I am beginning to wonder if the dairies and farmers dumping their products were taking the easy and maybe cheaper way out. I hope the government sets up a surplus program so that food doesn't go to waste.
When I clicked on the word "forcing" in the post you replied to it took me to this article which says they were told to pour the milk away.

Coronavirus forces dairy farmers in Wisconsin to dump milk

I hope that isn't still happening.

No, that's not it.

Raw milk cannot be sold to the public in many places (no way will I have raw milk in a refrigerator with everything else). Farmers milk cows, but they do not process the milk.

The processing plants are shut down.

Raw Milk Questions and Answers

You'd have to be okay with those risks to use it. Anti-vaxxer types sometimes prefer it (good luck to them), but giving it to poorer people in need of food, who probably already live in crowded conditions, have less access to healthcare and when hospitals are already overwhelmed, would just add to this disaster.

Dairies and farmers feed and milk cows. They do not handle the very strict pasteurization process.

that's good news - did you happen to file a return for 2019? I haven't yet. Trying to figure out what the discrepancy could be.

I also received the stimulus payment in my bank account overnight, for both my husband and myself. I haven't filed for 2019 yet, but for our 2018 income tax we filed jointly and we received a small refund that was deposited electronically. That was the first time in many years that we received a refund, but they must have used our 2018 tax return to deposit electronically the stimulus payment.

77,000 furloughed Disney World workers could get FastPass to jobless benefits

About 77,000 Walt Disney World employees set to be furloughed next week could get a FastPass to Florida’s unemployment system, which has seen hundreds of thousands of other workers face lengthy delays in getting benefits.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday he’s considering a plan to add automatically the information of the Disney workers into the system, in anticipation of the large influx. He added that it wouldn’t mean those employees would jump to the front of the line, but by getting their information into the system, they’ll skip a key step that has frustrated other laid-off workers who’ve encountered system crashes and busy helplines.

Does anyone know of a good alternative to dish soap? I am almost out, and will try to get some on my desk online grocery order, but not even sure they will have it. I will look online for some possible substitutes, but wonder if anyone has some ideas.

Try lathering up your dishrag or sponge with bar soap. I make bar dish soap. I'm sure the composition will be different but it won't hurt to try.

I'm not the OP, but I just received my 2019 refund via direct deposit. I'm hoping that the unhelpful message I got from the site means the stimulus payment via direct deposit is "in the mail" LOL
Thanks - trying to figure out what is making it work and what isn't - I haven't had a refund via DD in 10 years, I did on the off chance there is some database that gets checked prior to generating the physical check - made an online payment using my bank/routing info online yesterday. No return filed for 2019 yet though. hmmm - but it's really good to hear some are getting the checks and are able to access and update their information - appreciate the WS community.

Also - used my homemade mask to go to store today at lunch - they are still counting the people limiting how many are shopping - meat is in short supply although there was more than the usual amount of lamb and turkey (maybe over bought for easter dinners that didn't happen?) - I picked up one package of hamburger, pork butt and a standing rib roast which was cheaper than sirloin - they cut it just for me :). Limited TP, hardly any cleaning supplies - and they are still limiting canned goods pasta etc. I can't remember if I posted this already in the Grocery tips or here - so apologize if it's a repeat.

Indiana, US

Our stimulus check hit today. I wonder if all the electronic deposits is what crashed the apps. Jmo

Instructions
  1. Heat water to boiling.
  2. Combine borax and grated bar soap in a medium bowl. Pour hot water over the mixture. ...
  3. Allow mixture to cool on the countertop for 6-8 hours, stirring occasionally. Dish soap will gel upon standing.
  4. Transfer to a squirt bottle, and add essential oils (if using). Shake well to combine.

I have borax on hand - can't remember why I bought it.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions for replacing dish soap. I now realize there are a lot of options, and I never thought of shampoo. I have those small shampoo bottles saved from hotels when traveling, and I can use those. I hadn't thought of shampoo. Also the suggestion to fill the sink with baking soda and hot water, and also to use those small bottles of gift hand soap - I got a few for Christmas, and will use those. Other suggestions also appreciated.

I did find a you tube video with a simple recipe to shred a bar of soap and stir into 1 gallon of hot water (microwaved) and let it set for 8 hours. I have several bars of soap so I can try that, also. You can add essential oils and 1 teaspoon of baking soda to this recipe, but I don't have essential oils and I am trying to ration use of my one box of baking soda, so I will just use the bar of soap and gallon of water. I will save what commercial dish soap that I have left to use for when I really need to cut the grease after cooking in slow cooker, etc. Also appreciated the suggestion that I water down the dish soap that I have. I hadn't thought of diluting it to make it last longer.

I am retired, on social security, which is direct deposited. I haven't gotten the payment yet. I filed a 1040 last two years, but did not get a refund, so did not give bank account number. Thinking that will delay my payment til the second round later this month. Although they have my bank account for social security checks.
It will be helpful. I am spending a lot more for supplies from Amazon, as well as caring for grandchildren.

Yes, and for good reasons. Would you drink raw milk? I'm truly curious (not just you, Tresir, but you are a smart person - surely you would not?)

I would not. DH did, as a child. It was a small family farm with two cows. All the kids tried to be first to get up, to get the cream that rose to the top. I don't think he could drink it now, after decades of pasteurized and homogenized milk.

We are still freshwater and saltwater fishing here in Texas, while maintaining "Social Distancing.".......moo
Fishing here in Ohio too with social distancing. I'm eyeing the creek about 20 feet from our house. Only problem is the bank is steep and narrow and it's too cold for an unexpected swim.

EXIT AND SO SAD, TOO BAD

This, after being a SS recipient for 8 years with direct deposit payment, and also paying taxes since 1963. Same address 20 years, my bank routing info sent in every year with return. It's the same old shyte from the government.

That’s great! Atleast you don’t have to worry about getting within 6 feet of a fish...:p:D

One of these days you’ll get one Cody.
