The only thing we can learn from this is to always be on the safe side, whether it's seeing family, receiving groceries, going out for coffee - always err to caution.

What if the virus tests were so available, reliable and fast that food prep places could post daily results being virus free and they prepped a meal for delivery, and the delivery people also test virus free. That would be great!

Coronavirus - Michigan Data

Michigan Covid per county. It seems to remain mostly in the SE portion of the state. I fear what will happen if it spreads towards the western side towards Newaygo, Muskegon & Oceana areas. Plus the ferry to WI leaves out of Muskegon, I wonder if that has stopped.

@WildWest She worked in a family biz for most of her 12-18 years! I bought McDonald’s stock for her, that was a “fun” stock for her to follow. It really is quite simple, or was for us, it was “do you want 45 pair of designer jeans & 300 shoes or do you want money, later.”

As with every other epicentre, outbreak, cluster and spread, the virus will spread because people in the centre of the outbreak do not want to get sick, not realizing that they are already sick. Just like in Italy, they flee the outbreak. They are asymptomic for a couple of days, they travel to a place they think is safe and inadvertently spread the virus. It looks like the virus will overtake every state and hospital in the country.

I have a dystopian view, but there is no way to stop the mortality rate except through isolation, and the US has been almost belligerent when it comes to doing the only thing that is known to reduce the mortality rate - stop traveling, stop barhopping, go home and stay home. As Prime Minister Trudeau said "enough is enough!"

Here's some front-line reporting. I am nearly done paying off my giant student loans from law school. I consolidated them a few years ago into a private loan so none of the advertised government forbearance would apply.

I called the loan company today to ask what I would have to do if my business slowed down and I needed to reduce my payments temporarily. Without me even asking, they volunteered to skip my April payment and told me to call back in 30 days if I needed to request another "hold." They said if I wanted to pay anyway, I could always make an optional payment on the loan online at any time.

So if you know anyone struggling that has student loans, the lenders are being very accommodating. It is a good time to call and get ahead of it if you could better use that money for other essentials right now.

I believe the interest and penalties have been waived by order of the feds. I just within the month paid off my student loans, after 25 years of that burden. I paid via my tax refunds for many years. What started at about $20,000.00 ended up being over $80, 000.00. They are ruthless with outrageous penalties and interest. ApparentIly there is some holdup with their taking my refunds, probably to get in another 600 in penalty charges. But yay for me. You are a lawyer so your student loans will really pay off through your life. For me, I think those loans are pushed our way and way too easy to get. There are several plans which can be tailored to your income at the time. Good luck, and remember some day it will be over. : )

Why do people who receive a SS check - enough to pay the bills - need a bonus check during a pandemic. They have enough money to cover expenses. It's people who are suddenly out of a paycheck that need the $1200 checks.
Because it's a stimulus check to stimulate the economy. Someone who in your opinion does not need the check will spend it on something that keeps the needy employed like a roof repair, new car tires, take out food, or give it to the grandchildren for their rent. Stimulus not salvation.

I think many of us will live (exist) in paranoia for quite awhile.
Getting groceries was never an enjoyable task for me, now it is sheer agony. I’ll refrain from going out for food or cocktails, I’d rather be home or with those known to me. I doubt I’ll book any vacations as the thought of a hotel scares the he77 out of me. Maybe after we accustom to isolation it gets easier?

Stimulating the economy when so many people have lost their jobs and are relying on 3-4 months of 1200$ checks to pay rent and food?

Is this about stimulating the economy, or providing everyone the opportunity to self-isolate and survive until there is a vaccine?

Lol, idk, but one dude sprayed some liquid on my house and vigorously wiped it with a towel, he had a thick island accent, I’m not exactly certain what he attempted to articulate, I only wanted them gone. Interestingly, they did not stop at the neighboring house.
You need a large 100-pound German Shepherd over the age of 5 to be with you constantly. Please!

SO... I'm really really glad I stocked the fridge and kept it stocked during this so that when it died today it died carrying a full load! We can't get a new one until Friday and of course they won't deliver it beyond the front porch. So that means somehow getting it to the kitchen ourselves and then an unplanned trip to the grocery store where I doubt we'll find enough to actually refill it.

ARGH!!!

/rant

I'm grateful we were able to easily replace it and it won't break the bank to start refilling it and the new fridge is super nice.

But still.

oh no! maybe someone can lend you a dolly? sanitized if course
or tip it onto a blanket then pull the blanket to the kitchen?

I wash frozen groceries on the porch wearing rubber cloves. I don't rinse. It's a very strange landscape today - gives insight into the scary nursery rhymes of days gone by.

Are the cheques for the hair dresser, manicurist and self-indulgent gifts?
It's probably more of a program to prevent the collapse of the economy than to stimulate growth in the economy. JMO.
