INDIA

COMPLETE SHUTDOWN of India . Nobody in the world's biggest democracy will be allowed to leave home for the next three weeks, Modi said.
"Every district, every lane, every village will be under lockdown," he said. #COVID19

Reuters: Indians crowded grocery stores and chemists on Wednesday in a struggle for essential items after Prime Minister Narendra Modi ordered a total lockdown for three weeks to fight a coronavirus pandemic, one of the toughest such measures worldwide.

Reuters: India's tally of 536 cases and 10 deaths is dwarfed by China, Italy and Spain, but Modi and health experts have warned that the nation of 1.3 billion people faces a tidal wave of infections if harsh steps are not taken.

Reuters: As states shut their borders, long queues of trucks carrying milk, fruits and vegetables snaked down highways, even though Modi said essential services would be maintained countrywide.

Direct payments in stimulus package:

$1,200: individuals earning up to $75k

$2,400: Married couples earning up to $150k, additional $500 per child

Taken from CNN

Guess that answers the comment from another poster thinking unfair for folks on Social Security getting monies.

Easter is a very special event in my life due to my faith. As I thought about the significance of President Trump stating he hoped we would be able to reopen for business by Easter, he was also saying that it would be symbolic for our country to be reborn on Easter. His message wasn't lost on me, and gave me hope. I slept well last night.

Exactly. They had to be recalled because they were so bad.

And then the little tests we did get our hands on had to be sent to CDC which took a week or more for results, delaying the need to follow the spread.

Thank goodness Governor Cuomo then stepped in and requested that he have his testing performed in private labs around the state.

United Nations Channel - On 25 March, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will launch a COVID-19 Global Humanitarian Response Plan. The Secretary-General will be joined by the UN’s Under- Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock, WHO Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, and UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore. We anticipate making embargoed copies of the COVID-19 Global Humanitarian Response Plan available on Tuesday 24 March. UN-accredited journalists have the opportunity to submit questions to members of the panel in advance. These will be put to the panel during the launch event by the UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications Melissa Fleming.

I want to thank whoever posted the link about the red eyes. A friend who lives in Florida has 2 sons who were thought to have the flu, sinus infections and conjunctivitis are being tested for the virus. She hadn't heard about the conjunctivitis connection and I messaged her. They're on their way for testing, they meet the criteria. I wouldn't have known to pass that information to her without you.

I don’t think I got much sleep last night after waking up at 1am and learning about this “stimulus package”.

Oh no you all. Here we go.

Makeshift morgue appears outside NYC hospital as coronavirus spread escalates

A makeshift morgue has been set up outside a New York City hospital as the spread of the coronavirus is accelerating in the Big Apple.

As of Wednesday morning, New York City has 15,597 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 192 deaths, according to statistics from Johns Hopkins University. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned Tuesday that the number of cases “is doubling about every three days” statewide and that forecasters are now likening its spread to a “bullet train.”

The morgue assembled outside Manhattan’s Bellevue Hospital on Tuesday contained a series of white tents, two refrigerated trailers and an RV with the words “Mobile Command Center – Medical Examiner” emblazoned on it, the New York Post reported.

Thanks, she can't be in Florida yet as was only off the coast of Brazil a couple of days ago. I wonder if the blue markers on that map are the planned route and the red marker (which is hidden behind no8 and I can't zoom in) is current position.

Either way I think she's been on it since 5th March, on a 32 day cruise around South America from Chile to US. Not sure I would have boarded but I guess at that point she'd have lost all her money if she'd cancelled. Trip of a lifetime yet they've not been able to disembark and see anything, what a shame.
I thought Princess as well as other cruise lines had revised their cancellation policies due to Covid-19. A friend of mine was able to cancel 48 hours before the departure date, no refund but able to use money towards a future cruise before December 31, 2021. I can not imagine being on a cruise for 32 days prior to this - but that’s just my opinion.
Why is it coming to Fort Lauderdale if it didn’t originate or end there? What if it was a plane that was en route would they have told them to turn around or land somewhere else? Perhaps FLL is where it is registered?

I've got some more info. Apparently she boarded in Chile on 5th March for a 2 week cruise round the cape to Argentina, where she was supposed to have a few days on land then fly home. Except once they docked at Buenos Aires nobody was allowed off, and the new passengers (doing the onwards route up to Florida) weren't allowed on. So they've been told they all have to stay on board for at least 2 weeks to get back to the US as the other countries won't let them disembark even for onward flights. Nobody on board has the virus. If all goes to the current plan it will have been over a month by the time she gets home, assuming there are flights between the US and UK.

Phew, what a trek, minus all the interesting bits!

I woke up at 3 a.m. and saw the news, and I've been awake ever since. Will probably need a nap today. :)
