I went to Costco here in So. Cal. Today. Walking in, there was a big grease board saying: Out Of...
Soap, sanitizer, papertowels, bleach, and a bunch of other stuff.

Of course, those items were on my shopping list. But, hey, they did have tolite paper, so, I got one!

Last time my husband went to Costco 1 month, it didn’t have liquid body soap but tons of Kirkland’s large box of bath bar soap. It’s cheap, shaped like Dove and has a great lather.

Coronavirus originated in bungled experiments at Wuhan lab, bombshell report claims | Daily Mail Online

Shocking Report Says Officials Believe Wuhan Virology Lab Was Source Of Virus

Claims Virus Was Isolated From Bat In Bungling Attempt To Upstage US Scientists

But Escaped After Lab Worker Became 'Patient Zero', Sources Tell Fox News

China Quickly Blamed The Wuhan 'Wet Market', Which Did Not Sell Bats

If True, The Disaster Could Go Down As Biggest Government Coverup Of All Time
This jibes with the Washington Post article yesterday that said the State Department has been concerned about risky experiments going on at that Wuhan lab in 2018.

Up until yesterday, the media was telling people that this was an insane conspiracy theory, and actually fact checking it and calling it false.

We still don’t know if it is in fact true, but that door appears to be open.

This is the most amazing timeline. I'm blown away. I know it's a rather subtle subtopic, but...wow. What is up here??

I am sitting here with my jaw on the floor. You wrote that very carefully, but the mere fact that you wrote it - well, IMO, you're a journalist of some sort - the higher sort, as it seems to me.

I feel you. I need another job (still downstream of 50), and at the worst of our recent decline my 401k had lost 37%. End of yesterday I was "only" down 21%, though, so there's something . I also had to go withdraw my Roth principal the other day for expenses, which was no fun. Hopefully the hemorrhaging stops soon :(.
I'm sorry that you had to withdraw some from your 401K. I hope you won't need to withdraw any more and let the remaining balance enjoy the big rally that is sure to follow. (I trust President Trump in that regard).

I remember losing 30% of our retirement account during the housing bubble crisis in 2008. It was very painful to watch the balance that continuously went down months after months, but DH did dollar-cost averaging by continuing to contribute toward stock funds. Buy low, Sell high. The market eventually went back up and then some.

I was also unaware of some of the downsides of ventilation when my father was placed on one. I hope you didn't blame yourself for anything that happened. We all do the best we can based on the information we have.

But I thought I knew the risks (but I only knew statistics). I guess I don't blame myself, exactly, and I'm certain that Dad did not. Everything could have been much worse. I just wish I'd spared him (and the special team that came in from a university - we didn't know they were going to do that, either). He didn't want to "linger" I should have known better.

At the same time, I know he's happy knowing that those young doctors got amazing practice on this fragile 99 year old man. I talked to them a bit afterward and let them know that I was so grateful to them and they said they were grateful too - they didn't get to do anesthesia on many cases like a 99 year old man.

BTW, my kids now know this and I can see a little fear in their eyes about the possibility of me being ventilated. Great conversation topic, right? I do not want to be ventilated - but I am not 99.

I don't know what to say about it.

Recipients of Coronavirus Stimulus Checks Include the Recently Deceased

Recipients of Coronavirus Stimulus Checks Include the Recently Deceased
I can't really blame the government for this. They had to get these checks out fast. If someone died after submitting their tax forms in 2019, their death certificate may not be on the records yet.

I'd rather they sent the checks out quickly and made a few errors, than held them back, while they double checked the death certificates. JMO

I don't want to be ventilated either and I have told my husband and kids, quite directly, that exact thing.

I am fine with basic resuscitation. Go ahead and try to restart my system. But I do not want to be on life support, NOR do I want to be on ventilation. I hope it doesn't come to that but one never knows for sure.

The stats are out there for COVID-19, just not all the stats. A favorite ploy is to show a map with the number of cases per country, which is of course infinitely useless since countries have different sizes and populations. Have been waiting for a world map of COVID cases per unit of population. Still waiting...

