The next door neighbor catered BBQ. He left a smoked Turkey open, in the back of his van. Doors wide open too.
German Shepherd in the neighborhood had quite a feast.
My neighbor was screwed! No way to smoke another one before the party.
Life lessons!
Lol
Moo
Lol, lessons indeed. Once a wiener dog grabbed an entire ham from my picnic table. It was funny at that time, but with the crisis we are under, it would not be humorous now. Also, my bread was the 1/2 loaf. I’ll enjoy my tuna salad on a bed of lettuce. Of course I scrub the heck out of my produce, I’m certain they have zero nutritional value. Filler food?

ALABAMA....IMO.....BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced Friday she is ordering the closure of all nonessential businesses in the state due to the coronavirus outbreak.

All nonessential businesses are being asked to close at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Ivey said they have broken their nonessential businesses into four categories:

  • Entertainment, athletic venues, nonessential “close contact” service establishments, and nonessential retail stores.
The businesses will remain closed through April 17.

Ivey went on to say that she will not be issuing a statewide shutdown.

As of Friday morning, Alabama has recorded 540 cases of coronavirus.

I’m trying to get a visual of a Maryland cowboy....
Just ran out to the store and noticed a new-ish (judging by their Facebook page, looks like they opened late October) country western clothing and apparel store, including cowboy boots--and they're open. All non-essential businesses are supposed to be closed here in Maryland (now if we were in Texas or something, it might make sense?!?) :confused:o_O

I just ask people to not post multi-page studies and transcripts. An interview with a doctor posted earlier froze my phone twice trying to scroll by. Post a summary and a link. We can click if we’re interested.
Another way to conserve screen space and scrolling time: "hide" the voluminous material under a spoiler link IMO

CALIFORNIA.....HOWARD FORMAN

#California is complicated thread:
CA apparently #TESTING at low rate AND not getting results quite so quickly.
State is TWICE the size of NYS, but only seem to have tested 10K yesterday (compared with NYS at 22K yesterday). 1/x

Their positive rate is 14.8% for results as of last evening.
They have 57,400 tests pending results (!!): This implies that as many as 8500 positive patients will be reported in the coming days, moving CA well ahead of NJ in the coming days, and just behind NYS. 2/x

This remains a problem if they continue to only test 10K per day. NJ is testing twice the per-capita rate as CA. NY is testing almost 4X the per capita rate. #Testing is ABSOLUTELY necessary to mitigate/suppress cases, make policy decisions. CA is NOT alone. More to follow. 3/x

I was reading about cases #5&6 in a tiny California county, because I have friends there, and was horrified to read (on page 2) that they are apparently being asked to test only those sick enough to need hospitalization. I don't know if this is new or has been California's approach all along, but -- ugh!

Websleuths does have a spoiler feature that can be used to "hide" long stretches of text. It's one of the dropdown options under the page-looking icon, bottom row, to the left of the "floppy disk" icon, at least that's where it is on my ipad screen.

Maybe folks posting super-long posts, timelines, transcriptions, etc, could use that?

Do we need condoms? I thought social distancing encompassed birth control. Notice the lack of online dating ads?
Condom shortage looms after lockdown shuts world’s top producer
''KUALA LUMPUR — A global shortage of condoms is looming, the world’s biggest producer said, after a coronavirus lockdown forced it to shut down production.

Malaysia’s Karex Bhd makes one in every five condoms globally. It has not produced a single condom from its three Malaysian factories in the past 10 days due to a lockdown imposed by the government to halt the spread of the virus.

That’s already a shortfall of 100 million condoms, normally marketed internationally by brands such as Durex, supplied to state healthcare systems such as Britain’s NHS or distributed by aid programs such as the UN Population Fund.''

“My concern is that for a lot of humanitarian programs deep down in Africa, the shortage will not just be two weeks or a month. That shortage can run into months.”

Yeah I saw that too. That was cool. :)

Another cool thing from the early days in Wuhan was a smart lady who rigged her toy car to go get buns from the store.

And “good news” makes people more vulnerable, imo.
GOV CUOMO

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo says rate of hospitalization in the state has slowed from doubling every 2.5 days to every four days.

Toronto man charged with sending fake COVID-19 test kits to U.S. - CityNews Toronto
Mar 27, 2020
''A Toronto man is under arrest for attempting to ship fake COVID-19 test kits into the United States.
Toronto Police say they received a tip from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security after a parcel was intercepted at the Canada-U.S. border on Wednesday.''

''A search warrant was executed on Thursday at a residence in the area of Cosburn and Pape avenues and a 43-year-old man was arrested.

Police say Jesse Wong is facing charges of fraud under $5,000 and possession of forgery device.

“Toronto Police would like to remind the public to be extra vigilant when it comes to those trying to sell or provide products or services associated to Covid-19. There are no legitimate ‘home test kits’ available,” police said in a statement.''

Oh, yes, if people have to stay home... they must have some occupation...

It was interesting, that German shoppers were mostly hoarding flour and toilet paper, the French wine and condoms, and others... let me find this link!

Another thing to add to my "Who Woulda Thought" List:

Who woulda thought that being a homebody/introvert would save lives. . . possibly even your own?

Since being allowed to work from home last week, it occurred to me that, even Pre-Covid, (with the exception of leaving my home in the morning for work and returning in the evening), I really don't get out all that much! So, in my case, the "stay home" orders haven't caused the same type of anxiety that others are having to deal with.
Keep in mind, I don't have kids or a significant other at the moment to add to my "worry about" list. That said, I have all sorts of anxiety, (most of the time) about many things that most people wouldn't think twice about. IMO

Behind the front lines of the fight against COVID-19 in Denver
Updated: Mar 26, 2020 / 10:41 PM MDT

video and more at link:

“DENVER (KDVR) -- Doctors inside the intensive care unit at Denver Health Medical Center are sharing their experiences treating COVID-19 patients.

The hospital's intensive care unit houses 24 patients, some of whom have the coronavirus and are fighting for their lives. As of Thursday afternoon, Colorado had at least 1,430 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 184 patients hospitalized because of it. Some of the most critical are at Denver Health.

"It's very sad to say, people I have right now are on a life support machine in the ICU," said Dr. Ivor Douglas, a pulmonary sciences and critical care expert who is also the intensive care director. "That wasn’t the pattern last week. Half of them were on life support. As a consequence, every single one of them has life-threatening organ failures."”
