What good does it do for us to stay home and self isolate if children attend day care? It seems an almost breeding ground for coronavirus to me. Kids just naturally put things in their mouths, then touch and play with the other children. Then they go home and pass it on to their parents and siblings. Parents go to work and pass it on and on and on and on...........................................

I understand what you are saying I am always thinking of the 10% of an article that we are allowed to post here. I should have posted more imperative info.

Childcare needed for nurses, first responders, doctors, health-care employees, etc. Here is some more info from the link. There is more info in the article related to this that I did not post

""Some day care centers have voluntarily closed. But Murphy has not ordered all to do so. And he and the corporations that run the centers that stay open have faced criticism for not taking the same precaution with day care.

Murphy says he hasn’t shuttered them because some essential workers — such as first responders and health-care employees — need help caring for their children.

“We must ensure a continuity of child care for our frontline public health and response workers,” he said Monday.

Still, a few day care workers told NJ Advance Media the majority of the parents still using their centers do not work in essential fields.

This situation became more dire after officials announced Monday that a 5-year-old New Jersey boy had tested positive for coronavirus along with his parents. It was the youngest case reported in the state.

“Childcare providers who are able to serve critical needs at this critical time are doing very important work," state Human Services Commissioner Carole Johnson said. "We are grateful to them everyday for the work they do, but never more than during this challenging time.”

Day cares are staying open, will get additional state support, Murphy says

Thank you, but I don't mod, I have enough stress in my life, my job is to keep the forums organized and clean, but to tell you the truth, I have been very consumed with what has been going on with coronavirus since mid-January (when my daughter flew home from southeast Asia) that I have neglected posting new cases, have no idea what is going on with other missing persons cases I've been following, I feel awful.

On that note, I haven't been around the past day or so because so many things have been happening at work.

First, I dropped my phone in a puddle yesterday morning getting out of the car coming into work, after I retraced my steps I found it. As such, a new phone will be coming on Saturday. So I'm phoneless during this crisis with both my daughters living out of state in New York and Florida. Luckily, they are sheltering in place and working from home, my daughter sent me a picture of her on the streets of New York City wearing a hat, surgical gloves, and an N95 mask. I love them.

As far as my (real) job is concerned, all work has just about stopped. Managers have left to keep the amount of people low in the office. Some support staff are left, others took work home and we are going to a skeleton crew. My company has decided to shut down for 2 weeks starting tomorrow. They just advised us to come in yesterday and today to wrap up everything we are working on. They are offering to pay us a full salary for the next 2 weeks. After that they will re-evaluate and if the situation is the same or worse, we will all have to file for unemployment.

Yesterday, I was told that a manager's daughter's boyfriend has the virus, the daughter has symptoms, and the manager was in contact with both. Did he self-isolate? NO! He walked into the office yesterday, freaked everyone out to the point where HR had to tell him to go home. He had been in my office, touching my files, he was all over everything the last 3 days. He was not happy, screaming how he shouldn't be forced to go home, he does not have any symptoms, this is all overblown by the media ... yada, yada, yada. How many other people are walking around thinking the same? Makes me shudder.

I've never had 2 weeks off in a row (even for a vacation). My husband is disabled and more of a homebody, so I don't have to worry about him. The two of us have decided we are going to take a ride to the beach each day, bring the dog, and take a walk, just to get out of the house until isolation is mandatory. We thought that would be good to do, no worries about running into other people at this time of year.

I just feel so defeated. I cry every day, angry that no one in governmental authority, or friends, family, my boss, took this seriously. I feel so bad, tried to warn people 2 months ago.

I also cry whenever I hear about the "old people". I want to donate my time and even my own money to help whoever is out there, alone, scared, and/or unable to leave home - to help them in whatever way I can. Does anyone know of any place I can reach out to? Sometimes, I thank God that my parents have since passed, I don't have to worry about their health or whether or not they have eaten, if they have enough food. Geez, I'm crying again.

In the meantime, for the next 2 weeks or so, I'll be in and out here. I have no clue what went on yesterday in the world, other than a possible $1,000 each from the government, taxes are delayed 90 days, and that they were threatening to shut down NYC and Hoboken, NJ.

Sorry for rambling, but thanks for letting me "talk" it out here.

P.S. I just saw an email from work, sent at 11:45pm LAST NIGHT that a tenant on the 20th-floor of 225 Liberty in NYC (our NY office in the Freedom Tower) has been confirmed with coronovirus and that NO ONE from our office is to report to work today until further notice.

Take care everyone.

hang in there @JerseyGirl. I’ll keep you in my prayers.

I have a question and it sounds crazy. There are no reported cases of COVID in my city. I phoned an a prescription refill to Walmart this morning, not because I need it now but because I figured it is safer to pick up before we have the virus locally. Got a text that it is now ready for pick up. So, my question is, should I go in to pick it up tomorrow morning at 9 when the pharmacy opens or this evening? It is 4:13 p.m. here. Sorry for asking ; I am just not thinking logically on my own.
Opinion - Go in the morning. You may also find some store items at that time of the morning that you need or want..............moo

Doctors tell patients to delay cancer treatment in case they catch coronavirus in hospital

Doctors have been told by NHS England to prepare for a ‘disruption of services’ in cancer units over the next few weeks due to staff sickness and shortages of drugs and equipment. They have been advised to group their patients into ‘priority levels’ according to how crucial or effective the treatment is likely to be.

