go to sleep fine but wake up and I’m wide awake.
Ditto! Almost 2 weeks of really poor sleep

THIS IS PRETTY BLUNT:

One of my favorite stores that I order from and pay their outrageous shipping charge is closing their stores until the end of the month. I never go in the store but the local mall is having closure after closure.

Oh No, don't send 'em here, we got enough bad
cooties floatin' around.
Stay Home, Stay Safe

Many will leave, the ones that can afford to and/or have family. I know I would. New York is a HOT spot. Add the mass confusion, stores closed and millions of people, locked down in high rise apartments. OMG not me, I've got to have earth, birds singing on a daily basis.

Moo...

Flattening the curve, is the current approach to slow the COVID-19. Many immunologists have already said we're beyond containment, and that no matter what we do, 40 - 70% of us will get the virus. A vaccine will not be available. It is a matter of when we choose to get it. Flattening the curve will save some lives as the medical field will be better able to address needs.

How long will this shutdown last?

Weeks? No.
Month? Maybe.
Longer? Maybe.

Economic cost: trillion$. We will be in an economic recession shortly.

Coronavirus Is Hiding in Plain Sight

Scientists tracking the spread of the coronavirus reported on Monday that, for every confirmed case, there are most likely another five to 10 people in the community with undetected infections. These often-milder cases are, on average, about half as infectious as confirmed ones, but are responsible for nearly 80 percent of new cases, according to the report, which was based on data from China.

So with that many undetected and mild cases, and mostly uncounted, it is safe to say that the death rate for COVID-19 will be less than 1%. Much less IMO.

At some point really quickly, we're going to have to start thinking about the tradeoffs.

Along with the economic effect, there are health and societal risks with prolonged recessions. There is a huge and far reaching human cost.

Very difficult decisions have been made, but the cat is out of the bag. It ain't going back in. The more people learn about the actual deadliness of this virus to their own well-being, the more people will question the containment policies, IMO. "So, wait. I'm 35 and in good health, and COVID-19 affects me only as much as the flu does? And I'm out of work and can't pay my bills?" Refer to grocery stores if guidance is needed on human self-interest at the expense of others.

I'm not questioning the government's response, but in the next few weeks, keep an eye out for those that step out of line to go on the record and say "what are we doing here?"

Their decision may be safer for you and many others. The jeans have to go through packing, sorting, mailing sorting again and then mail carriers having to get it to your house... thats a lot of hands transferring what could possibly be COVID - to you and to each other.

Mall of America closes. 10,000 employees.

10,000 employees work at a mall!!!! That is beyond my comprehension. I do feel for the employees. Some of the merchants will not recover from all these closings.

My biggest pet peeve right now is that there is no hand sanitizer. It's been six weeks! I know they have to address the medical shortages first but six weeks?! I can't even find the 99% alcohol, but I did get lucky and find aloe vera gel.
