This is why I'll take my chances and still give blood tomorrow. Car crashes, shootings, etc. still happen, threatening the lives of young and old alike. Blood is needed more than ever as those at higher risk need to self-isolate and can't donate. Red Cross is taking precautions.

CORONAVIRUS: Red Cross asks for blood donations
Thanks for the reminder! I’ve been meaning to make my appointment!

If you’re feeling hopeless and are able to donate blood, it’s a great way to give back amid the crisis! You can save up to 3 lives with a single donation! Of course, not everyone is able.

And the beaches are full of partying spring breakers. :( I’m a (older) millennial and I’m angry. I can list at least 15 people I care about that are at-risk. I don’t understand why they aren’t shutting the beaches down yet.
I wonder if there is a gentle way for the National Guard to take control of, or shut down the partying on beaches. I say this as someone who lived through the Kent State shootings in 1970. Like most young people then, I didn't consider the government my friend.

ARIZONA

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey said blood supplies in his state are at critical levels. "People are asking how they can help their communities. Here's what you can do. You can donate blood. You can donate blood. You can donate blood." Arizona governor pleads for blood donations during outbreak

Florida is going to explode in the next two weeks, based on the numbers. They have 328 "confirmed" cases of Coronavirus. Note the "quotes". Because, the hospital staff refused to test one man, because he had not been to China recently!

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/coronavirus/article241312156.html

The reason Florida is going to be the "hot spot" is due to the aged population, more than 200,000 in nursing homes or assisted living. And, the reckless irresponsibility of the people...we wouldn't want to cancel the Spring Break party!

Folks in Florida don't seem to be getting the message. I facecreeped a few of my snowbird friends to see if they had made it safely back into Canada, and was rather horrified to see that they were still in Florida. With airlines cancelling international flights, they will likely travel back north in the coming days, likely by car, driving all the way up through the states to the Canadian border. Will they be prepared to spend 2 weeks in complete isolation once they cross the border?

True. Also, take a look at the chart. 77.58% infected are under 60 years old. 27.84% infected are 20-something years old. They tested not only those showing symptoms but their contacts, young or old, symptomatic or asymptomatic, and isolated them. Stopped the spread early on.

South Korea: coronavirus cases by age 2020 | Statista

Age distribution of coronavirus in South Korea as of March 18, 2020
Below 10 years - 1.03%
10-19 years - 5.21%
20-29 years- 27.84%
30-39 years- 10.38%
40-49 years - 13.92%
50-59 years - 19.2%
60-69 years - 12.5%
70-79 years - 6.44%
Over 80 - 3.4%

That's sobering! Those in the 20-29 age group are triaged to the front of the line, so the mortality rate in that age group is lower.

They better be put in lock down. I don't trust the "stay home on your honor". Those snowbirds are the ones who will blow up Canada Coronavirus.

"...current state law says parents can face neglect charges for leaving children under the age of 14 "without supervision for an unreasonable period and without regard for the mental or physical health, safety, or welfare of that minor."

IMO, that^^^ does not say that children cannot stay home while parents carry out important tasks or errands.

It says you cannot leave then home for an 'unreasonable' amount of time and 'without regard' for their safety.

So I interpret that as saying that if you leave them for a short time, in a safe place, like a locked up home with a phone and with food and water, and a way to communicate with you in an emergency, it is not against the law. JMO
Imo common sense prevails. I do expect WMT stores to soon resemble Chuck E. Cheese, though. At least in my area. Until it is enforced people are going to bring their Corona carrying children to the stores for recreation since no other establishments are open, I think.

I know in the "big picture" this isn't important, but I have a sad young man in my house tonight as he just learned that his high school production of "The Wizard of Oz" has been cancelled. He had been cast as the Cowardly Lion.

This comes on the heels of his state competition being cancelled in which he had received 3 superiors at the district level and was to compete at states in all 3 areas: solo vocals, duet vocals, and duet acting.

He understands that other people are experiencing losses much more significant and he understands that the world is in turmoil, so he is keeping perspective, but in his personal world, this makes him sad. And as his mom, it makes me sad for him.
I totally understand and my heart goes out to him.

My 4 yr old grand daughter really misses her friends. And she misses her dance class and her play dates with her best neighbour friend. She really doesn't understand why she and Mommy are staying at home 24/7/. And why Daddy can't hug her and pick her top when right he gets home, but he has to shower first.

Her other grandma is in the hospital getting chemo treatments, so everyone in the family has to be super careful and be totally quarantined.

I talk to her on the phone and face time, but she asks me many of the same questions, repeatedly, about why she cannot go to hip-hop class tomorrow, or why I can't come over and play.

Her parents don't want to scare her but they still have to try and explain at her level. It is very hard to do. :(

Plus her mom is a teacher and is teaching online college English now---so my grand baby has to be quiet and let Mom work for part of the day---with very little other distractions. Thank goodness they have 2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 large tortoises to keep her busy.

CANADA

Over the past week we’ve started to see a sharp rise in #COVID19 cases in Canada and a number of provinces have reported cases with no links to travel.

#COVID19 cases with no links to travel are a signal that there is some degree of community spread occurring in the area(s) where cases are being found.

To find and stamp out community transmission, #PublicHealth authorities across Canada remain laser focused on detecting and interrupting any chains of transmission in the community.
#FlattenTheCurve

Over 50,000 people have been tested to date at provincial and national public health labs across Canada to identify #COVID19 cases, look for community spread, and quickly interrupt any chains of transmission to #SlowTheSpread.

In addition to public health actions, governments, community groups, event organisers, and businesses have banded together to #FlattentheCurve through #SocialDistancing actions.