So I hacked my own map, using Coronavirus Update (Live): 2,083,236 Cases and 134,610 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer stats. Since confirmed CV cases are based on number of tests, and therefore not an indicator of much, I plotted deaths which are absolute. This map represents the number of deaths per 1 million population for all countries (no, I didn't have energy to find Moldova). It is kind of a heat scale with red = worst, with a crude legend inserted. Countries that have less than 10 deaths per million are white.

upload_2020-4-15_21-52-3.png

What obvious is that south of not just the Equator, but the Tropic of Cancer, where it is warmer- there are no countries with greater than 10 deaths per 1 million.
The highest rate is Spain at 402 per 1 million. The U.S. is at 86 and climbing, expected to end up around 206 for this outbreak (IHME).

So does coronavirus not handle warmth and humidity well? Typically viruses do not. On coronavirus, experts say they don't know or give an opinion sometimes led by bias (from what I've seen). Are there other explanations for low rates below the T of C, such as non-reporting, slow onset of spread, less population, lower degree of international travel, etc? On the other hand, the majority of these countries are not equipped to slow the spread of a pandemic, and there are cases all across the southern hemisphere.

I'm going with heat and humidity slows the spread of coronavirus, and heading to the beach. Of course, at an appropriate time and with recommended distancing.

And it gives hope that we can get a break and catch up on testing and healthcare supplies for the fall.

IRS's coronavirus stimulus check tracking tool is not working for some people

Editor’s note: This article has been updated with comment from the IRS.
...
... many are receiving messages that their payment status is not available.
...
In most cases, this happened because the system was overloaded, Luis Garcia, an IRS spokesperson, told CNBC Make It.

“What happened is instead of having an error message or a message saying the system is very busy, it just says your information isn’t in here, that was the default,” says Garcia. But that should be fixed now.
...
If you are eligible for a payment, but receive feedback that the IRS “needs more information,” then the agency does not have your direct deposit information on file, the agency’s FAQ says.

In that case, you will need to provide your bank account information, once you have verified your identity, to receive the check fastest, or wait for it to be mailed to you. You can use Get My Payment to update your direct deposit information if you did not use direct deposit on your last tax return to receive a refund, the IRS says. If your payment is pending or has been processed, you can no longer change your bank account information.
...
That tracking link worked perfectly for us., I checked it early this morning and it said ' your check has been deposited'.....sure enough....it came in this morning, straight into our checking account. :)

Tyson confirms 2 employees from Columbus Junction plant died due to COVID-19
Deaths of 2 workers at COVID-19 stricken S.E. Iowa meatpacking plant confirmed

Tyson workers say they work 'sick'; clinic seeing 'tons of COVID-19'

A person who teaches English to some Tyson workers said Tuesday those workers say employees from closed plants were being moved to Waterloo with no quarantine time in between.

A separate individual Wednesday said at least some positive cases in Black Hawk County were residents of Columbus Junction. Tyson’s Columbus Junction location has been closed for an outbreak since April 6.

Pompeo was sec of state in 2018, how can he now claim to be learning something new? The story in WaPo refers to the state dept warning the admin in 2018 that there were problems at the lab. Why did the admin continue to fund the lab? "According to documents obtained by The Mail on Sunday, scientists there experimented on bats as part of a project funded by the US National Institutes of Health, which continues to licence the Wuhan laboratory to receive American money for experiments.""

U.S. government gave $3.7million grant to Wuhan lab that experimented on coronavirus source bats | Daily Mail Online

"The NIH is the primary agency of the United States government responsible for biomedical and public health research.

The Wuhan Institute lists them on their website as a partner as well as several other American academic institutions.

Other U.S. partners include the University of Alabama, the University of North Texas, Harvard University, and the National Wildlife Federation."

We were SO LUCKY for a change.

My husband 'formally' retired from Disney TV/Animation in early February. At that time, they took our 401K OUT of the bond market and put it into a savings account, as we were transferring it to our own bank IRA.

LUCKILY, we did not get hit by the stock market drop , and we haven't put it back into the market yet.

Our son thinks we should put half back in because it's going to go up. My husband agrees but I am dragging my stubborn feet still.....but your post is a reminder that it will probably go up.

But we are nearing 70, and I don't want to take a big hit on our retirement savings, this late in the game.
