I don’t think there are going to be a lot of permanent changes as far as industry goes, as eventually there will be a surplus of supplies, and the virus will subside.

Where I think the change will occur, will be in regards to world governments actually being prepared for a threat like this.

The next time something like this happens, everyone won’t be back on their heels.

It depends. If it's another 100 years for another pandemic, they will be as unprepared as us. What this has taught us is that we need to be prepared to be self-reliant. The US is not giving Canada anything, so the Canadian gov't is initiating and funding local manufacturing. I expect that if the window between production and need is big enough, Canada can provide for Canadians and have a surplus to share with other countries. In the future, other countries could look to Canada, rather than China, for medical supplies. In some ways, this is a perfect opportunity to shift the supply chain of some products.

Anyone know where do you go to buy Toilet Paper seeds ?.....moo

I don't know where to get seeds, but I am seriously eyeballing a head of healthy looking cabbage, wondering if I should eat it or repurpose it :D

Got an alert on cell phones in Illinois today saying we need any licensed medical staff that are available to come back to work if they can.

I had a post moved to a dedicated forum for PA. I was only one posting there. *shrugs shoulders*

ETA: I posted this before seeing SillyBilly’s post. I will let it stand and await direction.

Ditto with my Oregon post. I purposely didn’t start an Oregon thread because I didn’t want to feel responsible for maintaining it. I know of only three Oregonians here offhand. I liked knowing what’s going on in other areas and I assumed (incorrectly?) that my one of two Oregon news posts each day might be of interest to others and don’t clutter up the thread. It seems the posts could be posted here and just be duplicated on the “official” state threads for those who only want to read about their area.

And I am really going to miss seeing news right here from the current epicenter in NY/NJ. It helps prepare us for what may happen in our communities.

Every store should do this, imo. Someone I know that manages a clothing dept at our wmt sent me a photo of a mom & her daughter casually browsing the clothing/jewelry area. How is that isolation?
And to get around the one-2 item limit, bring as many people with you as you can, let them pay for their TP or meat, get 4 or 5 X the limit.
Our grocery store routes people through a cleaning station, where disinfectant spray and paper towels are provided, plus gloves. They also limit the number of people in the store to 15. It's a big enough store that there is no need for any two people to be within 6' of one another. The checkout clerks are shielded with plexiglass barriers.

Folks can't take in their own bags, and no one is scanning air miles cards. It's possible to touch only your own purchases. The store staff, however, shelve the items and handle them through the scanner. My groceries will stay in the garage until Thursday.

There is also a limit of 2 of any one item, so no one is hoarding. I noticed a calm in the store this morning. Everything was very clean. But even so, I won't be buying anything that is sliced, baked, or ground on site.

I received an email from a local grocery store here in SW Ontario Canada. You are questioned before entering. Employee will wipe down your basket and hand it to you. So I assume there not utilizing carts. Small staggered amt. of people let in at a time. Stand at your 6 ft. floor marker. Cashiers have the shields for their protection. So I gather it's get in for a few things of need and get the he77 out. Good.

Yes, a response of mine about quitting smoking got moved to a CA thread. But really, that’s useful information for the general thread. I don’t understand what is happening.

Social distancing. ;)

I was interested in it. I have clients in all 50 states, this was a great way to get bits and pieces of what's going on in the country without having to identify local news sources from areas I know nothing about. I like the smorgasbord of posts.

I
Seems to be a thing in Washington. Well, if the doctors want to leave Washington, it's my understanding that most states are accepting medical licenses from other states during this crisis. Seems like a typical (but dumb) thing for hospital administrators (known to be cousins of vampires) to do.
Its happening here too.

Well, I had posted some very important posts re: Instacart, Amazon, Whole Foods strikes.

The reason for this was to document problems in our national supply chains as far as logistics wrt food delivery, something above been talking about since day 1. This is something we all need to know! Looking for post. Maybe it’s in grocery tips idk.
If you find them let me know, I am interested!

When the smoke clears, there will be lawsuits.

Coronavirus Live Updates: Grim Models Project High U.S. Toll in Months-Long Crisis
The White House is expected to release models showing the future course of the disease, and the C.D.C. is reviewing its guidance on wearing masks as new data suggests many people with no symptoms are infecting others.

RIGHT NOW

A Russian doctor leading the fight against the virus tested positive days after meeting with President Vladimir V. Putin in Moscow.

Canada will need to improve its port infrastructure if it intends to export in large amounts to the rest of the world. Lots to think about. More truckers, more train cars, and possibly, more work on highway infrastructure too.

Please watch this..... My 14 year old adopted Grandson Tucker has Autism..... Robert Willard is Tucker's Junior High Home Room Life Skills teacher. All Special Needs kids go to First Period in Mr. Willard's Life Skills class( he waits outside the back door of the school to escort each Special Needs kid to class every morning). They gather there again at lunch time to go with Mr. Willard as a group to lunch. ( so no one has to sit alone because they are different ). They all go back to Mr. Willard's for the last period of the day and he make's sure each of them are picked up safely to go to their homes..........Let me tell you the little I know about Robert Willard. He is a US Army veteran. He is a Texas Longhorn football fan. He is a devoted husband to his wife who has been very sick for a long time with Sickle Cell Anemia. He not only is a full time teacher, he works part time at a Taco Bell to make extra money for his wife and himself........Since this Virus crisis stuff started Mr. Willard has called on the phone everyone of his Special Needs students at least once a week. He just made this video and has sent it to every one of his Special Needs students..... I am one tough but fair old beloved by my people SOB , but this is a better man than I will ever be..... May God Bless all the Mr. Willards out there..... To Hell with this Virus...... We are gonna beat this damn thing with good men like Mr. Willard taking care of our kids when we cannot be with them.....Yall stay safe and hang in there.....moo

Please see post @Tricia and @sillybilly

Exactly. I sure want to know how everybody is doing and talk about how this is affecting people personally, but the main purpose of this thread I thought was to discuss facts and information about the virus.

This virus doesn’t know borders.
We need to have a global and national perspective as we monitor our own areas.
What happens in one place can affect what happens in another place. Everything is connected. We have to learn from other countries and States. This is a global situation.

We have to learn from what is happening in NY and what Cuomo is doing wrt to hospital overflow, etc. so we can all learn for when it happens to us. These are collaborative efforts. There is value in learning and monitoring collectively what is happening in the nation and world as a whole.

What is the purpose of this current main thread now? I’m barely seeing any news or science links now...Is this a chat thread now? I can go to SM for that...I’m here for facts and information as it applies globally.

It seems to me the meat of the threads is disappearing.

It is difficult if not impossible to navigate around several different threads. I imagine it’s a lot of extra work for the mods too to relocate and filter so many posts.

I was here for facts, information, studies, reports from the beginning...now everything is all over the place. These threads have gone through the cheese grater overnight. It’s going to be hard to proceed if there is not some unity.

I’m disappointed now there seem to be minimal msm, etc?

We are all going to miss out on a lot of important msm and information now bc it’s scattered all over the place. I want to know what is happening everywhere.

I don’t have time to navigate and find 60 different threads or however many there are now.

We were doing just fine with the way the threads were before..what happened??