Anyone whose chemotherapy or radiotherapy is expected to save their life – rather than just extend it or reduce symptoms – should be a priority one or two. Patients needing emergency surgery will also be in these top two categories.

But those whose chemotherapy or radiotherapy is being used to extend their lives or just reduce symptoms should be put in a priority level of four to six. Patients needing surgery but who can wait ten to 12 weeks with ‘no predicted negative outcome’ should be priority three.

They are below the emergency surgery cases but above those whose chemotherapy or radiotherapy is only extending their lives.

I feel so sorry for all the patients who are affected by this.

If possible, go through the drive thru. If not, I agree with morning. Also if possible wear gloves for opening doors or signing something, or punching buttons....

It's very likely that your city has cases but there has not been any testing done to locate them.

It really is crazy, people all at the beach in Florida, while here they shut down schools/colleges, business, sports that never shut down. Maybe they should watch the 1918 documentary that was posted in topic #19 and get a dose of reality. The experts did the same things we are doing now, closing everything.
I watched that documentary last night. And what is sad, it was spread then by youth who had to go and fight in the Great War. Now it is being spread by youth who think it is their God given right to have a good time!

Thank you, my Friend. I can hardly believe my thought process is in the pits these days. Early a.m. trip to WMart tomorrow. I'll wrap my long scarf around my head and face. Won't offer much protection, but might provoke others to keep their distance.

Do now what can you can do now. Everyone who has the virus in their city knows that it's very likely that there has already been community transmission. Putting it off by a day might mean exposure.

Younger people in France and Italy are falling seriously ill from coronavirus, a worrying development that suggests young adults are more susceptible to becoming sick than earlier thought, a White House official said. For live updates: Coronavirus | Reuters Reuters on Twitter

Our school is shut down, all classes moved to online and we are all working at home until the first part of April at least. I went to the store this morning when they opened at 6:00 and there was a line to get in. No meat, no bread, no eggs, no TP. I was able to get fruit and frozen juice which is what I went there for in the first place. My mom told me last night that one of my brothers who is a disabled veteran went to their Kroger and there were two loaves of bread left. Another old man was looking at it too and commented only two loves left, and my brother said yes, one for you and one for me. I'm really proud of how my parents raised me as we all would have done the same thing. Some in my local neighborhood store would have grabbed both loaves and knocked me down to get out of the store.

BREAKING NEWS
"Data analyzed by the CDC show that younger Americans are at substantial risk of experiencing serious medical problems from the coronavirus. That data runs counter to some of the early messaging from health officials in other parts of the world."

Yes, because obesity, diabetes and high blood pressure are all risk factors. All three have increased among Americans under 30 over the last 20 years. Asthma has also increased (with New Mexico leading the states in this rise).

We also tend to over treat people with antibiotics and secondary infections are part of the profile of how CoVId19 strikes people down.

Still, no matter how the data is sliced and diced, this is not going to kill a lot of young people (flu is probably worse). But when it does hit a few compromised younger people, look for it to really hit SM and hence, the young. Will they stay home even then?

Someone posted above that American youth are getting it more than their European counterparts. I lived in Europe for quite some time and there is such a difference between the youth there and the youth here. These kids in the video don't even seem to realize their lives are going to change forever. These kids are drunk and irresponsible. One said in the video we are just living for the moment, yes you certainly are.

Thanks @Henry2326 . Appreciate your input. No drive thru there, but I have medical gloves and a stylus for punching buttons......and a long pashmina scarf to wrap around face. What a weird time we live in. BTW, I live in a +55 gated community. We are on lockdown.

Spain

A man who tested positive for coronavirus was reportedly arrested after walking in the street wearing a T-Rex dinosaur outfit to take his rubbish outside.

Footage of the man dressed as an enormous brown dinosaur was posted by Murcia Police who intercepted him in the street, while Spain is on lockdown as it battles to halt the spread of the coronavirus.

When I was in Costco yesterday, there was a guy behind me in checking out had two girls around nine years of age in the grocery cart. I figured he thought it was better to corral them that way than have to keep track of how close they were getting to people. Children that age can not legally be left alone at home or in the car, so what was he supposed to do with them otherwise? With restricted grocery store hours, it is making it even harder for couples to shop for their families, and I can't even guess how single parents are managing.

I agree. I went out today and the only people that got near me were children at the Dollar General. One rubbed against me. I thought to myself, how hard to explain this to little ones.

This illustrates what I was saying earlier, about the mistake of testing only those with obvious symptoms. VERY INFORMATIVE ARTICLE

"In a recent Medium post, Belgian researcher Andreas Backhaus explained how intensified and widespread testing in South Korea (with a focus on early test development and drive-through testing locations) turned up an unusual spike in cases among 20 to 29 year olds. The country’s aggressive testing and isolation strategies have slowed its epidemic and contributed to a preliminary country-wide mortality rate of less than 1 percent.

Italy, conversely, has primarily tested patients with apparent COVID-19 symptoms, and older Italians have been hit especially hard, leading to the world’s highest mortality rate at the moment."
------------------
Obviously, in Italy, this is because the younger group was not showing symptoms yet, thus not tested and infecting many. But testing only those exhibiting symptoms led to triaging. Just which old people were allowed to horribly die for lack of hospital services, while younger people got treated.

America Botched Coronavirus Testing. We're About to Find Out Just How Badly.
