I am retired, on social security, which is direct deposited. I haven't gotten the payment yet. I filed a 1040 last two years, but did not get a refund, so did not give bank account number. Thinking that will delay my payment til the second round later this month. Although they have my bank account for social security checks.
It will be helpful. I am spending a lot more for supplies from Amazon, as well as caring for grandchildren.
Mnuchin got right up there at the presser 2 days ago and said "If you get SS and get your payment direct deposit you don't have to do a thing". only slightly paraphrased.

Asking for opinions. Most of our food supplies will last for at least a couple more weeks but a few essentials will run out in about a week. Should I go out this weekend or wait until next weekend? Will one week lessen the risk of exposure?

We are nowhere near China's level of shut down. They were actually shut down in their apartments, with food being brought to them. Anybody showing symptoms was removed from their apartment and put into quarantine somewhere. We still have people going to stores, etc. We don't remove people with symptoms from their homes, where they are able to infect their relatives with whom they supposed to be sheltering in place. Which is presumably why they managed to actually shut it down, and we are at over 500,000 cases.
I was referring to government shut downs and staying at home, which many people said would never happen.

People can't be forced out of their homes in the US, but they can be treated in hospitals or stay home based on what's recommended. Many people have had groceries delivered to them here without having to go to the stores at all, or stores are delivering curbside. Many stores are not open at all.

We can't expect things to be done the same way here as they are in China.

Imo

I have one more big grocery delivery that is set to arrive today. A 2 week haul. We are still in the thick of things here in Michigan although trends look good for a decline. I am really hoping that in 2 weeks we will keep improving enough for me to feel brave enough to go out with all of the precautions. A quick trip back and forth with mask, gloves, etc. So depending on your state, it is MOO that every week might be less virus running wild and thus less change of exposure. I do feel that it will be a LONG time before we go out without any fear.....MOO

77,000 furloughed Disney World workers could get FastPass to jobless benefits

About 77,000 Walt Disney World employees set to be furloughed next week could get a FastPass to Florida’s unemployment system, which has seen hundreds of thousands of other workers face lengthy delays in getting benefits.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday he’s considering a plan to add automatically the information of the Disney workers into the system, in anticipation of the large influx. He added that it wouldn’t mean those employees would jump to the front of the line, but by getting their information into the system, they’ll skip a key step that has frustrated other laid-off workers who’ve encountered system crashes and busy helplines.

I am facing a similar dilemma, and have decided to order from Kroger click list and ordered a week ago and my pick up is scheduled for tomorrow. Not sure what will be included when I pick it up. Last time they were out of many of the items I ordered. But I read that Ohio is expected to peak on April 19th, so I am trying not to venture out for two more weeks. Tomorrow when I pick up groceries, I also have a quick stop at my pharmacy for drive-through to pick up a prescription.

I don't know when the optimal time will be. I think Governor DeWine and Dr. Action will have to make a decision soon about the end of the stay-at-home order which expires May 1st. I am hoping that their announcement on that and their reasons for whatever they decide to do next, will give me some information to help me make decisions on things.

Chicago jail becomes virus hotspot after giving 'insufficient' soap when bigger bars used for beatings

The COVID-19 Struggle In Chicago's Cook County Jail

ap_20101802449530-915e5afe09cc5456ef0968d72ecce59055885768-s1600-c85.jpg

Nurses and community faith leaders participate in a protest outside the Cook County Jail in Chicago, on April 10, 2020, calling for the release of prisoners from the jail.

A prison in Chicago that has become America's top coronavirus hotspot is providing inmates "insufficient" travel-size soap after they used normal bars to beat one another.

Chicago Cook County jail has recorded more than 350 corona virus infections  making it the largest known source of the disease in the country - ahead of the nursing home in Kirkland, Washington where the first death occurred.

well what were they supposed to do?

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions for replacing dish soap. I now realize there are a lot of options, and I never thought of shampoo. I have those small shampoo bottles saved from hotels when traveling, and I can use those. I hadn't thought of shampoo. Also the suggestion to fill the sink with baking soda and hot water, and also to use those small bottles of gift hand soap - I got a few for Christmas, and will use those. Other suggestions also appreciated.

I did find a you tube video with a simple recipe to shred a bar of soap and stir into 1 gallon of hot water (microwaved) and let it set for 8 hours. I have several bars of soap so I can try that, also. You can add essential oils and 1 teaspoon of baking soda to this recipe, but I don't have essential oils and I am trying to ration use of my one box of baking soda, so I will just use the bar of soap and gallon of water. I will save what commercial dish soap that I have left to use for when I really need to cut the grease after cooking in slow cooker, etc. Also appreciated the suggestion that I water down the dish soap that I have. I hadn't thought of diluting it to make it last longer.

For the record, this is true for a goodly number of items.

Maybe not for things that will eventually be used in the process of consumption <g>; but a good friend who is a cosmetologist, once told me one of the first things they learn in cosmetology school, is "don't get roped into believing the hype that "this bottle is only for this; this bottle is only for that." When you're at the gym and find you are out of product; you can rest assured that the free hand soap doesn't know it "shouldn't" be used on your hair. Soap is soap."

This dysfunction is only in comparison to the Unemployment system in Nevada. Four weeks, not a dime. There is a discharge issue on the claim, from a job over ten years ago. Not even relevant to this claim.

Called in, disconnected several times.

I signed up for Shipt recently, and got a local order slot within a day.

In the interests of full disclosure, the site is currently asking people to pay $99/year ($8.95/month) up front; but claims it's easy and quick to terminate your membership and get a refund if/when you decide no longer necessary. (I haven't tested the cancellation theory yet; obviously.) Everything showed up except the butter; I had indicated I would be happy with having it omitted if not available, and not to contact me about it asking about replacements; which are both options you could tweak (I wasn't firm on getting that exact brand of butter; but I was firm on getting other things in the order "as-is").

If nothing else this will teach people not to expect anything from government other than a tax bill.

It's a tough balance. Myself, I would say try to get them now, since supplies are in short supply in many areas, and may be even less available in a week. For me, the risk of exposure is a lesser concern, only because it's out there, everywhere, and I assume I'm always at risk if I haven't already gotten it.

All this said with the assumption that those going out will be careful about distancing and other precautions. Good luck, and be safe and well!

Both my account and my mom's show the deposit as of this morning, listed as pending. We are both in California, both very low income, using different banks. I still think it's possible the lower your most recent reported income (last year's tax filing if this year's not yet sent) the sooner the payment.

FYI for future reference. I always keep a large bottle of Dr Bronner's pure castile liquid soap on hand for emergencies. It's super concentrated and can be used for a multitude of things!

Those bottles last for YEARS...and make for interesting reading if the internet goes down :)
