I have been on unpaid furlough since last week, as well as quite a few other clinical and non-clinical employees at the company where I work. Our clinics are not able to perform COVID-19 testing, and we don’t have enough PPE to see sick patients. And we stopped seeing routine visits as well. So our clinics have either closed completely or have severely reduced hours.
Can you Now apply for UI? Was lay off welcomed by your peers? A lot of clinics in my area closed for the reasons you mentioned & to halt walk ins wanting Covid tests.
Yes, I already applied for unemployment but who knows how long it will take to receive payment?

I would say we didn’t welcome the lay off but we are glad that (supposedly) we will receive unemployment.

TheHill: Georgia governor says he didn't know asymptomatic people could spread
coronavirus.
Georgia governor says he didn't know asymptomatic people could spread coronavirus

Is this true? If so, why was this man left in the dark about this virus?

ETA: maybe he should join WS! Seriously, this is where I find a lot of valuable information!!

Ain't buying this!!! He has a Director of Health and many other advisors. In addition, daily conference call with the WH task force, the nightly news, and every TV and newspaper in GA.

As we say in the south....You'd have to be living under a rock not to know.

Shame...on you Governor....

Moo..

Where America Didn’t Stay Home Even as the Virus Spread
"Stay-at-home orders have nearly halted travel for most Americans, but people in Florida, the Southeast and other places that waited to enact such orders have continued to travel widely, potentially exposing more people as the coronavirus outbreak accelerates, according to an analysis of cellphone location data by The New York Times."

Have you been using extra or new cleaning chemicals? Is it ultra windy or dry air quality?

I have!! And I usually do not even use harsh chemicals. You might be on to something here.

Yes it is frightening! ND The highest cases in some counties are from travel with community spread in the lead. My son works through today in a bookstore etc.. business. Hope his boss will close up. Lots of people are after jobs at the place now! My senior mother in law still wants to fly home from AZ, a county with the highest cases in the state. (April 11). She will have to quarantine 14 days since out of state travelers were told to. She is planning a cab ride and online groceries. What and the heck is going on in her stubborn mind, senior rebel. We are having blizzard like weather until Friday morning. Her son and daughter in law have a beautiful, sunny back yard for her. She has a nice bedroom that overlooks rosebushes and the yard. Yet wants to leave, ugg!

Funerals without hugs
  • The Archdiocese of New York and the Archdiocese of Newark in New Jersey – in the country’s hardest-hit area – have canceled all funerals and now limit the number of graveside mourners to the state-mandated 10 people who must keep their distance as the priest offers a blessing at the grave. All services must be in the open air.
  • Cemeteries are setting rules for graveside behavior, with mourners kept at a distance until the burial is complete and cemetery workers leave.
  • With airline travel at a near standstill and mourners reluctant to travel, funeral homes are livestreaming funerals to connect far-flung mourners.
  • Funeral homes are using digital DocuSign to complete official documents, and handling arrangements over the phone or via email.
  • In funeral home chapels, chairs have been removed from rows of seats to keep mourners at a distance.
  • In many locales, the number of mourners has been set to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations: just immediate family of no more than 10 people at a time.

The group created rememberingalife.com as a resource. It includes COVID-19 updates.
Funerals during coronavirus pandemic: No hugs or big gatherings
It is not only those who have died from the virus, but also those who have been sick.

I have lost two friends from cancer in the last two weeks. It makes these sad times even sadder...especially for their partners...alone as they feel, you can’t even hug.

I wonder why it has to be referred to as an “order”. A deadly virus is in circulation. Why anyone has to be “ordered” to remain home is beyond me. If a shooter was loose in any given hood, most people would lockdown, how is this dif?

Its an Executive Order, same as all the other state.

We are being ordered to stay home under Emergency powers of the Governor.

I think they are sensationalizing the word "order".

Moo..?

Yes! I've heard the same from many over the years. It even happened to me. It was an intermittent sort of "tickle" cough that would come out of nowhere. Same thing: reflux. imo

My reflux cough, which took several years to diagnose, has gotten much worse lately. I think it's because my diet is terrible right now.

I am very impressed by Oregon Governor Kate Brown’s response to the coronavirus. On March 18 she ordered the Oregon national guard to set up a field hospital at the fairgrounds in the state capitol, Salem. She has been fighting to get PPEs, and to conserve them on March 18 she shut down anything but emergencies at clinics, dentists, vets, hospitals. She issued the stay at home order March 23. Group gatherings had been limited earlier and schools closed. I wish she had issued the stay at home order the previous Thursday or Friday. She had “requested” it but it was ignored by spring breakers flooding the coastal towns, resulting in her order on Monday 3/23. But I think her actions may have delayed our hospital surge peak until May 3.

@Alethea can the government force churches to close, or not? Our governor simply asked for compliance. I find conflicting info, and am eager for your professional opinion. Tysm

It depends on the wording of the Executive Order and the power of a governor under the State Code.

However, a State Director of Health can guarantee anyone and can authorize the use of law enforcement.

Moo... And Absolutely NOT a legal expert

Global coronavirus deaths topped 50,200 on Thursday as the pandemic ravages the United States and Europe, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Reported cases of the COVID-19 respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus were approaching 1 million with the most cases in the United States, followed by Italy and Spain.

Global coronavirus deaths top 50,000 - Johns Hopkins tally

It is absolutely devastating the number of men, women, teens and children who have all lost their lives. The number of people who are battling the virus all over the world is also alarming.

Everyone needs to follow government advice and #StayHomeSaveLives

I doubt that. I think there are a couple of other countries, including the one where it started, that have higher numbers, but are under reported. JMO

Yes. Like Iran, maybe. There the death toll is probably in the thousands. They’re digging mass graves.
The coronavirus has caused a full breakdown in Iran, with an unknown death toll, infected leaders, and massive burial pits visible from space

Just looking at how many of their politicians have it is an indication that it’s vastly higher than reported.
Iran Has Far More Coronavirus Cases Than It Is Letting On

But just our population being high means we will have higher deaths. Because we have more people.

The fact is we, like Italy, Spain, the UK and Iran, failed to get ahead of this thing in a timely manner. We could have. But did not. Japan and South Korea should’ve been our models.

This will cost us in so many ways. The peak is expected to be around May.
