Good heavens! Maybe I’m just dense but why in the heck would anyone falsely identify as testing positive??! I hope it doesn’t happen but I understand and appreciate the probability of someone keeping a positive test hidden, but I’m missing the rationale behind the other way around.
Good luck to him if he does catch it. No one is going to take him seriously now. Until he gets a toe tag.
MOO.

The incidences of Covid-19 are to increase in the United States quite dramatically in upcoming days and weeks due to extensive testing. Further, death rate expected to go down as a result.

Dayton VA coronavirus case tied to assisted living center; more than a dozen tested
[...]

Clark County Combined Health District Commissioner Charles Patterson and Miami County Health Commissioner Dennis Propes spoke at a Wednesday evening press conference to announce the cases.

“Understand that this is a trying time and its definitely an unprecedented time in our history,” Patterson said of the COVID-19 crisis.

The woman is presumed positive but still awaiting official confirmation, Propes said.

Both residents are hospitalized, one at the VA and one at Upper Valley Medical Center. No conditions were available.

“Koester Pavilion did absolutely everything they were supposed to do following those orders … its’ just a community spread incident. We can’t give you any details when and where it started because we don’t have enough information yet,” Propes said.

Patterson added the counties “have already been in contact with individuals, we’ve placed them under quarantine to make sure that these case contacts aren’t in turn able to spread it to additional folks out there.”

OREGON

Oregon coronavirus cases surge, bringing state tally to 68
Oregon state and county health officials on Tuesday reported a profusion of new cases of the novel coronavirus and the second death in Oregon with a known link to the disease.

The 60-year-old woman died March 14 at a Lane County hospital, but it wasn’t until late Tuesday that tests confirmed she had contracted COVID-19, county officials said.

[...]

There are now known coronavirus cases in 14 of Oregon’s 36 counties: 22 in Washington County; 15 in Linn County; six each in Clackamas and Deschutes counties; four in Marion County; three in Multnomah County; two each in Benton, Jackson, Lane and Umatilla counties, and; one each in Douglas, Klamath, Polk and Yamhill counties.

State health experts have said they expected the number of reported cases to increase as testing capacity expands throughout Oregon and as the virus continues to spread rapidly among people.

“Oregon’s health care providers and public health officials have prepared for a pandemic,” said Patrick Allen, director of the Oregon Health Authority. “We have a plan.”

And the beaches are full of partying spring breakers. :( I’m a (older) millennial and I’m angry. I can list at least 15 people I care about that are at-risk. I don’t understand why they aren’t shutting the beaches down yet.

I found this in the WAVE, local paper in Norfolk, the Pilot has a pay wall.

Norfolk-based USNS Comfort ‘floating hospital’ heading to New York City to give aid during outbreak

The Comfort would be used to treat patients with other medical needs and not those diagnosed with the coronavirus, the Navy emphasized.
I was happy when I saw that, but then I saw this from a later article.

“The Comfort is currently in for maintenance in Norfolk, so they are going to expedite the maintenance if they can and prepare it,” said Jonathan Hoffman, assistant Defense secretary for public affairs.

Navy hospital ship won't be ready to help New York for weeks, Pentagon says

In Chinese cities, each block has a committee and leader that keeps charge of that area and works for the communist party. It is their job to report anything they determine is wrong-doing to the authorities. They also can organize a city block to keep people out. So social control in Chinese cities - same in rural communities - is a way of life since Chairman Mao - and everyone is used to it and it is highly organized.

Edited to correct typo

Do you hope and plan to go back to Beijing at some point when this blows over? Iirc you were over there before all this.

Death rate expected to go down? Is the idea that more testing means more people will receive health care all at the same time so the more people will survive?

Almost all our family members are in Clark County. We're 3 miles outside the county line. My temp is up to 100.6 today and still feels like a cold. No shortness of breath. Haven't been able to snuggle up with my husband for 6 days. Every morning I make the bed and put the pillows to the very edge but the next morning they're against each other again.

Yes, it was on last weekend so I got to see it again. I will NEVER eat chicken again, nor can I look at it in the grocer case, I’d be violently ill.
has anyone watched the netflix series pandemic? it is giving me chills. they KNEW it was coming, not if but when. Theres a part where the main guy says "no one knows where the next pandemic will start but we should keep close eyes on certain places, like china..." its actually eerily chilling. it feels so surreal right now. i cant quite believe whats even happening in the world... and they say this is the calm before the storm... :(

stay safe everyone.
