If doing it themselves, I doubt the results will be accurate. I understand you have to swab painfully deep to get an accurate result.
This may be the less invasive test.

They don't sweat embarrassment. They deal with it every day without much consequence.
This isn't about embarrassment....people are gonna die with this hair brain action.

Right. The graph shows that the US CFR is not even close to the highest. Which was my point.

What it shows is that in the last month, the CFR in the USA has risen from
March 27 : 1.5%
April 20 : 5.4%

The question is not about how the USA death rate compares to other countries that had earlier epidemics, but whether the mortality rate is increasing, at a plateau, or decreasing.

The case fatality rate (CFR) is steadily increasing.
What will it look like in a month?

My friend had it, although negative. She said she thought it was go through her eyeball....quite uncomfortable.

I wasn’t aware there was a less invasive test. I don’t understand how one test can only get results by cramming the swab halfway to your brain while there’s another test that only requires a tickle.

EDITED TO ADD... GEORGIA! HOPING THE Walking Dead can now resume filming and finish season 10's final episode! They had to stop filming because of Covit-19. Mostly filmed in Georgia.

Okay, I'm hopeful. All other governors will be closely watching Ohio. These citizens aren't babies. They deal with some extreme weather. I hope they take the precautions we've all learned.
hopeful they show us what to do. <modsnip: removed comment about journalistic integrity>

ah interesting, i guess we were lucky and your son was lucky because not long after he left we locked down ours

i dunno i thought i had read they had already done it, must have been they were thinking of doing it

i kinda wished they had done it sooner, but at least some areas are doing better this week, i spoke to a friend in Santa Clara and he said that area is doing alright

Border closures happened around March 18. My son flew home, $700 one-way with every second seat empty - unheard of in normal times. It normally costs $700 to fly across Canada. Guardian Angel

I think the USA closed borders to Mexico, China and maybe other countries. No idea really. I assumed it was like Canada and Australia, but perhaps some Commonwealth Countries have a different governance.

Right. I read that if it didn’t bring tears to your eyes, it wasn’t done right. So I’m very confused.

The World Health Organization chief warned Monday that “the worst is yet ahead of us” in the coronavirus outbreak, reviving the alarm just as many countries ease restrictive measures aimed at reducing its spread.

WHO chief warns the worst of the coronavirus is still ahead

This is worrisome. If Doc T says this...we know how carefully he chooses his words and thoughts.

I just finished the Colorado Governor’s briefing and Colorado will begin easing restrictions next week, April 27. Polis referenced some of his discussions with VP Pence. There are some aspects of the PC I may wish to comment on at a later time, specifically wrt to some of his comments about testing and some things which imo are contrary to recommendations made by the WHO, specifically re: the importance of and value in testing, identifying, isolating/quarantining.

Only time will tell what impact the easing of these restrictions may or may not have.

Today is April 20. Marking this to see where Colorado will be in a month on May 20. And through the month of June. I’m not expecting good things but hopefully I will be wrong.

Everyone is in between a rock and a hard place. People need to work and sustain themselves. I understand this. Of course there is the other side of this which I don’t think I need to explain.

I would like to catch up on all WHO conferences before commenting further, I am currently on April 10th’s conference.

I’m certainly not going to be the one to say that people can’t get back to work to pay their bills and feed their families. Not everyone has the opportunity to work from home.

At the same time, well you know...

Are our numbers and “curves” good enough to do this right now? (ETA: You guys take a look at the numbers and you tell me.)

I won’t be leaving for the house for at least another month minimum as I continue to monitor the situation.

Everything is Jmo as always.

Well, they're actually doing worse than us. We are currently averaging 128 Deaths Per Million, while Sweden is at 156. Spain is at 446, while Belgium is a staggering 503.
Sweden's averages really don't matter. What matters is perhaps by stay at home methods Sweden might have saved more lives.

The actors just may become the walking dead if they proceed now. I’m guessing they will be smarter than that.

The OP said the US had the highest incidence of death (as fact). That's what I was addressing. If the OP had said the US may (as opinion) have the highest CFR in a month, I wouldn't have commented.

Don't blame them one bit. They should have had a stockpile ready for this, or something else. Leaders jobs are #1. Protect the citizens you've been elected to lead.
Sure wish they'd get that through their inflated egos. Everywhere!

New York’s biggest nurses union sued the state Health Department and two hospitals — Montefiore Medical Center and Westchester Medical Center — on Monday for failing to protect their health and safety during the coronavirus pandemic.

The lawsuits point the finger for the failures at Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration and the two hospitals for failing to provide sufficient protective equipment, like masks and gowns.

“By compromising the health and safety of the nurses, the DOH and the two hospitals jeopardize patients, their families and the communities in which they live,” the New York State Nurses Association said in a statement accompanying the trio of torts.

NYSNA executive director Pat Kane said that more than 70 percent of her nurses reported being exposed to the dangerous disease and that most are still untested.

There's a new Canadian test with two throat swabs and results in 15 minutes. It is not available internationally at this time, and it made entirely in Canada.

Antibody tests are not approved in Canada for use with Covid-19.

That's funny. Are the actors all local, or is this encouraging travel?

That's why I said "roughly." I didn't know Sweden was doing that much better Spain and Belgium, though. That might be another reason people are praising Sweden -- assuming they are.

You listen to 640 kfi ? My favorite California station!

Ya know, I heard that the best thing that could have happened for the Bay Area, was the 49ers losing in the Super Bowl. The virus was spreading rapidly up there in mid-February, and it would have been like N.O. Mardi Gras in terms of spreading it, had there been celebrations and a parade.

Yes, it may have the highest CFR in a month. For now, 5.4% is not that bad. Italy, the second epicentre, spread throughout the EU before the USA was the third epicentre. Timelines are wrong when looking at Sweden and the USA today.

The only concern is the steady, daily increase in the USA, which is similar to the steady daily increase in many places that started earlier.
