This brings back memories for me. When I was in high school (no computers, no cell phones, did not have cable tv), my friend Sarah and I would visit each day usually at my house. Sarah did not have a mom and she loved my mom (the mom that I hated at that time).
Even if we were fighting , we would still get together and sit in my bedroom for hours not talking to each other. We have been friends for many decades and she still is crazy about my mom as I am now.

Maybe that's how people will get through this, take three healthy families with young children and hunker down together between the three homes.

I didn't say they weren't taking heed, just mentioning that teachers, religious and otherwise, across the world are going online at this time.
Public schools fall under the jurisdiction of the governor/health department. Religious schools do not but in my state they have followed the same health department advisories including the ones to close schools. Some of my grandkids live in Ohio and their school district was taking proactive steps in February.

One of those in ICU is the very good friend of one of my friends/colleague/ teacher. He’s so distressed over the news he got this morning that his friend may not last long. :( His friend lives in Brooklyn.

And where does the buck stop? The party goers or FL governor?

On Tuesday FL Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered bars and nightclubs to close for 30 days and directed restaurants to cut their seating capacity by half. That same day he said that beaches could remain open but that groups of more than 10 people would not be allowed in one place.
The edict wasn’t enforced.

Now, with their campuses likely shuttered, most spring breakers will return to hometowns across the country where any exposure to coronavirus could set off a contagion, public-health experts warned.
Will spring breakers become super-spreaders?

Oh someone will undoubtedly have twins & use both, moo.
I met two Corona’s in my days, I’m not sure but think it might be popular, maybe Just not in the US.
Given the two choices, I think the name "Corona" will be more popular than Covid, but I think that would be cruel to the child. It's bad enough having a trendy or edgy name, but to be associated with a Pandemic. . . yikes. IMO

I did go out for the first time other than work which has been very minimal. Realized we had no Tylenol. I think the last time I or husband took any was maybe 2 years ago or more. Had my errand broken down in steps. Winter gloves, hand sanitizer etc. etc. Shoppers Drug Mart now has a Security Guard at the door. Asks you usual questions re: travel etc.

CANADA

Health minister @PattyHajdu says Canadians should brace themselves for a long haul of social distancing to combat #COVID19: "We will be in this situation for a while. This isn't about two weeks of social distancing. This is about months of social distancing.".

She says it's too early to tell if any efforts of social distancing are paying off so far, due to incubation period for the virus. It will be hard and difficult for many, but this is a necessary move, Minister Hajdu says.

@otto checking in for the party. Did you get your wine delivery yet?

Sure did! Washed with soap and water for the length of two happy birthday songs and then some. Should be good to go!

Even hurricane names which caused catastrophic damage and deaths are retired. Though I suppose that doesn’t stop those names from being used.

So strange to think about a simple errand becoming a real task. I break it down as to what I am touching and what I need to do. I even sanitized my bank card. Hope it still works lol

My son is in DC and I am worried sick. The people there are like in NYC, live on top of each other. It is beyond my comprehension but he loves it there. I prefer no one around me.

Since the rent is so outrageous there are group homes. You rent a bedroom and share the main living areas such as the kitchen, dining area and living room. Sounds like pure misery to me.

But, without widespread testing, it’s impossible to know the effectiveness of the severe measures the country has taken to avoid the spread of the virus. Beshear appeared frustrated at questions about increases in testing during Thursday’s press conference.

All right, so we’ve taken four questions on this wait,” Beshear said. “Folks, again, this one of those things where we have people on the front lines every single day working as hard as they can, and I have limited numbers of people and I’m not going to take them off the front lines just so they can collate some numbers,” he said.

Our Governor appears more agitated than any I’ve watched. He gets really pissed when questioned. As I posted earlier, he much prefers showing selfies Kentuckians submit.

NEW JERSEY

I urge those who have homes at the Jersey Shore to NOT go to them at this time.
The local infrastructure, especially the health care infrastructure, is not prepared for the influx of part-time residents. Please stay at your primary residences.

Drinking Tap Water NJ

As shoppers continue to clear shelves of bottled water, health officials and water providers are reminding the public that the risk of contracting coronavirus by using tap water is extremely low.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Environmental Protection Agency say conventional water treatment should remove coronavirus from municipal drinking water systems.

Coronavirus is particularly susceptible to disinfection and standard treatment, according to the EPA.

"As long as the treatment facilities work, I will be drinking tap water," said Dan Van Abs, a water supply expert at Rutgers University and a longtime member of the New Jersey Clean Water Council.

"I’d be more concerned about picking up coronavirus from handling bottled water cases that other people have handled at the store — apparently due to its longevity on hard surfaces — than I am about getting it through drinking water,” Van Abs said.

BOGOTA, March 20 (Reuters) - Colombia will enter a nationwide quarantine from Tuesday night, President Ivan Duque said late on Friday, the most drastic measure implemented so far by the South American country as it seeks to prevent the spread of the fast-moving coronavirus.

It has nothing to do with gov't orders. Schools around the world have been closed. Religious leaders have to choose what's best for their congregations, however, given that teachings are now online - makes sense that religious teachings should be online as well. Hopefully they're not waiting for the government to tell them what to do.
