@LadyL , I'm so sorry to hear this! I think most hospitals are making exceptions for end-of-life care. It is awful that yours isn't.

As most of you know my Daughter is now 38 weeks. She is so sad and scared!

I really feel for your daughter and her husband (and you). In November 1970, almost 50 years ago my husband and I were the first at our small, rural hospital to be together in the delivery room. We and others in our Lamaze class campaigned to make this happen. But this was never the norm before, as we all know. Husbands traditionally paced nervously in the waiting room, where the doctor eventually came and gave them the news...girl or boy, mother and baby doing fine. I hate to see this become the norm again and I hope technology may come to the rescue so your daughter and her husband can be together through Skype or Zoom. Maybe they and other expectant parents can campaign to make this happen as we did back in the day. I wish all of you the best! :)

Ugh, that’s a big jump today for us. All those losses. All those devastated families...

Yesterday we took a drive out to the Bay. Sat and looked out at the water. Noted a fellow enter a porta john. Was in there for about ten min. Came out. No kind of hand wipe/sanitizer used. Took out his phone and scrolled thru. Lit up a smoke and got in his car :eek:

SPAIN AND ITALY

Update: Spain sees a surge in new cases (8578 over the past 24 hrs) while Italy's infection rate has slowed for 4 consecutive days. But the number of infected healthcare workers across Europe continues to rise: nearly 6,000 HCW infected in Spain; 37 Italian doctors have died.

I totally agree with this.

Why can't a partner or support person be tested and allowed to be present, with appropriate PPE?

PPE? What PPE?! Oh you mean the from the non-existant stash of PPE reserved for health care workers.

It's all just awful in so many ways.

that was my understanding too and the website does say one visitor is allowed but the head charge nurse said absolutely not
doctor said my Dad doesn't know who anyone is or where he is which is all the more reason to me to let him have one familiar presence while he's dying
and no one's around him except strangers in masks - he must be so scared
but on the other hand, if my dad does have Covid and my mom's miraculously not infected already, then obviously we don't want her to be

God help us. I have two children who are doctors. Once upon a time I was glad that they didn't decide to serve in the military. I thought that at least they'd be safe at home.
